Whiskey Tango....................................................., where are you going? My point is in a regulated environment, and as a former APT, you know this, automation has led to air travel being the safest mode of transportation. The roadways are NOT regulated, so for FSD in vehicles...

Missing the point. FSD operating in a random environment as driving from house to work is impressive. So one an see how it "should" be safer. Flying is not random and very regulated.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I am not crazy about FSD tech, but I can understand it being safer. An example, unbeknown to most when you take off in an airliner, SOP is around 500-1000ft engage the autopilot and make course and speed corrections through it. Autopilot gets disengaged late into the final around 1500 feet...

Is rear steering needed on the Y? Is it worth the extra cost? It may have it, but the rear steering is not as pronounced. Agreed on the steer by wire, which means a 48V architecture.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

The rear wheels have a narrower track than the front. Great for efficiency, horrible for performance. FSD protections will keep this vehicle from operating beyond its safe envelope. Cannot see how a consumer version of this car is competitive. It may be a smarter move to design a consumer car...

Now we will see how Tesla competes in the market as a mainstream player just like everyone else. Can it compete over the long haul? Uber revolutionized the taxi business. But guess what, the majority still drive their personal cars, and young people still aspire to own one.

This thread mimics the mood surrounding Tesla. When the stock was rising like a Falcon 9 rocket this was place was party. Now a little adversity and uncertainty and some posters want to quit. Then quit. Or Follow the example of the remaining Tesla workers and engineers who do their jobs...

Happens all the time at automakers. Remember the 2010 RWD Acura RL and NSX with the V-10? Oh, you did not know it was canceled after the all the R&D work was done. GM, BMW, and Mercedes just canceled vehicles that was far along in the development. Unless you are car guy and read automotive news...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I think we put too much emphasis on how the Model 2 will be built. A lower-priced product built on lines already amortized is a smart move. Especially if the 48V architecture moves to the best-selling car, that drops costs significantly, and not just the RT, and CT.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

The danger is if Tesla sells the SC then it becomes like every other automaker. Unless the rumors are true Tesla is pivoting to a RT and energy storage company. Shanghai, Austin, Fremont and Berlin may be on the block in a decade.
  33. F

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

True, but how much variation is there for cars bound for the Chinese market compared to ROW. The new M3 Performance has 19-inch wheels for the China and others vs 20 inches for ROW. So again, why the separate design team?
  34. F

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

The point of having a design center in China and California never made sense to me. Even if Tesla product line expanded to from 5 to 10 vehicles, does it really necessitate two separate design teams? Engineering yes, design, no.

Test routing? Have the RT get on 130 north out of the factory speed up to the posted 85 mph, and not get run over, see if AI is smart enough not to sit in the far left lane. Take the 290 exit west toward Austin (by the way make sure the RT has a toll tag). Take the I-35 South exit to downtown...

This is nothing new, the AI bubble will burst and the flow of power swing the other way. The "power" we are talking about is salary. In either case, as other articles have stated, QOL is out the window during this AI frenzy, be it at Tesla, a startup, or elsewhere.

    1. The mood of this forum is based on how the stock is doing. When Elon went to China and surprised everyone with the good news, the stock went up 10 points in a day and the mood here was reminiscent of the pre-Covid days. Then SC team layoffs came with no context and the stock went down again...
