Blog Tesla to Reduce Interior Options for Model S and Model X

This. Textile seats in a premium flagship car that costs this much make no sense.

InsideEVs: Key Fob free to current owners!

The phone works fine almost all the time but the issue is when someone’s out and about and their phone battery dies.

ICE: Would you ever go back?

Still have ICE. Will permanently switch to EVs once there’s more variety as the current choices are very limited. And Tesla’s, while great in many areas, are sorely lacking in others.

    Grinding Noise on Bumps

Check underneath the vehicle. I hve a loose cover on the underside of the car that rubs against the road. Have to take it in to service.

Is it smart to buy FSD for $5k while it’s still available for MX owners?

You’re forgetting competition. Tesla can’t charge way more than competitors will for self driving. They might even get there first.

Tesla Model 3 Drive System Validated after 1 Million Miles of Testing

It’s not going to be the drive units that will lead to end of life for these vehicles. It will be the body, interior, seats etc. I doubt even a Lexus could go 1 million miles without the body & interior seeing significant deterioration.

    Seat (dis)comfort after 5,000 miles

If that’s the case and there are substantial car by car variances, then Tesla really needs to improve their ability to produce quality vehicles consistently. Either that or people are not comparing to other high quality, comfortable and well insulated vehicles.

What part(s) of your Model 3 are unpainted from the factory?

Can any one confirm this? I remember watching a Tesla factory video that showed that the corrosion protection is also sprayed on instead of being applied in a bath. I remember thinking spraying would not provide 100% coverage like a bath would.

Who will never get on a Tesla waiting list again?

I’ll probably do it again for the Model Y. But I’d like it to be a better car than the Model 3. Needs better wind and road noise isolation, more comfortable and adjustable seats, less spartan interior with an instrument cluster and basic creature comforts eg. power trunk closing.

The Nag makes driving on Autopilot almost impossible for me...

I think the Cadillac Supercruise system gives you some time to respond if I’m not mistaken. GM didn’t want to classify it and you’re required to pay attention but I’d guess it probably has the capability to be a level 3 system on mapped, divided highways. I too hate the autopilot nag. It nags...

    New blind spot monitor!

Agreed, a beep or a vibration of the steering wheel would be very useful and completely overcome the lack of wing mirror lights.

Matrix LED headlights finally coming to the US!

I disagree. If that was the case, why would people use high beams. This technology is essentially high-beams that are usable at all times with other vehicles in the vicinity.

    Seat (dis)comfort after 5,000 miles

Even some mainstream cars costing way less than $35,000 have much lower wind and road noise, eg Chevy Malibu, Hyundai Sonata, Toyota Camry, Buick LaCrosse etc
  15. lux_cars

    Seat (dis)comfort after 5,000 miles

I have a recent build with gen 2 seats. I wouldn’t say they’re terrible but they’re also not good enough for a premium vehicle, esp the short and low bottom cushion that lacks adjustability. It doesn’t help that the car suffers from high wind and road noise. IMO comfort is the biggest knock...

I have similar creaking/rattling sounds coming and plan to take it to the SC at some point.

    Racing stripes on model 3?

That would be awesome to transport skis. Wonder where/how they got these made.
  18. lux_cars

    Seat (dis)comfort after 5,000 miles

I found the Model 3 seats lacking from day 1. They’re not bad, just not up to par for seats on a premium vehicle and don’t measure up to for instance those on a Lexus. The thigh support is too low and short and not extendable. On long drives of several hours, you can feel the difference.

Petition to demand "camera on top, media player on bottom" be retained in UI

Just read about this! So I’m assuming all AP2 cars even without EAP/FSD are now using side cameras for blind spot detection?
  23. lux_cars

Petition to demand "camera on top, media player on bottom" be retained in UI

Slightly off-topic but this also goes to show that Tesla needs proper blind-spot monitors using rear-facing radar, not just slow ultrasonics, like every other automaker offers.

