2017-2020 Model 3 recalled for trunk/rear camera issue

Yes, they did fix it. Though they did break a bunch of stuff while fixing the backup camera issue🤪

NHTSA compels Tesla to recall FSD feature

Correct me if I am wrong, but the difference is that CC doesn't default to make you speed. For example, if you set your TACC or CC at posted speed limit, it'll happily follow that. However, it sounds like FSD Beta (and I don't have it in my Model 3) will always try to roll through stop signs...

NHTSA compels Tesla to recall FSD feature

Has anyone asked who is responsible for tickets that would be given because the car is doing rolling stops or doing things that can result in a ticket? If the car is programmed to do that, would it actually be responsibility of Tesla to pay for the ticket if they are knowingly implementing an...

Auto air recirculation not working in V11?

It's in the mid-upper right half of the full climate menu. It's not a good way to switch the setting when trying to change the circulation mode while driving. I am still trying to figure out if the car did auto circulation before and has been disabled in V11. I always thought it was able to...

Post Elon Update Poll on FSD

Agreed. But does that mean we are putting unreasonable expectation on L4/L5 cars?

Post Elon Update Poll on FSD

But how would that work if some of the sensors failed? Current set of hardware does not have redundancy, right? So what happen if a debris from the road take out the front facing cameras on the windshield?

Post Elon Update Poll on FSD

I think a logical and graceful fallback and capability degradation plan for FSD operation would be good, and should clearly be communicated to driver if the system is meant to have driver in the loop. This is no different than a fly-by-wire system that can degrade from normal control law where...

Post Elon Update Poll on FSD

Can current suite of hardwares reach Level 4? Also, is Tesla ready to be liable for any accident while driving under L4? Seems like a huge financial liability for the company🤷‍♂️

FSD cannot make safe unprotected turns onto high speed roads

Seems like the main discussion here is whether the car would or would not initiate the unprotected turns. My question is, if FSD Beta does accidentally turn into oncoming traffic, would it recognize its error and perform corrective maneuvers to avoid the impact?

    Model Y LR vs. EV6

Best to test both cars if possible. I had a chance to drive EV6's sister car, the Ioniq 5, and there are pros and cons when compared to my Model 3. I would say if you want a car with more usable driver interface when driving plus a quieter and more comfortable ride, go with Ioniq 5 or EV6. If...

Everything wrong with V11 update / user interface.

Another issue I have noticed. I can't end a phone call if I have turn signal on, because the blind spot camera display blocks the buttons. This has happened a couple of times when I want to end a phone call while sitting at light waiting for left turn. Anyone has a workaround besides asking the...

Everything wrong with V11 update / user interface.

It'll be interesting to watch the development. However, if Tesla is so good at AI, why is my Model 3 auto wiper still so bad compared to others out there? Heck, my 2004 BMW 330i auto wiper worked better than my Model 3, let alone comparison to today's auto wiper implementation.

Tesla UI vs Apple CarPlay vs Android Auto

One thing I haven't seen people discussed is the notification capabilities of Android Auto and CarPlay. It goes beyond text messages. You can get messages from other apps such as WhatsApp and FB Messenger. Also, Google Assistant in Abdroid Auto is an incredibly powerful tool. For one, you can...

Rivian range to charge time is going to be an issue.

Agreed it would be nice to have a set standard and requirements on test method and definition of range. The main issue that I have with Tesla's EPA number is that in can actually trigger range anxiety because the difficulty to come close to actual EPA numbers. I had purposely gotten a Mid Range...

Rivian range to charge time is going to be an issue.

Rivian is on a 400V system, right? Is it feasible to get to 300kW using 400V architecture?

Everything wrong with V11 update / user interface.

Here is a new one I had just encountered tonight. The image of the car is stuck in the parking orientation while the car is in drive. I'll have to see if resetting will make it work again, because it stayed like this even after couple of drives...

Rivian range to charge time is going to be an issue.

Agreed with you there. I just think it would have been good to under promise and over deliver. It was a bit eye opening to me when I have to supercharge my Model 3 MR for a 180 miles round trip. I have come to live with it, but just saying that missing the EPA range by 30% isn't that great when...

Rivian range to charge time is going to be an issue.

I still don't understand how any of that has to do with accuracy of EPA assessment. We are not talking about efficiency, which Tesla is very good at. Having accurate EPA number is not about the car but the test method. Regardless of the car specifications and price point, the manufacturers...
  19. P

Rivian range to charge time is going to be an issue.

Don't think those difference should play into the discrepancy in EPA estimates. If anything, Tesla should be able to deliver EPA numbers that consumers can easily match, given their vast amount of experience in EV compared to BMW and others.
  20. P

Rivian range to charge time is going to be an issue.

i3 is definitely slower than my Model 3. However, I don't think my driving characteristic is different between the two cars, since majority of the time was spent cruising on the freeway. I just think that BMW and Tesla compute their EPA number differently, so i3 is a bit easier to get to EPA...

