I can’t believe someone would pay an extra $2k for capability that was promised at the time of the original vehicle purchase.

2021+ Model S and Model S Plaid Refresh Issues Thread

The Taycan is not a hatchback. That makes a big difference. Next time you close the hatch of your Model S, roll the windows down first. You’ll notice how the lack of air pressure from the cabin allows the lid to close much more easily and quietly.

    Retrofit for Steam

I have a 2021 Model S Plaid and would be interested in any collective action to get Tesla to honor their promises on this and also the 200mph claimed top speed.
  5. W

Class action? Tesla is charging $2000 to upgrade 16G RAM for 2021 owners to get steam working in car

I shouldn’t have to settle anything. The car was marketed as capable. It isn’t. Tesla makes this right or it’s cut and dry false advertising. Same with the 200mph claimed top speed that I’ve been waiting over a year to get.

    Trailer hitch on 2021 refresh?

Great photos, thanks. I also have a Plaid and am interested in installing a hitch. I would be using mine to tow a Kendon motorcycle trailer so wiring for lights is essential. Please keep us updated if you find a solution.

Supercharger - St. Augustine, FL - World Commerce Pkwy

Good progress being made. The wait shouldn’t be long now. I only see 12 pedestals though, not 16.

Six months on, no progress. ☹️

Agreed. Then they could have been pull-through which would be ideal for folks towing.

Is anyone else’s FSD Beta vehicle trying to install 2021.40.6?

As a matter of fact, my car did have a service appt. Monday am. I wound up not dropping off the car that morning but I got the software update notification on my way home. Coincidence?

Is anyone else’s FSD Beta vehicle trying to install 2021.40.6?

Same happened to me. I got an update notification yesterday and foolishly just installed it. I no longer have the FSDb and am running 2021.40.6 on my MS Plaid now.

Plaid owners - Tired of Plaid?

Yeah, it doesn‘t make any sense. I’d love to hear this explained.

    The Yoke Experience

not sure having your hand introduced to your face during an airbag deployment is more safe but ok.
  14. W

    Love/Hate the Plaid

Elon already addressed this pretty well. The yoke is different and fun for those who appreciate it. You have to recognize the Model S offers little more than sentimental value for Elon Co. now. He keeps it around for fun. The success or failure of the new S is inconsequential to the survival of...
  15. W

    Love/Hate the Plaid

The yoke is not superior. It’s not inferior either; it’s just different. Early on, I would have preferred progressive steering but now that I’ve adapted I truly don’t care. Turning the yoke over for full steering lock is an easy and fluid motion for me now. I get why Elon is reluctant to offer a...

To Plaid, or not to Plaid....that's a good question!

This is false. I can’t buy even a single Plaid badge for a dime, let alone a dozen.
  17. W

    The Yoke Experience

I've been driving with the yoke for two week and it really is NBD. Seriously, if you can adapt to one-pedal driving, you can adapt to the yoke. Is it better than a conventional wheel and controls? No. Is it worse? Not in my experience. It's just different and different can be cool and fun even...
  18. W

    Love/Hate the Plaid

I, too, had reservations about the yoke. I’m glad it didn’t keep me from buying the car, though. I’m only a couple weeks and 500 miles into ownership and I’m already used to it. This is one of those “you can’t knock it until you’ve (really) tried it” things.

Button on Plaid on back seat cup. Holders

Mine doesn’t work either. I put it on the list.

2021+ Model S and Model S Plaid Refresh Issues Thread

So their plan for the bunched up and stitched seat material is to hit it with steam? That’s only going to make it worse! Solutions are: 1) pull out the stitching, pull the material tight and restitch (not practical) or 2) replace the seat (expensive).

Plaid owners - Tired of Plaid?

With my old MX Raven Performance (which is about the same 0-60 as the new MS LR) my head wouldn’t be pinned to the headrest by the acceleration. With the new MS Plaid, it IS.

Model S Refresh 2021 - Front Passenger Side Window Distortion

My windshield is the same. Not sure if I should roll the dice on replacement as the ripples on mine are only noticeable on the lower passenger side. My wife doesn’t see them when looking straight out so they are only obvious at an angle, I guess.

2021+ Model S and Model S Plaid Refresh Issues Thread

Yeah, on my last three Tesla vehicle purchases I received some manner of “Due Bill”. This time, they flatly refused to give me anything in writing. You can 100% tell Tesla doesn’t give two shits about demand as their customer service at deliveries has gone from incredible, to meh, to horrid.
  24. W

    Love/Hate the Plaid

I wouldn’t be so certain that moving the horn button has anything to do with cost savings. There is a safety argument for it. How much sense does it make to put a button where your airbag deploys? This is particularly true for the same button you are likely to mash right before an impact. Having...

