    Very Orange vs Magma Orange

@Roadster - :) The orange one I helped sell just arrived (last week) in California. I was happy to hear it made it there without a scratch and a bit sad that I didn't have the motivation to purchase it myself. There are still a handful of Roadster's over here sitting and waiting for a loving...

    Today's Roadster Orphan

Thanks @Roadster :) Yes, the LOG file confirms that the battery was very low when this message was displayed. And, like the other Roadster I was looking at here in Japan, it hasn't been in for its service check for a while as evidenced by the "Service required" message and subsequent regular...

    Today's Roadster Orphan

@DeedWest - I visited the dealer that has 865 a couple of days ago and got the drive log file. The car looks quite nice. Back tires have zero tread...I haven't seen a tire with so little tread in a long time. Digging through the logs there are a few issues with zero charge and some temperature...

Request for advice on buying a used Roadster in Japan

Thank you very much for the comments and information. And, yes, there is a mixture of 50hz and 60hz here. I had completely forgotten about that. I don't see anything in the Japanese PDF that references that fact though so I'm guessing it is something that is dealt with by the car's internal...

Request for advice on buying a used Roadster in Japan

Sorry to bump this but....just wanted to check and make sure those values I listed above: Between 102 ~ 104 volts & somewhere between 1 & 10 amps of 15 amps (most are around 3 or 4 amps but there are a few random 9s and 10s). The "energy" column is all 0 Kwh which I guess makes sense as that...

@TEG --> If you are searching for photos, blog entries, etc. about Tesla Roadsters in Japan, the following in a Google search will provide a wealth of returns. テスラ ロードスター In the Japanese alphabet, used for foreign words, that is "Tesla Roadster" :-) Maybe that is what you have already been doing?

@gregd --> Thanks, the voltage and current for those short events was: Between 102 ~ 104 volts & somewhere between 1 & 10 amps of 15 amps (most are around 3 or 4 amps but there are a few random 9s and 10s). The "energy" column is all 0 Kwh which I guess makes sense as that is the amount of...

Request for advice on buying a used Roadster in Japan

Actually, I've been using the terminal via my Mac with vmsparser. No allergy to command line but I can't seem to get my head around all the data the way I want to. I was/am working toward trying to figure out exactly what's been pointed out here....that is, did the car simply run out of charge...

Request for advice on buying a used Roadster in Japan

Thanks - I wasn't aware of a Mac version. I'll search that out briefly as the Windows troubleshooting looks like it's going to be a bit time consuming....time that I don't unfortunately have. :-)

Request for advice on buying a used Roadster in Japan

Thanks - I'm planning on that but I'm primarily a Mac user. I do have Windows installed via Bootcamp and hadn't used it for months. Tried to restart into Windows for that purpose and found that a recent Mac OS update has temporarily tanked by Windows install. It's fixable though...I just haven't...

Request for advice on buying a used Roadster in Japan

Thanks, that is reassuring to know. Also, I forgot to note that the drop around the end of March in 2012 coincides with information I have about a battery change at that time. I thought a battery change would result in a sudden CAC spike upwards but I guess that is not the case. The gradual...

Request for advice on buying a used Roadster in Japan

I'm still digging through the logs and wanted to ask, again, for opinions, comments etc. related to something that is bugging me. When looking at the charge log I see that the battery has been allowed to drop to 0% on multiple occasions. :-( It appears that there is a gradual drop in CAC each...

Request for advice on buying a used Roadster in Japan

Hmm, I guess so...I was confused....or being willfully ignorant. I thought I had found information about adapters for CHAdeMO to Tesla Roadster on the web but clearly I was looking at the Tesla CHAdeMO adapter that is NOT compatible with the Roadster. :-( It is scary how one can see and read...

Request for advice on buying a used Roadster in Japan

Thanks again for your helpful comments and information. I've been digging around in the log files some via command line and some via a text editor and direct peeking at the files. "Painful birth" might be the best explanation :-) Regarding charging here in Japan, yes, with an adaptor it would...

Thanks - yes, -p brings up records back to 4/29/11. Also, I probably don't fully understand how to parse and analyze the log files yet but using the -p flag and exporting to a text file that I then import into Excel for easier sorting, the first odometer reading I can find is 4187.7 miles on the...

Request for advice on buying a used Roadster in Japan

There is an interesting 0 in the CAC column row on the date the battery was said to have been changed but the CAC the line before and after that zero are the same which seems odd if the battery was really changed out. I would think the new battery would have a higher CAC than the old one...

Request for advice on buying a used Roadster in Japan

Update on my search for information: 1. I went to the dealer today with USB in hand to download the log files. I had prepared a small USB stick (256 MB) with the directory required, formatting (or so I thought), etc. However, I found out, after fiddling for almost 30 minutes, that my USB was...

The plate is from 'Shinagawa' (品川) which is part of Tokyo so, unless it's been reregistered elsewhere since then it should be somewhere around that area. Isn't the number on that one in the snow 4-36? (品川301 る・4・36)I think... P.S. I'm pretty sure that snow shot is Photoshop superimposed...no? :)

Request for advice on buying a used Roadster in Japan

Although this is old, it's fairly accurate even today. As stated, the actual inspection is relatively cheap (it's about $15 today). There is a system called "User Shaken", referred to at the bottom of the piece, that allows the car owner to take the vehicle through the inspection line...

Request for advice on buying a used Roadster in Japan

@wiztecy and @dgh --> Yes, the car has been lowered. The suspension was changed along with calipers, wheels and tires. It is adjustable and is about as low as it will go now. To pass the required safety inspection (every two years) I'm pretty sure it would need to be raised a bit as I can't see...

Request for advice on buying a used Roadster in Japan

I can't be for sure but that red one in the back left looks like the one I rode in the other day. The article says "a dozen right hand drive Tesla Roadsters" but if the VIN numbers provided the other day are this dozen then "right hand drive" doesn't apply to all of them. Regardless, hopefully...

@Roadster - Actually, there are more than that. I only looked for cars on the list posted by TEG. If you want to search for Teslas for sale here in Japan, here's a quick and easy guide: 1. Go to Carsensor.net - At the top right of the screen is a search box that looks like this: 2. Enter the...

@gregd - In addition to the updated suspension, calipers, wheels, and tires, the previous owner installed some underbody blue LED lighting. The two switches are for the lights. It's just a little over the top (as is the lowering of the chassis) but pretty cool.

Request for advice on buying a used Roadster in Japan

Thanks - I guess I was composing my message while you posted this one. The dealer said it was more of the "electric car" issue than the left hand drive. Left hand drives aren't as 'fashionable' as they used to but some people still think they are cool. Tesla just doesn't have the name...