Rivian range to charge time is going to be an issue.

The i3 I had before my Model 3 could easily get within 10% of the EPA rating. My Model 3 driving the same route in same condition is usually 25 to 30% off the EPA range. On top of that, the i3 didn't show any battery degression in the 28 months that I had the car, whereas the Model 3 has already...

Auto air recirculation not working in V11?

Anyone noticed their auto air recirculation no longer works in V11? I have just realized that today. Previously the car would automatically switch between inside and outside air.

    Wipers won't freaking stop

I did use the Dash Cam feature to record the windshield condition when it auto wipes and when I had to override, and I seriously can't see any difference in the camera views. There are rain drops in the video, but it's barely visible. Perhaps the computer is better at figuring it out than our eyes?

2017-2020 Model 3 recalled for trunk/rear camera issue

I definitely do that, but I feel that the risk is still there. In a busy parking lot such as Costco, Target, and school, it’s not unusual to have things pop out that could get into that blind spot, especially when two big cars decided to sandwich you in the middle of rush shopping hours.
  28. P

2017-2020 Model 3 recalled for trunk/rear camera issue

Hmm, perhaps I am not doing something right, but how do you see the blind spot below the trunk line? I can’t see little kids behind the car in a parking lot without the backup camera.

    Poll on V11 interface

Isn’t this one of the primary issues with the new UI? We shouldn’t need to figure our gestures like we do on a phone. It should be a rapid interaction with the screen without having to worry whether we have executed the wing command. The fact that you can perform different actions on the same...

2017-2020 Model 3 recalled for trunk/rear camera issue

The issue with Model 3 is the lack of rear visibility. I have the backup camera issue right now, and I don’t feel comfortable backing up the car in crowded parking lot because the blind spot is just horrible. There is no way around the blind spot, even with the side repeaters. I have no issues...

2017-2020 Model 3 recalled for trunk/rear camera issue

Looks like the exact issue I am having right now. The camera will malfunction often after I open and close the trunk. I have an appointment in 3 weeks to replace the harness.

    Poll on V11 interface

Agreed, but things like window defroster and dash cam doesn't have physical button, so only way to activate is to take eyes off the road. It used to be a quick glance, but now both require you to look at screen to make sure you hit at least two buttons on 2 different screens. Also, who's to say...

    Poll on V11 interface

For those that thinks voice command is ok for critical functions such as wiper settings, would you be ok if Tesla one day disables the window buttons and say you can only operate them using voice commands? How about turn signals?

New update 2021.44.25 adds customizable app launcher like Model S refresh plus other major upgrades to system.

Also, it’s a good idea to have a quick check in case the car hits debris or big pothole to make sure the tires are ok.

    Poll on V11 interface

They should also implement voice command activation similar to BMW, Mercedes, and others, where you can just say BMW, Mercedes, or a simple word to activate the voice function. There shouldn’t be need to click a voice command button in order to activate the voice command.

New update 2021.44.25 adds customizable app launcher like Model S refresh plus other major upgrades to system.

My main issue isn’t the updated graphical interface, it’s the user experience and functional design. I like the customizable menu and some of the new design elements. However, I really don’t like how they make it more difficult to perform important and/or safety related functions, such as...

    Poll on V11 interface

The red dot is there on the shortcut icon, what I meant to say is that it won’t trigger a recording if you press the icon. I maybe mistaking, but it does appear the only way to manually trigger a dash cam recording without honking is by touching the sentry button in the controls menu. I will be...

    Poll on V11 interface

For me, the dash cam shortcut doesn’t activate the recorder. It only brings up the player even when I am moving. I have to click on Car and go into the Controls menu and tap the Sentry button in that menu.

New update 2021.44.25 adds customizable app launcher like Model S refresh plus other major upgrades to system.

My Model 3 auto wiper hasn’t worked since October, and Tesla service concluded it’s a software issue. It’s fine if they want to bury the menu once it’s working perfectly, but it’s not fun constantly tapping the screen to change wiper speed during changing conditions when the auto wiper fails...

    Wipers won't freaking stop

Just a follow up. Talked to the service center and turns out that only thing they can do is test whether the wiper issue is due to a worn wiper motor. Other than that, they will just report the issue to engineering and hope it gets addressed. Looks like I just have to hope one of the future...

    Wipers won't freaking stop

Tried that a few times and it didn't appear to fix it. BTW, I am curious if there is correlation to the version of FSD computer in the car. I have a 2018 Model 3 with Hardware 2.5. Does anyone with hardware 3.0 having the same wiper issue? If not, could this be that the latest wiper code is...

    Wipers won't freaking stop

Tesla reinvented auto wiper sensor and is using one of the front facing cameras to detect rain. It's likely why its operation can be very finicky compared to the typical conventional rain sensor. We also have a BMW X7 and that auto wiper system works beautifully!
