    Forward screen depiction useless

Like a lot of things Tesla is doing these days, it’s mostly for FSD and being able to tell what the car is thinking and seeing by displaying a blue line of where it’s going to go.

The Good the BAD and UGLY experience Of Cross Country Trip

Definitely use ABRP (you can set arrival minimum charge level and a lot more) and get the plug share app which shows hotels with destination and super chargers which are great on road trips.

Driving my ICE vehicle while Model 3 RWD is on limited duty. Some simple observations…

I had a nail in my MY tire and was leaking. I used my 12v compressor to pump it back up and could drive about 5 miles before getting low again. Turned out I was near a Tesla SC, so pulled in and they got me a new tire in just over an hour with no appointment and was a Friday afternoon. The Tesla...

EMF (radiation) emissions from Tesla batteries

Yeah by far the highest risk for exposure is holding your cell phone next to your head so if you are worried about it don’t use a cell phone. Actually, as it’s more convenient, I use a cell phone stand which also keeps it away from your head. Since EM wave power drops rapidly with distance, even...

What's Up Puget Sound Tesla drivers

I had ABRP give me the same route but during daytime and ok. It’s shorter so that’s what it does. I looked for a “take freeway if possible” selection but don’t see one. I have had this nav problem happen with other route planners like Apple so have learned to always do a sanity check on...

    GFCI

I had a TWC installed last year and it works very well but the electrician installed it on a GFCI breaker and while it worked the first time while he was here, it started tripping later. The Tesla manual states that the TWC has a built in GFCI and says not to put it in a GFCI. Electrician had...

what PSI do you inflate your tires to

I had a flat tire from a nail and I was close to a Tesla service center by chance so I went there and they got me right in and I ended up buying 2 new tires to keep symmetrical. When I got home and they were cold (50f), I checked and they were inflated to 46psi. Door label says 42psi so I let...

Ordered a Used 2021 MY; will I regret not getting a 2022 or later?

I have a 2021 MY and have not had any problems or quality issues. I like having stalks and also has USS sensors which newer ones don’t. Only thing I don’t like is the ride is a bit harsh on potholes. YMMV.

    New member and new owner

I would also recommend downloading “A Better Route Planning” for trip planning and “Plug Share” app for finding free destination chargers.

Finally got my FSD trial - Major school zone issue

Tesla is going to have to do more than just respond to a school sign for Robotaxi. In my case, my neighborhood road comes out to the main road in the middle of a school zone so you have to know it’s a school zone based on map and time of day. If you mess up like my neighbor did you will get a...

    Supercharger - Chemult, OR - US-97 (under construction April 2024, 8 V3 stalls)

Usually the installation of the utility transformer is the main hold up. Can’t see one from the pictures yet. Even then there are several under construction that have transformers for several months. Maybe waiting on inspections or the Tesla sc team chaos to get sorted. I’m just hoping for a...

disable sentry mode at home disables USB drive

I have had the same problem on my 2021 MY starting around March. Seems to be worse with latest update. Does seem to be tied to being parked at home with sentry mode off. Really a pain as seems like would have to reboot everyday or leave sentry mode on which uses like 5% battery a day. Apparently...

    Blue vs White Paint

I like my white car but without a front grill like ICE cars it does show the bugs more than a dark blue.

    Supercharger - Winthrop, WA (speculation)

Destination chargers are great and probably the best we can hope for in out of the way places like Winthrop.

Intermittent loss of USB stick icon and playback/security until reboot

I have had that he USB in the console w music go away several times over the last 4 months including yesterday. V2024.3.25. Sentry mode was off as was at home. Rebooting fixed but a pain especially when happens to wife.

Supercharger - Burley, ID - Pomerelle Ave

Unfortunately, the Tesla site is close to useless. They typically just bump the date to the next year at the start of the year regardless of actual plan. They were giving year and qtr but wrong so often it looks like they gave up. Getting rid of new sc staff going to put out even farther.
  17. bruce4000

Did Tesla really lay off their entire Supercharger staff

So much for the mission statement of transitioning the world to sustainable energy. In the US at least the Tesla sc network is the only decent network and now it’s being dead ended or at least significantly slowed down. Even though it’s not high tech, there is a lot of knowledge in doing...

Local Electric Company wants EV owners to pay for upgrading neighborhood infrastructure.

Funny how nobody made a big deal when air conditioning was rolled out even though AC is used at peak afternoon load and most home ev charging is in the middle of the night when load is low.

Supercharger - Silverdale, WA (under construction Apr 2024, 12 V4)

Finally! Now I’ll be able to quit using EA when headed this way. One of the few places in the US where EA had a lot better coverage.

Garage smoke detectors and home insurance for home charging.

