    Cybertruck launch

That looks like an F350 which doesn't come standard with a winch either. If you want one add one, to either truck. Physics matter, no matter the planet. Looking at the dip, the angle and the packed ice, anything out there would have gotten stuck, not sure even chains would have mattered. I...

Blog Tesla Will Move HQ Out of California After Fight Against Health Order

After 20 years in tech in the Bay area, I moved to a "red state" and every single metric you listed is objectively better. Other than perhaps medical care since I lived near Stanford, but it's close. Gross generalizations and divisiveness are the problem, not the solution.

    Software Update 2019.20.x

I noticed a weird behavior. A suburban road I often travel has a typical white fog line and double yellow center stripe. There are plenty of side streets, and at each side street the fog line disappears, obviously. The side streets have stop signs but I don't. If I'm going straight down the...

Taycan impact on Model S - a theory I hope is not true

Yeah, I have also owned several Porsche's over the years and am active on Porsche forums and regional groups on a daily basis. There's a 77 page thread about the Taycan impact on Tesla on one of the forums, and I have never heard anyone say or even imply that the Taycan is a "Tesla Killer"...

Taycan impact on Model S - a theory I hope is not true

As a TSLA investor myself, why is it unreasonable to be concerned? If it's really just FUD, fantastic! Please point me to a source I can read, to counter the more pessimistic ones I've already read. I have read a few but they tend to be as aggressively biased as the "FUD". I just want some...

Taycan impact on Model S - a theory I hope is not true

Wow, I know that being overtly judgmental is all the rage these days but dayum. You should read my post right above yours to understand why not much of what you wrote is true. At one point Tesla was probably 10 years ahead of the EV competition. They still are a bit ahead, but if you follow...

Taycan impact on Model S - a theory I hope is not true

I'm probably in the target demographic. I replaced a 911 with a Model S partially because my kids outgrew the rear seats. Now I have a Taycan reserved to replace the MS. In the 3 years I've owned my MS, I rarely used the superchargers. Having it topped off every morning has met my needs...

Tesla Rip Off- Full Self Driving

Agreed, and exactly what many of us will do. That's not the question though. The question is: Should Tesla take steps to acknowledge the specific issues driving that behavior, and encourage us to reconsider? Or is just milking fanbois forever a viable business model? It might be, I honestly...

Tesla Rip Off- Full Self Driving

I had a great purchase experience but a terrible delivery experience. I had some bad issues after delivery, but Tesla stepped up and gave me a fully loaded MX P100D as a free loaner for a couple of months until they resolved it. I hit a dead end for another significant issue, and someone on...

Tesla Rip Off- Full Self Driving

I purchased FSD because the Tesla sales person told me to my face that it "might be as long as 6 months, but it'll be out by then". They told me that in December 2016. So sure, there are disclaimers and caveat emptor and all that, but a Tesla employee looked me in the eye and lied, or more...

    New screens now available

The way Tesla decides to address this issue will directly impact my next car purchase. I have it narrowed down to 2, one Tesla and one not. What they are, are irrelevant, but what's important is that there are other options out there for many of us. I don't love or hate Tesla, or any other...

    Speculative Aerodynamic Model of Thrusters

Thank you Megan for digging into the science behind a fascinating topic. I just have 2 comments that may be useful. A rubber car tire on pavement has many forces involved besides friction, thus there is nothing magical about 1 G. Dragsters and F1 cars can break 3-6 G's during acceleration...

Signature Black Wall Connector, ship yet?

I talked to a Tesla rep about this and he said they won't be in production until late summer. I needed one asap for a second house so they sent me a regular one in it's place which I thought was pretty cool.

Owning a Tesla in a remote place

I'm moving to a place where the nearest Tesla SC or dealer is over 700 miles round trip. I was going to sell/trade-in my Tesla but I thought I'd first see if anyone here is also far from the nearest SC and how that's working out. So far in my 1+ year of ownership I'd been to the SC about 5...

Tracking the new roadster - heat soak solved?

Hmm, I do a lot of track days and I have a different view. This is a halo sports car, so even if 99% of owners don't track it, if it embarrasses itself like the Model S did on the Lightning Lap, where it failed to complete a single timed lap without hitting limp home mode, it will fail in its...

    Firmware Issues? 2017.36 1b27c6d

Since 2017.36 1b27c6d: 1) For each drive, first Bluetooth phone call, the person on the other end can't hear me. Subsequent calls OK. 2) Hanging up phone unmutes Nav. 3) Streaming music stays muted after each phone call. Must switch to Radio or USB then back to get streaming music back. 4)...

    Just ordered my Tesla HPWC!

I had a HPWC installed and would do it again. It's takes me an extra 5 seconds to plug/unplug vs. dealing with the included 14-50 charge cord every time, which I would always want to have with me for emergencies. Also, charging at 78A occasionally comes in handy when I'm trying to squeeze in...

Posting this here means you already know the answer you'll get, so you're fishing for something. What is it? Reassurance that it's OK to wait an extra week or two for delivery? Yes, it's worth the wait.

