My Nightmare Scenario: Auto-Presenting Door into Traffic

So here's a nightmare scenario that got me thinking. I'm wondering whether there are safeguards that would prevent it:

Model X is parallel parked along the curb of a busy street with traffic whizzing by at close range. Auto-present front door is ON. I'm standing on the sidewalk, about to walk around the rear of the car to get into the driver seat. Because the parked car behind me blocks the vision of oncoming traffic, I need to take a few steps off the curb to check for oncoming traffic.

Sensing me behind it, Model X wakes up and auto-presents the door wide-open, just in time for oncoming traffic to clip it as it swings outward.

Are the sensors smart enough to prevent this from happening? Is there a way to prevent it, other than the obvious -- disabling auto-present on a busy street?