If your EV shares a garage with an ICE car, will the exhaust fumes of ICE set off a smoke detector?

    Supercharger - Ocean Shores, WA (LIVE 10 Oct 2023, 8 V3 stalls)

If you are staying at RV parks with your trailer, you should also be able to charge for no extra cost there. Not sure where you can see all SC prices but they do vary a lot. I just went from Flagstaff to Seattle through California and rates varied from .24 to .44 cents but typically in the mid 30’s.

I regret my Model Y purchase because of seat comfort and seating position problems

Seems to be dependent on the person. I just finished a 3300 mile road trip over 10 days and seats seemed fine in 2021 MY. I also found that TACC and auto steer made a huge difference in feeling less tired.

    Strange issue with USB

Had the USB go away literally the morning I was leaving on a 3k road trip. Don’t know why and had not done a SW update recently. Tried hard reboot, unplug and replug, no luck. Tried another hard reboot a couple of days later and been good since. I also had the right rear camera go black 2k into...

Help with Grand Canyon Road trip

I just did this trip in my 2021 LR MY. Using PlugShare ap, I found that the Best Western Plus at Springdale has 2 slow chargers. We were staying 3 nights anyway so stayed there and nice hotel and location for Zion. Most of the time nobody was charging so no problem using. No cost and no codes...

Electric vehicles release more toxic emissions, are worse for the environment than gas-powered cars: study

One thing that people miss is that an EV built today gets cleaner over time as the grid gets cleaner while IcE cars just get dirtier as they age. Also the batteries can be reused for stationary storage and then recycled. Unlike small batteries, no one is going to throw away a large EV battery

Las Vegas to Grand Canyon - ABRP vs Tesla Trip Planner

One thing to note is that going from Kingman to the GC, you gain like 3000 feet so takes more juice than you would think at first.
  28. bruce4000

    Electric new sales S-Curve

True but if and when EV cost less to purchase than ICE, the transition will happen in most parts of US. Will take longer for big pickups due to battery costs.

How much super charging is considered too much for good battery health

I don’t think it is dependent on how many times a day since battery is liquid cooled. The Nissan Leaf had problems with this as is air cooled so the second time the battery was getting hot and so slowed charge rate. There are lots of Ride Share drivers using Tesla’s and charge several times a...

Driving in a hilly city like SF or Seattle?

Works fantastic on hills. I live at the top of a long hill and I can go down the whole way just adjusting the accelerator and using regen and not the brakes. With my ice car, it keeps trying to run away from you as you have to repeatedly apply the brakes but can’t just leave them on or will...

My Model Y battery loses 2 % each day while it sits in garage, Sentry & Climate are off, what gives ?

After charging in my garage, the charge % can change by a % or two, maybe due to temperature or calibration. However when I go to the airport I leave my MY in my brothers garage with Sentry mode off and will only loose 1 or 2 % in 10 days.

[UK] What we already knew - EV misinformation in press - it’s not gone unnoticed

Model y lfp battery charging habits

The reason to charge an LFP battery to 100% once a week is to allow the Battery Management System to recalibrate. LFP batteries have a more non-linear voltage vs charge curve so harder to determine the battery capacity compared to Nickel li-ion. At the same time, LFP batteries have less...

    Semi General Discussion

    Preparing home for Tesla vehicles

Yeah, I used an installer from the Tesla certified list and while they did a good job replacing my substandard circuit panel, they put the TWC on a GFCI breaker which caused problems tripping / was not necessary as it turns out the TWC has GFCI built in. Otherwise the TWC has been working great...

While cars froze in Chicago, I used hotel charging for a trouble-free 2-week road trip in snowy Utah without superchargers

Hotel charging is awesome. I usually plan my trip by finding hotels on Plug Share ap. Only issue is there are often only one or two at a location. Hoping a lot more are built.

Prediction, in Which Year Will New Electric Vehicle Sales Exceed 50% in the United States "Poll"

    How will Tesla Semi supercharge?

Semi batteries are much bigger so at the cell level, where it counts, a 1MW charger is not harder on batteries than a car at sub 250kW.

    Shorting Oil, Hedging Tesla

The mix of renewables depends on the region you are in. Some places just don’t have viable solar in the winter so wind and transmission lines to other regions may be needed.

First-time Model Y LR home charging woes - Advice needed! (Ceiling outlets & low amp woes)

The car detects the temperature of the mobile connector as a safety measure as a lot of cheap outlets can overheat and cause a fire. Using an extension cord defeats this so not a good long term solution. Also, I would use as short of an extension cord as possible as will have less voltage drop...

Prediction: Coal has fallen. Nuclear is next then Oil.

Nothing new here. The “Texas Railroad Commission” was formed a long time ago to regulate not only Railroads but to limit oil production to put a floor on oil prices.
