PowerWall 3 with optimizers or microinverters

I am not 100% sure here but I think it's unlikely there is a dc/dc converter increasing the DC voltages inside the Tesla PV inverter. Maybe someone else with more hardware experience can speak to this. The Solar Edge optimizer does have a buck/boost converter in it, and it is around 99%...

PowerWall 3 with optimizers or microinverters

AC coupling is only on hold for PW3 plus the Backup Switch. With the Gateway, AC coupling works now. These days with inverters like the PW3 have a silly wide range of DC voltages they will take. A string of 3 qcell modules will work and so will 13 of them so you have massive flexibility. As...

    System down - production compensation

Who installed your system? This is who you are contracted with and who services your warranty. If your equipment fails, the installer works with the manufacturer to get that equipment replaced. It sounds like that happened. Sometimes a customer can submit warranty issues on their own, but...

    System down - production compensation

If your installer gave you a production guarantee, you might be able to approach this from that perspective. Usually the winter months are the lowest production so you probably didn't loser out terribly for the year if it is working now. However it sounds like you had someone other than Tesla...

    Power quality issue: possible causes?

Typical measured values of our customer's 600-200A service are between 0.08 ohms and 0.22 ohms. The larger the transformer and closer it is the lower the impedance. I do know that the measured impedance is supposed to be a combination of resistance and reactance. Also, I think standard...

Discussion: Powershare [V2X feature currently announced for Cybertruck]

That's about 152A if it was all running full tilt boogie. Certainly there would be some losses from the DC to AC side. A typical 200A service would have wires inside it rated for 160A continuously, but who knows how large the line side conductors are. Regardless that's the power companies...

    Power quality issue: possible causes?

I have to start by mentioning that these types of grid issues are not my core competency, so I am guessing a lot. My first question was similar to Waynes above, and wondering if the PV inverter was actively exporting. You mentioned that you suspected impedance to be off, so I was thinking we...

Tesla Virtual Power Plant in CA

Lots of interesting information about the new DSGS program and it will probably be better for almost everyone compared to ELRP program. A couple of points to note: For those with an export limit, you can charge an EV or use other loads to spike your demand past the export limit, and force the...

Are Teslas talking to each other?

Though this is true, direct communication is better. How otherwise can you differentiate between a car in full brake lockup that is panic stopping but not actually stopping very quickly compared to the magnitude of the brake pressure. Also when just one brake light is showing you don't have the...

Are Teslas talking to each other?

I had often thought a visual code transmitted by the blinking/refresh speed of LED taillights would be an awesome way to implement some simple wireless vehicle-to-vehicle communication. Even if that communication only contained the magnitude of the brake press, that would be useful...

Windshield replacement is getting out of hand - cracks...

I drove my Model 3 for 140k miles and repaired and filled 5 different rock chips, always before the damage spread. If you get the initial damage before too long you can often avoid replacement and only have a tiny distortion in the glass. With my Model Y I got a crack within the first 5k miles...

    FSD free trial is over

Since I found this so useful for my 1.5-2 hour daily commute I bought the upgrade from EAP to FSD for $2k. help with powerwall - time of use working properly via tesla app.

It could be that your installer used firmware to flip your CT's, and a gateway update changed this. Other than that, I do not know what might be happening

    Powerwall 3 Partial Backup Metering

Currently Powerwall 3 is not compatible with Neurio meters, regardless of site controller and islanding hardware. Powerwall 3 with GW2 is compatible with wired CT's plugged into meter y with 100A max measurement.

    Powerwall 3 Partial Backup Metering

If your PW3 is connected to a Tesla Gateway it should have the ability to use Meter Y (100A max) to capture the consumption of non backed up loads. This assumes there is a way to get wired CT's from the GW area to the wires that feed those loads, and have a place to plug in the GW2.

PW3/PW+ Inverter EMI (high frequency transients on wiring)

I am not sure about your local grid conditions, but here in California I work for a solar installer. We have never had any issues related to harmonics with any on grid systems. Most inverters are rated for a THD of less than 5% Off-grid systems that never see a grid and have to balance a...

