Last weekend we had our maiden voyage towing our teardrop trailer with our Tesla MYP. We camped at a KOA near Glacier National Park so we could bike the Going to the Sun Road before it’s opens to vehicle traffic. It was awesome and we look forward to more adventures with our Tesla and trailer.

The trailer is an Intech Luna Rover. It has a dry weight of 1,700 lbs and a GVWR if 2,200 lbs. It came with off-road tires but we swapped them out for a smaller, lighter set for a lower hitch height and better rolling resistance.

Total distance travelled was 722 kms but only 414 kms was actually towing. We stopped once on the way there to charge at a CCS station. At that point we had travelled 172 km and averaged 306 wh/km. The rest of the charging was a mix of free Level 2 charging at the campsite and in the park and another stop at the CCS station without the trailer. The drive home was 207 kms and we left the campsite with 100% and arrived home with 18% with an average of 280 wh/km. We kept our speed around 95 kmh (60 mph) to achieve that in ideal conditions.

Nice setup. Have you determined your Wh/mi numbers while towing at 55-60mph on a level dry road with no headwind?
Flat level towing with no headwind, we averaged like 525. Our worst was from Inyokern, CA to Tehachapi, CA, 64.7 miles with a 40+mph crosswind for part of the trip, turning into a headwind for the last leg. We used from 100% down to 3%. I believe our average was somewhere in the neighborhood 1200-1300 wh/mi.

What speed was that flat level no headwind towing done at to achieve 525? Thinking about getting this exact camper and extremely curious about efficiency. Thanks so much!
