    Model Y Small Back/Side Window Break-in

If I were someone that regularly breaks into Model 3s, I'd smash your rear window just to spite you.

    Help - I Totaled My Model S

Well thanks to all the "great" information here the insurance company upped the value of my total loss more than $10k. Enough so they are reassessing it as a total loss and may try to fix the car which likely has $40k worth of damage according to the body shop. Crap, I think I did too good of...

    Help - I Totaled My Model S

I cleaned out my car and talked to the body shop today and they were super helpful. I documented and sent receipts for everything including 6mo old tires, tint, paint protection film, etc. They also said I should be reimbursed for sales tax, registration and excise tax fees. I guess a...

    Help - I Totaled My Model S

So I totaled my 2016 Model S 75D a couple of weeks ago driving on an icy road. The road turned but the car didn't and I wound up hitting the end of a guard rail head on. Luckily, I was only going 20 mph and was completely unharmed, but it did set off 4 different airbags - driver's, both...

What's the difference between the Hot and cold defrost options?

In most cases you want to use the blue "defrost" - not because it saves energy but because in most cases (even in ICE) cars, you want to use the AC compressor while defrosting/defogging. Using AC removes the humidity from the air and dries off the inside of the windshield. Blue = Defogger =...

FS: New Gen II Signature Edition Wall Connector w/ 24ft Cable

It's the print of his signature on the signature edition. Maximum output of 80A although depending on your onboard car charger will likely only be able to take advantage of 48A - unless you had dual 40A chargers on an older model S.

FS: New Gen II Signature Edition Wall Connector w/ 24ft Cable

I decided not to install this referral reward as I have an existing Gen II connector...not as cool as the one w/ Elon's signature though. Sorry, I totally spaced out and forgot to post here first but it's available via auction at a good price (mods feel free to remove this if it violates forum...

    Custom Aero Covers

I'd dump the zipper and go with Velcro or 3M Dual-Lock type of fastener. It's symmetrical, easier on/off. less worry about tire balance and the fastener will be harder to see.

Bose wants to keep the sounds of the road out of your vehicle

Tesla seems to make non-car people take interest in cars. There is definitely some amazing new technology but people are also thinking that tech that's been around for decades is also new and amazing. It blows my mind that someone in a different thread was amazed that Tesla had side view...

Tesla Model 3 Performance vs BMW M3 - The Mic Drop

The drivetrain in an EV is less complex than in an ICE but the rest of the car is the same. Only a small fraction of ICE maintenance issues deal with the drivetrain as most are super reliable these days. With EVs you'll still have to deal with things like suspension bushings, shocks, window...

Idle fee because Tesla Service left the car plugged in

I got charged an idle fee at Dedham as well dated the DAY BEFORE I TOOK DELIVERY of my Model 3! I haven't bothered to get it waived because the last time I called, I was on hold for an hour. Come on now....

Tesla Model 3 Performance vs BMW M3 - The Mic Drop

How different are the P3D components to the base 3? Genuinely curious. I know the motors are the same but what about the suspension besides being lowered? I know that the wheel packages are available on both. The M3 actually doesn't have much at all in common with the 3 series except for...

Tesla Model 3 Performance vs BMW M3 - The Mic Drop

Brakes - M3 has the best brakes I've ever felt. Zero squish, super responsive and a hard bite without being overly sensitive. 60-0 in under 100 ft. The feel of the Model 3 brakes SUCK. Model S brakes have significantly better feel than the Model 3. Grip - M3 has 1g of lateral acceleration...

Tesla Model 3 Performance vs BMW M3 - The Mic Drop

I have both a Model 3 (albeit a non P) and an M3 (older version). It's been a long time but I used to track my M3 regularly and I will share my thoughts. An M3 is still an enthusiasts car when compared to a Model 3. Sure the Tesla is a fantastic car and I would much prefer to drive that on my...

Tesla Model 3 Performance vs BMW M3 - The Mic Drop

Well I like to brag how my Teslas are one of the few vehicles that can run on beautiful black American coal ;).

Tesla Model 3 Performance vs BMW M3 - The Mic Drop

Let's be realistic with regards to range. With my BMW M3, I get about 15-20% higher mileage above the EPA rated mileage on the highway - and that's driving at 80+mph. This is consistent with at least my generation of M3 (E46). When I'm in any one of my Teslas, I haven't come close to rated...

What is it with all these rear-end accidents? Here's my footage.

3 months for parts. $14k total damage. Luckily it was drivable so I was only without the car for about 2 weeks. In fact, I ordered and had my Model 3 delivered in less time than it took to repair my S.

Do you prefer Creep On or Off?

With creep on, you can't fully stop without using the brake. With creep off, you can coast to a stop after regen finishes without touching the brake.