P100D Delivery Disaster, trying to resolve it with Tesla

I'm glad to hear this! My delivery experience was also problematic and my issues weren't resolved until I posted here and got some good advice and help. Post your problems here, good people are reading and willing to help. Be patient, Tesla screws up sometimes but usually makes up for it...

Tesla with Interior Upgrade vs. ICE luxury cars

Minimalist is fine but that's not the problem, quality is. Quality means craftsmanship, materials and details. I love my car but at $150K MSRP I wish it had better materials, even gaps, quality stitching, less rattles and a few basic minor details found on $25K cars like intermittent wipers...

    100D upgrade to 72amp charger?

It's not uncommon for me to come home from work and top it off for an hour while taking a shower and changing before going back out. I don't take advantage of it very often, but so far it's been 100% more useful than the FSD I also bought. :p
  22. AirKuhl

    Frustrated with FSD timeline

It's common to start training with hand labeled data simply because you can deploy an army of interns and temps to get it done quickly. Eventually you can feed in structured (not necessarily hand labeled) data. It'll never be 100% accurate but it scores data based on how certain it is of the...

List of Homelink Garage Door Openers That Work

I have a Genie Excelerator. Programmed in a few seconds, screw drive so pretty quiet, and opens twice as fast as other openers.

    No ventilated seats as promised

I have ventilated seats. They suck, pun intended. Compared to most other cars with seat ventilation, these barely work. I hope this works out for you but worst case, you really aren't missing much.

Model S now vs Model 3 in a year

Cars are depreciating assets, stop worrying about the $$$'s. You have to drive something the next few years anyway, why deprive yourself of a Tesla? Drive a MS for a couple of years and then decide if you want to replace it with a M3. It's a no-brainer.

Corporate espionage - does BMW know more about Tesla than we do?

I don't know if there is a lot of spying going on. Maybe I'm naive but I don't think the risk/reward is as high as some people think. If anything a news organization would have more motive than a competitor. I can tell you for certain that almost every major manufacturer is investing...

    Another bad SP100D delivery experience

UPDATE: Tesla finally reached out to me and tried to make things right. While I'll always carry a small scar, they did a great job helping heal the wound. Much more importantly, I got the impression that they are really trying to improve and not just buying off an irate customer. Good job...

    Autopilot....meh

I love it even with it's limitations. I use it 5 days a week during boring parts of my commute. Interesting to see the split in opinions. I think those of us that see it as an occasional driver aid like it and those that expected a driver replacement are, not surprisingly, disappointed.

Autopilot for HW2 rolling out to all HW2 cars today!

This is my experience as well. I had 6 weeks of an AP1 loaner where I used auto-steer 5 days a week. While there are discernible differences as of today, I feel confident that AP2 will catch up quickly.

    Mirror not folding out completely

Same here. Makes it 75% of the way half the time. I turned it off too since I don't really have a need for it, not worth making a special service trip.

Autopilot for HW2 rolling out to all HW2 cars today!

Ok cool, thanks. Can I stop the car before getting out? Not sure I can run fast enough to catch back up. :D

Thanks Jeff, I appreciate your reply and no hard feelings at all. I fight my own tendency towards cynicism every day and sometimes I fail. Clearly your intentions are good and I hope folks recognize that mine are as well.

Autopilot for HW2 rolling out to all HW2 cars today!

I'm on 17.7.2. Yesterday I had auto-steer in several places on my commute and it behaved as expected. Today on the same commute at the same time in the same places, the car never offered the gray steering wheel. Is this a known issue?

    Another bad SP100D delivery experience

Hey man, I know you! 550 Spyder pic? Now where's that damn  emoticon??? And yes, Moxxi puts a smile on my face every time I floor the rheostat. I don't blame the car for anything, hell, even the Tesla folks have been super nice if ineffective. This place cool? Should I stick...

Thanks for the support. :) It's tough enough to go through all that only to be victim-shamed. It's all good though, I'm here and I'm not going away anytime soon. If anyone has any questions I'm happy to answer. Good news is that I finally have my car back and it's a joy to drive. I look...

    Another bad SP100D delivery experience

Hi Jeff, Wow, your cynicism is weird and saddening. My account is inaccurate in one small detail, I left out a few things that weren't as significant. For example, they also forgot to put the little underline under the rear model designation to indicate Ludicrous mode. I assume that was...

    Another bad SP100D delivery experience

Close. It's actually worse that that. 1) It showed up one day in MyTesla out of the blue, no explanation. 2) When I asked one of the few Tesla folks that were responsive, he seemed incredulous that no one told me about my rebuild yet and would have someone contact me (spoiler alert: no one...

    Another bad SP100D delivery experience

Yup, I'm an optimist that doesn't hold grudges, but I'm not an apologist either. I hope to enjoy a great car, but I also hope that Tesla gets to a point where they can succeed on their own merits without an asterisk or caveat. I know for fact that several other companies are investing massive...

    Another bad SP100D delivery experience

I was hoping my first post here would be more positive, but so it goes. Sorry for the wall of text but it's cathartic to write it down. Like many others, I was intrigued yet cautious about Tesla for quite a while and I assumed that with the latest facelift the Model S was finally sorted out...
