    Considering 245/40/19

What’s the load rating on those?

    Considering 245/40/19

They are 98 load rated in XL. Tesla Model Y 19” tires are 104 rated in XL. Going with a bigger tire (also XL) gives you more load capacity. Also, if these are stock 19” Model Y wheels, they are 9.5” wide. 245 tires are too narrow for that.

Koni - Special Active (Red - Formerly FSD) and Sports (Yellow) - Coming Soon for Model 3 and Y

I used a 17mm pass through socket ratchet and a 5mm HEX inside. It is not loose. I know that sound as I’ve had KW V2’s with loose mounts before. I have the KW top hats on order. I’ll report back whenever I get them on.

MPP can order them for you. This is the thread that talks about it. Model 3 front suspension clunking

Koni - Special Active (Red - Formerly FSD) and Sports (Yellow) - Coming Soon for Model 3 and Y

From what I read, it is an issue with the top strut mounts (sometimes called top hats). KW Suspension makes a replacement one that is supposed to eliminate this sound.

I have another thread on here with sounds coming from the shocks. Does your car make the same noise or are you talking about something else?

Bouncing clunk type noise after Koni Special Active Install

That didn’t trigger the noise. I also had a local Tesla shop look at it and put it on the rack. They heard the sound while on a test drive, but couldn’t re-create it in the shop.

Bouncing clunk type noise after Koni Special Active Install

It sounds like something is loose, but I can’t find anything loose and the noise isn’t over all surfaces. For example, I can’t mimic the sound by pushing on any corner of the car or even by jumping up and down in the frunk. Has me thinking it’s an issue internal to the shocks. I am leaning...

Bouncing clunk type noise after Koni Special Active Install

The car is going at most 30kmh (20mph) in the videos and the bumps are pretty shallow. Filled it cracks kind of bumps. Does not feel like bottoming out at all. Oddly enough, if makes none of this noise over train tracks. I don’t see any rubbing marks anywhere. No issues with the rear shocks.

Bouncing clunk type noise after Koni Special Active Install

Car drives really well. Steering is fine. I only noticed it after the front suspension was done. This was a week after the rear suspension was done.

Bouncing clunk type noise after Koni Special Active Install

It doesn’t sound so much metallic. Maybe more wooden sound, but it follows the shock movement. It happens when going straight and when turning. How could I tell if the spring is incorrectly seated? The springs are both seated right against the bottom rubber seat and are in the same indent...

Elon fires the head of SuperChargers and much (all?) of the SuperCharger team - how will this affect new SCs?

Are you assuming free land and no maintenance? Either way, doesn’t seem like much.

Bouncing clunk type noise after Koni Special Active Install

Back at the end of March, I installed Koni Special Active shocks on my otherwise stock 2020 Model Y Dual motor. I have this clunk, bouncing, bump sound over small bumps coming from the front end. I can hear it at low speeds, but this could be because of other noises at higher speeds (not sure)...

About to order 255/50/19 Pirelli Scorpion AS Plus 3 tires (non spec). Any considerations/ other recs?

You need to buy hub centric rings that go from 66.6mm to 64.1mm unless you are saying they are giving you the wrong size hub centric ring that only goes to 66.6mm. If that’s the cases, you can find the correct ones online.

Koni - Special Active (Red - Formerly FSD) and Sports (Yellow) - Coming Soon for Model 3 and Y

Has anyone that installed the special active shocks have any weird sounds over low speed bumps? It sounds like a double bump or knock when I hit a bump in the road around 30kmh/20mph. Doesn’t seem to make that sound any other time. I checked and rechecked all the torques. Nothing was loose...

    Model Y Suspension Advice

You can get the part numbers off of Tesla EPC catalog (just search the web and you’ll find it). They charged $0.50 a piece for the smaller ones and $1.00 a piece for the bigger ones. I would also suggest getting some spares of the upper strut nuts in case you drop them into the abyss.

Koni - Special Active (Red - Formerly FSD) and Sports (Yellow) - Coming Soon for Model 3 and Y

Just got back from the alignment shop. The car drives a lot smoother over crappy roads. It feels more like a normal car now. This is with my 235/55R18 XL104 Nokian Hakka R3 SUV’s on as it’s still winter here. So far, I’m quite pleased with the change. The car is a mid 2020 MYLR with the Koni...

    TPMS on non factory wheels

SL tires don’t change their load rating above 36 psi (or 35 psi on p-metric tires). I have always wondered about running SL tires with the same load rating as XL tires, but don’t have any experience on the issue.
  32. M

    TPMS on non factory wheels

Did you buy SL tires or XL tires? The factory tires are XL 104. If you have 235/55R18 XL tires, they are also 104. You still need 42 psi for that to match the 42psi in the factory tires. Is the an AWD or RWD Model Y?

Koni - Special Active (Red - Formerly FSD) and Sports (Yellow) - Coming Soon for Model 3 and Y

Installed the Special actives on the rear of my 2020 MYLR. Will install the fronts next weekend. So far, they seem to make a big difference smoothing out bumps.

Help me decide on my next tires! (Michelin Cross Climate, Sport Pilot AS, Continental ExtremeContact DWS)

In your scenario, if it required 10% more than the 25% to get there, it would have used 27.5% and you would have still made it. I guess the issue would have been the 70% it took you to get there would have been 77% and therefore you’d only have 27% when you stopped. I was in Quebec City this...

In your scenario, there’s a good chance that you wouldn’t make it anyway, since the battery would cold soak while you were skiing. Are you staying for a few hours or overnight? Are you parking in a garage or out in the cold? If it sunny out? How cold is it? There are many variables. Tires are...