    Elon Musk

There is a proposed SEC settlement which has not been approved by the courts yet. That has to do with a civil infraction. The DOJ still has the option to pursue criminal charges which the has nothing to do with the SEC settlement.

    Unintended/Over Acceleration Event

Anyone have any idea on how long it might take for Tesla to pull logs and get back with customers for escalated issues?
  27. H

    Unintended/Over Acceleration Event

Perhaps...but from my recollection, the vehicle stopped accelerating the first time I let go of the accelerator pedal and then the same thing happened again the second time I pressed the accelerator. Hopefully Tesla will get back with me and tell me if ACC was activated by accident.

Leaving key card in the car...

Maybe just give your valet one of the card keys to keep.
  29. H

    Unintended/Over Acceleration Event

I switch between my Model S and Model 3 quite a bit (both non P) and the throttle mapping isn't that much different - although the 3 slows much faster with regen (lighter weight?). I have over a 1000 miles on my 3 so I'm pretty comfortable with it. I don't use creep and am able to modulate the...

    Unintended/Over Acceleration Event

What happened to me was opposite of this. It wasn't limiting my accelerating but rather accelerated a lot more than I had inputted into the accelerator pedal.
  31. H

    Unintended/Over Acceleration Event

Creep off. FYI - I haven't owned a car that "creeped" in almost 20 years.
  32. H

    Unintended/Over Acceleration Event

Full screen was working but I noticed that my radio streaming favorites were missing (typical). I did notice earlier in the previous drive that the owner's manual wasn't really working.
  33. H

    Unintended/Over Acceleration Event

SOC was at about 90%. To be honest, I'm not 100% sure regen wasn't working. I just noticed I was going pretty fast for a parking lot and I wasn't slowing down fast enough when I took my foot off the accelerator pedal.

    What is this seam?

Could it be a masking line for a respray of the bumper? Perhaps the line is extra paint and clear coat thickness.
  35. H

    Unintended/Over Acceleration Event

Something that freaked me out a bit happened earlier today so I thought I'd share. I've already reported it to Tesla and they've escalated and are pulling the logs. I hopped into my Model 3 to head home from work, stepped on the brake and shifted the car into D to pull forward out of the...

Can't find the metal on metal rattle

I took delivery of my Model 3 a month ago and have noticed a rattle coming from the back rear seats that sounds like a loose seat latch rattling around. I happens when I go over bumps or rough roads regardless of whether or not someone is sitting in the back. It's maddening because I can't...

    SEC Lawsuit

Theranos was never a publicly traded company so all their few investors were wealthy and accredited. They weren't screwing the general public. Also the evidence with Elon was a lot more public than with Theranos.

    Dedham Vehicle Prep Quality?

Prep was not great but I didn't care much as I was getting PPF and ceramic on it so the detailer took care of a lot of it. The paint had a lot of grit and grime embedded in it - something typically a clay bar would have taken care of. I also noticed a lot of microscratches and swirls in the...

Did Tesla stop warning about Supercharging idle fees?

I just checked my account and noticed there was a balance for Supercharger idle fees. I've gotten warnings previously but didn't get a warning on my app for the time they charged me for idling (it was inside a paid parking garage) nor did I get a warning today when I fully charged at a...

S100D Air Conditioner Cuts out on Humid Days?

Good point. The relay in the ICE is to engage/disengage the compressor clutch which is needed because the engine is always turning. Obviously not needed in a Tesla but the compressor does cycle on and off normally.
  42. H

S100D Air Conditioner Cuts out on Humid Days?

I had this exact same issue with a non-Tesla car (Subaru). When it was really humid out, especially raining, the AC compressor would cut out and be intermittent. I'd toggle the AC button a bunch and it would eventually come back on for a bit before cutting out again. The dealer said it was...

    Brake and Roll test

For those that are curious. Here's a Tesla on a roll brake machine: If Tesla is doing true track testing, as in collecting data under various conditions, then that may be redundant. Track testing is not just driving around a bit on the way to the outbound logistics lot to park the car for...

    Brake and Roll test

Here's my point of view as a Model S owner and a someone who just ordered a Model 3. I am concerned...very concerned and I'm sure as glad I'm not getting my Model 3 delivered in the next quarter. If anyone knows anything about the Toyota Production System - it's the absolute pinnacle of...

    Thatcham's Autopilot Test

I've definitely changed lanes without braking to avoid a stationary car. I do it all the time on the freeway when a line of traffic is stopped in my lane up ahead. I'll slow down only after I've changed lanes as I approach the line of stationary cars. I've also done this at stop lights with...

    Proposed Solution to Nag Issue

In legal terms, the misuse of autopilot is similar to an attractive nuisance. Having people sign waivers or something similar doesn't resolve this problem that Tesla is worried about. Tesla knows that the system works well enough that it encourages people to misuse the system, but that it...