PowerShare for All Teslas & Integration - speculation

I wonder if this is true for both DC and AC connections. I understand that AC doesn't have bi-directionality except the Cybertruck. I understand that CCS charging standard does have bi-directional charging as part of the standard so maybe there is access through the charge port, just not from...

    FSD now $8,000. Who's buying?

Today I tested the nag frequency in my morning commute. It seems that when within 5 of the speed limit, the nags are approximately once per 45-60 seconds. This seems to decrease in time such that when I went 30 seconds between nags when going 85 in a 65 zone. Where there had been many nags...

    FSD now $8,000. Who's buying?

My experience with nags is that if I am looking straight at the road there are rarely nags, like one nag in 3 minutes depending on speed with relation to the posted limit. As I tap the accelerator to increase speed, or the traffic is speeding such that FSD also speeds the nags are more...

    FSD now $8,000. Who's buying?

If I was interested in a toy I'd buy a new GPU or a new console game. I drive 4k miles per month and having FSD has made this last month that much easier of a drive. Between selling TSLA stocks, buying 4 rental properties and turning one of them over this month, my budget is stretched. This is...

    FSD now $8,000. Who's buying?

I bought EAP for $6k and thought after 2 weeks that it would be worth $6k to upgrade to full autopilot. The 12.3.4 is so good I am loving it. Now it has been reduced to $2k my only question is how long will this last, as I am certainly buying it but not sure if I can do that right now with...

    Looks like I can’t have the PG&E plan E1, that’s a problem

If you are under the NBT, AKA NEM 3.0 then my advice above is maybe not relevant. I don't know much about the NBT. The reason Self powered costs more is that it will draw from the grid the FEWEST NUMBER of kWh that can be drawn, regardless that a kWh might cost 2-3X more during peak times. EDIT...

Post Installation / Pre-PTO System Intentionally Limited?

I suspect there is a smoothing algorithm that understands that there are likely 6 good production hours in a day, but if you have enough PV to fill the batteries in 2-3 hours, then there is no need to charge at full speed. Imagine that the PW charged at max in the above example. All else being...

Does a battery ever have a positive ROI with net metering

Does a battery ever have a positive ROI with net metering

I took a look at the RUIXU site as this price seemed pretty crazy low. Unfortunately, this battery is not code compliant with residential installations on buildings in most jurisdictions. Creeping mode

I touch the accelerator very very carefully. Unlike many ICE vehicles, Tesla EV have a very linear power delivery with respect to pedal position. Many ICE vehicles are tuned to "feel powerful" by making the first 10-20% of pedal travel provide 50% or more of the available horsepower.

Powerwall 3 set to 45% backup reserve, at 43% now

Is there a reason to get the Tesla wall connector over other level 2 home chargers?

To be clear I marked this disagree because it has somewhat incorrect information. Though the wire is rated for 90C you cannot use it to terminate in a panelboard at that ampacity unless the terminations are rated for 90C. No residential 240V panelboard and breakers are rated more than 75C...

Constant Grid Power Usage Despite plenty of Solar and/or Powerwall Power to cover home load

Is there a reason to get the Tesla wall connector over other level 2 home chargers?

I am not an MA electrician, but my understanding is that MA does not have a blanket restriction to use NM cable at 60C ampacity ratings. They are allowed to understand if NM is embedded in insulation for a good portion of its length, then it is rated at 60C and 55A. If there is no insulation to...

    Powerwall 2 Questions

I think but am not sure that if you leave it connected to 240v, it will eventually trickle charge itself from line voltage if it is still alive. I am not sure of this or how long it would take, but I have seen this trickle charge behavior when the breaker is connected but the switch is off.

Tesla Says I Can Only Get *ONE* Powerwall bc of my Utility's Rules

Or utilities accept that the Inverter is an electronic device, that can limit it's own output. The reason they do so is likely primarily that they dont have to, and making it more difficult to get PV+ESS means they keep more customers reliant on them. Utilities are basically monopolies in many...

Discussion: Powerwall 3 [Speculation / Discussion etc]