Sorry, I meant the Tesla HPWC.

What is the cheapest Ontario EVIP approved charger?

I have a NEMA 14-50 installed by electrician for new construction but was wondering if I can plug-in a wall connector directly and not use the UMC or will that require wiring in the wall connector?
  26. lux_cars

What is the cheapest Ontario EVIP approved charger?

A little off-topic, but can the Tesla wall connector be plugged in directly into a NEMA 14-50 outlet without requiring electrical work/an electrician?

    Customizing Model 3 interior

There’s no leather on the steering wheel airbag cover. I meant like in the photo below. But I don’t know if you can have that done aftermarket and still have the airbag stay functional and deploy when needed.

    Customizing Model 3 interior

Does anyone know if you can get stitched leather on the steering wheel airbag cover and top of dashboard (where I assume passenger airbag is)? Thanks.
  32. lux_cars

    Customizing Model 3 interior

I agree, BMW interiors are terrible unless you step up to the 7. The 3 series is all plastic.
  33. lux_cars

    Customizing Model 3 interior

Honestly, the biggest thing I find making the 3 look incomplete is the lack of an instrument cluster. The S and X interior don’t seem incomplete. I wish Tesla had just spent a few hundred dollars per car to add that to the 3.
  34. lux_cars

Did Elon admit on the investors call that card are going to need a new processor?

Also depends on what the completion is charging for FSD when it’s available.
  35. lux_cars

    75D v X5 Hybrid

I would go for the Model S. BMW’s have more fun steering but that’s about the only plus I can think of. Even with that, Tesla’s lighter steering would be more comfortable on monotonous commutes and long drives.
  36. lux_cars

    Customizing Model 3 interior

Mercedes interior design is definitely more ornate and that’s not to everyone’s taste. But even modern can be upscale eg in new Audis etc. 3 doesn’t feel like a $55k car. So I’d have to “fix” the interior if I get the 3. Being an EV is important but this feels like a compromise.
  37. lux_cars

    Customizing Model 3 interior

I could live with the S and X interior even though it’s not up to par for the price, but the 3 doesn’t even have a 2nd screen! Just seems incomplete to my eyes, not merely minimalist.
  38. lux_cars

    Customizing Model 3 interior

I’m considering a Model 3 for a family member but my biggest concern is that the interior is very spartan and not up to par with the competition. The other option is an E-Class which has a nice and luxurious interior IMO (see below). If I order the Model 3, I’d like to get some custom work done...

How is road/tire noise? Or is it just wind noise that’s an issue? Is the car significantly louder than a C-Class/A4 etc?

Can I take delivery & sell M3 for a profit?

I would add the very limited variety available. It’s basically just Teslas, Bolt & the Leaf.

    Ok. Will do that!

  44. lux_cars

Can I take delivery & sell M3 for a profit?

I had a reservation for a family member who no longer wishes to purchase the Model 3. I just received an invite to configure and was wondering if I could take delivery and sell for a profit (after accounting for 13% HST) or just transfer the reservation for a cash price? Also, if I take...

Model S range and interior update imminent?

Mercedes-Benz EQS electric sedan to sit alongside S-Class

Mercedes-Benz is committed to launching 10 electric cars by 2022. Some we already know like the EQA compact hatchback and EQC small SUV, as well as electric commercials like the eVito and eSprinter vans. A Mercedes exec has now confirmed that there will also be a large electric sedan to sit...

    Tesla Semi Event -- November 16, 2017

I’m really excited about next gen Model S/X now. If Tesla has enough resources and R&D to create this Semi and Roadster, then surely they can go head to head with big auto in building a true flagship sedan in the next gen Model S.

    Tesla Semi Event -- November 16, 2017

Is this official from Tesla? Ultrasonics are only good for low-speed maneuvers eg. parking. They need corner radars at least on a semi where I assume safety and redundancy requirements will be higher than passenger cars. But there was no mention of automatic lane changes so maybe Tesla Semi...
