Recurrent: Model 3 drivers got 72% of EPA range with new cars, 64% after three years

I have a 2019 M3LR with about 26k miles (I work from home since pandemic) and I have 225wk/mi. 80% charge for me when I got it was 248 miles range. Now it is between 230 and 238, very good it would seem. I also get OVER the EPA in the summer, with wh/mi around 205 and getting 250 miles an an 80%...

    Mileage lower than expected

I actually regularly get over the range in the summer on my M3LR. I do almost no highway driving. When I charge to 80%, it shows anywhere from 230-238, but I will get 250. When I do the highway, it is not over 65 as I try to avoid any chance of a ticket.

    Mileage lower than expected

What? That is utter nonsense. What clown at Tesla thinks that not getting 421 would be a problem with the car? Sounds like a comedy skit.
  4. garth_angst

Max miles decrease 223 miles at 80%

Heh, this is like a play on words, with kind of double negative. "Reduction in degradation". Are you saying below 55% causes more or less degradation.

Nail in tire at ~400 Miles 23M3P

I heard that bullshit too about it being a run flat from Mavis because they were inept or lazy. I went elsewhere and got it patched, not plugged.

thinking of trading in for a model 3. Insurance questions

That is F*ed up. I would never buy a car if that was the cost of insurance. After about 8 years, your insurance paid would be more than the car, assuming 10-20% increase per year. There are so many factors fir insurance, but I pay $1187 for 12 months in New York metro area. 250/500 with $1k...

    What's the best Wh/mi you've seen?

Less than 2000 miles in a 6 month span? You need to drive more ;-) Although I can't dis you too much as since I have been working from home, I am less than 5k per year. My May 2019 M3LR just hit 20k.

    Do I have Premium Connectivity?

Tesla is very slow to react. I had free supercharging for 5000 miles or 6 months, whichever came first. Turns out it took them over 8 months to stop it. My premium connectivity also went well past the 1 year mark. So don't get excited and think they forgot about you if you still have it February...

    Do I have Premium Connectivity?

Does the streaming music work? When I got my car, I like many others thought premium connectivity was lifetime, as I was told that. Three months after I received my car, Tesla now only gave one year of premium and they anti-grandfathered it away from the people who had it. Ok, no big deal, so I...

    Electricity Cost Spikes

Might be cheaper to go to a supercharger, unless the SC are higher in MA also.
  13. garth_angst

What is the "Streaming" app, exactly?

You don't, it should just be already set when you get the car. I don't know how it is done now, but when I got my car in 2019, Slacker was included and was told it is just a "tesla account." You cannot know the login, although previously, people were given the login from Tesla if they asked, but...
  14. garth_angst

What is the "Streaming" app, exactly?

No, the Tesla account is proprietary. Making a free account will not carry over anything to the Tesla and you cannot even login in the Tesla with the free account. At least that's the way it was with Slacker.

Energy Costs - My co-op installing chargers that are 50c kWh

This chart is usless. New York rates vary from 12 cents per kWh to 27 cents per kWh. Average is useless when the spread is huge.

Energy Costs - My co-op installing chargers that are 50c kWh

Wow, I thought my 0.27/kWh on Long Island was high, but .50 might be higher than Hawaii!

Is it possible to get 250 miles on the interstate with a 2022 M3P?

The everchanging rates have been updated again. My local supercharger is no longer 27 cents 24/7. It is now 34 cents off hours and 48 cents peak. Oh well, home charging it is.
  19. garth_angst

Is it possible to get 250 miles on the interstate with a 2022 M3P?

My home rate is a tad under 27 cents per kWh. The supercharger closest to my house has 24/7 rate of 27 cents per kWh. I get no savings at home in my case. All other superchargers nearby are 27 cents off peak and 54 cents during peak. Ouch!
  20. garth_angst

Is it possible to get 250 miles on the interstate with a 2022 M3P?

Averages mean nothing when they low and high are so far apart. Take an extreme case of the numbers 1 and 1,000,000. The average is 500,000, so far apart from the high and low. One number per state is really meaningless.
  21. garth_angst

Is it possible to get 250 miles on the interstate with a 2022 M3P?

I laugh and HATE that chart. It is way too general. As someone once said to me, "You are in a different New York." Upstate NY may be 12 cents per kWh, but where I am, it is about 27 cents now. I don't know how other states work, but NY has a whole slew of different rates.

    Model 3 Extended Warranty?

Yep, they greased mine when I brought it in for tire replacement. A year later, it was waaaaaay worse that I didn't even want to drive my car. It sounded like some old jalopy and I was embarrassed. This time they replaced both control arms.

PCS_a052 Error when trying to charge on 110V at home

My guess, and I am usually wrong. Extension cord is a no-no, but also is that 110v outlet isolated, as in the only outlet on that circuit. Even charging as low as a 110v outlet, it should not be on a circuit with other possible electricity draws due to the sustained power draw.

Am I Supposed To Be Getting Better Range Than This?

YOUR lifetime stats, but what are the stats for the full 44,000 miles on the car or were they erased? I'm interested to to see if the previous driver was super aggressive or not.

Am I Supposed To Be Getting Better Range Than This?

What is the lifetime Wh/mi? I have driven 16,000 miles in 3+ years (working from home keeps it low) and mine is 225 Wh/mi. Also, that it wanted you to charge so quickly is just finding a place to charge to get you to destination at about 10%, which I never like. I always charge to 80% at stops...

I got my M3 LR AWD in May 2019. At the time, the M3 LR RWD, which they called the MR was available as a special order only. You could not do it on the website, but at a "showroom." Is a RWD / Standard Model 3 ok for a 140 Mile daily commute?

I checked climate for Asheville NC and you might be surprised at how much range you lose November through February. Typically 20%, but up to 40% if you are heavy footed, and who isn't sometimes in a Tesla? You like your job probably, but someone did mention, what if you lose your job or are...

    Charge Point Home Flex feedback

I only mentioned because a friend made his own holder and did not plug it into the unit. Then he got the light (red?) after a few weeks and thought it died. Called ChargePoint and they determined that it not being plugged in caused it to fault. Maybe it was only his case, but it did happen.

    Charge Point Home Flex feedback

You might have a problem not plugging the plug back into the unit. The ChargePoint may fault after a while with I think a red LED light because it doesn't "see" the handle back in the holster. It doesn't happen right away. Can take days, but it may happen. Remember, you heard it here, so you...

Tesla Wall Connector Price Drop to $400 from $495 [04/28/2022]

If you are going for the 100 amp breaker, then maybe. I don't know anything about that, but for 50 amp breaker, which most people do, then I don't see a cost savings with a second mobile connector.
  46. garth_angst

Tesla Wall Connector Price Drop to $400 from $495 [04/28/2022]

Actually, it costs less to install a Wall Connector as with a 14-50 outlet, you will need a good NEMA 14-50 outlet, not a piece of *sugar* from Home Depot. Hardwiring doesn't incur that cost.

    Slow leak in tire

I went back to All Weather. Not leaking from patch. They said there is an issue with the Michelins with foam that they slowly separate down the middle of the tread. I will just deal with until these foam tires come back in stock or I decide to forego the foam and just get the non-foam version.

    Slow leak in tire

Yep, that's what I finally did. It was a very thin nail that was smoothed out by how long it was in there, so I couldn't feel it. Finally found a tire shop that services Tesla's. They patched it (they do not plug). Much better, but still super slow leak. Couple of pounds every month or two...