2021+ Model S and Model S Plaid Refresh Issues Thread

Although my windshield has distortion on the lower passenger side, the distortion in my driver’s front door window is FAR worse. Glad to hear: 1) they will replace and 2) replacement fixes the issue.

Model S Refresh 2021 - Front Passenger Side Window Distortion

If so, I look forward to being provided their specification. Would love to see how it compares to industry standards.

Model S Refresh 2021 - Front Passenger Side Window Distortion

Windshield and front door glass. The glass defects weren’t obvious until I started driving the car. They don’t even want to let you IN the car before accepting delivery, let alone drive it. This is my fourth Tesla, and the delivery experience has gotten worse every time. They will replace the...

Model S Refresh 2021 - Front Passenger Side Window Distortion

I picked up my new Model S Plaid on Sunday and it has glass distortion on the lower passenger side of the windshield and both front door windows. The back windows may have it too, but I haven’t checked those out yet. Anyway, I’m really thankful that Tesla just put out that glass promotional...

    A yoke or a joke?

The fact that the yoke blocks a portion of the main screen doesn’t bother you? Honestly curious as I’m scheduled to take delivery of my Plaid on Sunday and this is a concern of mine.
  30. W

    A yoke or a joke?

Maybe it’s due to my fondness for motorcycles and unconventional vehicles, but the yoke doesn‘t bother me in principle. What bothers me is its poor execution. It should be steer-by-wire with variable sensitivity, but it isn’t. It’s also supposed to be about offering an unobstructed view of the...

    Model S Plaid -- Battery Failure -- Day 1

After owning three Teslas and countless visits to my local service center, I’ve learned that the techs ALWAYS say whatever problem you’re having is uncommon and build quality has never been better. They stick to the script pretty admirably.
  32. W

Plaid owners - Tired of Plaid?

The price delta between the LR and Plaid will probably drop to $20k once the initial demand is sated. Just like it used to be for Performance over Long Range.

Current EcoHitch doesn't fit new Model S Refresh

Any news on this front? I’d really like to trade in my MX Performance on a new MS and the only thing making me hesitate is the inability to tow my motorcycle on its trailer. It’s not even 1,000lbs (450lb. bike on a 450lb. trailer) so I know the car can handle it without issue, just need a hitch...

LR or Plaid 7 seat option?

Unless I missed something, Tesla hasn’t offered a 7 seater option on Model S since 2018.
  36. W

Plaid owners - Tired of Plaid?

It’s interesting that it rarely gets mentioned that the LR is 205 lbs. lighter than the Plaid. That’s not an insubstantial difference! Most will rarely use the additional power of the Plaid over the LR in day-to-day driving but you will notice the weight difference on every corner and with every...

    Supercharger - Lexington, SC

I’m sure I’m preaching to the choir here but I can’t understand why convenience store chains like QT aren’t beating down Tesla’s door for Superchargers. Why wouldn’t you want captive customers for ~30 minutes? Their margin on gasoline sales is nothing compared to the items inside their stores. I...

White vs Cream vs Black interior

Have had three Teslas since 2017, all with white interior. Never once have I regretted it. Super easy to clean, cool to the touch in our hot Florida summers, and looks like it belongs in a space ship, especially when complimented by carbon fiber. I definitely want it again for my new Model S...

Enforcement of no parking to block the Superchargers.

The law doesn’t apply because there are general parking signs present. Even where it does apply, best of luck getting it enforced. Cops will tell you it‘s up to the property owner whether to enforce, and the vast majority of property owners are indifferent.

Enforcement of no parking to block the Superchargers.

Don’t count on it. Every other Wawa Supercharger location has 30 minute general parking signs at the Supercharger stalls. I don’t see why this location would be any different. The best you can hope for is that employees don’t park their cars there all day.

    2020 Model X headrest

I had a 2017 MX and now have a 2020 MX and I very much miss the last Gen seats. The headrest thing doesn’t bother me but the seat is not as comfortable. It does not have the same range of movement of the last Gen and after 6 months of ownership I have never been able to get the seating position...

    2019 front seats vs 2020

I recently purchased a 2020 Model X Performance to replace my leased late 2017 Model X 75D. I can tell you the difference in seat feel is noticeable. The new ones have thinner seat bolsters on the sides of the seat and seat back. Overall, the new seats just look and feel cheaper and less...

Any Concern parking in steamy FL hot garages?

Don't stress. I've had my Model X 75D for three years now and it spends most of the time parked in a steamy hot garage with afternoon sun exposure. Temps regularly get over 100 in my garage. I have about 3% battery degradation after 34k miles. Good charging practices like charging only to 70%...
