    Tesla Software updates - Australia

Yeah, it was back to normal this afternoon. Not sure what was going with that function this morning!

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

Ahh. (It definitely did previously work with that setting enabled, because I've had that setting enabled for years).

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

The first detent just seems to act like fully pushing the stalk now - cancelling only if you turn or manually cancel it.
  4. C

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

Installed 2024.14.8 last night, and noticed this morning a change that I hadn't seen anyone mention before: the "short indicate" function (flash indicator 3 times then cancel) that was previously activated by moving the stalk only the first detent has apparently been removed. Which is fine...

    Key Fob availability in Australia

I don't use walk-away-lock myself, but it sounds like it uses a longer distance for locking than for unlocking, which would make sense. You can replicate the experiment I did not long after first getting my Model 3 - lock the car, place the phone somewhere it is still connected by Bluetooth but...

    Key Fob availability in Australia

How close are we talking? Are you aware that for the car to unlock, it's not enough for the phone to be in Bluetooth range (& connected) - the car measures time-of-flight so the phone has to be within about 2 metres of the car to unlock?

    Charging Adaptors 101

If anyone in SA is thinking about installing a Tesla HPWC, you might want to move sooner rather than later, because it seems like you won't be allowed to after July 1: https://www.solarquotes.com.au/blog/ev-chargers-sa-mb2930/

    New Model 3 Performance news

Right up until you accept delivery (which is when the title actually transfers). There have been instances recently of people whose leasing company has already paid Tesla getting the new cheaper pricing applied.

Anybody have direct experience with Amber Electricity?

@Vostok forecast prices also look very mild for NSW this evening (at this point!) so you might even want to go grid powered this evening and save that stored energy for tomorrow.

    Australian Model 3 Waiting Room

There's a Software Updates Australia thread for questions about the updates. A lot of people connect the cars to mobile hotspots to get updates without problems - that's what I do. Weird noises during the updates is normal.

    Charging Adaptors 101

You don't have to enable preconditioning with scheduled departure, it's optional.
  14. C

    Charging Adaptors 101

I recommend using "Scheduled Departure" instead, with "Off Peak charge" enabled - set "off peak end time" for 6am and it'll start charging early enough to finish before 6 (in my experience, it usually finishes about 20-30min before the end time). Charging towards the end of the window means you...

LFP battery - how often is too often to charge?

I wouldn't be surprised, because with the nickel chemistry batteries it appeared that the BMS needed the car to sleep some times to get an accurate read on the cell voltages with the high voltage contactor open.

Tesla still doesn't know about the Rozelle Interchange

The navigation certainly does begin to slow for upcoming turns and roundabouts if you are using TACC. So if the navigation doesn't realise you're in the tunnels, it's best to turn it off.

    Australian Model Y Waiting Room

@kmsyd777 there's a fairly active Novated Leases thread in this forum btw.

    Australian Model Y Waiting Room

The charging cost thing varies - providers are still coming to grips with that (personally, it seems inexcusable the degree to which the NL providers were caught flat-flooted by EVs, considering that being across these sorts of changes in the car market is their day job!). The balloon payment...

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

This might be something that works better on the larger screen in the newer models.

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

In terms of reversing, as far as I can tell there's nothing the rear-facing cameras can see that isn't already shown on the screen when you put it in 'R'. Applying a perspective transform to those images isn't adding any information (and personally I would find it just obscures what's already...

    Powerwall 3 Roadmap - 3 Phase Coming!

The inverter is the part that converts DC to AC, so it would make sense for the inverter limit to apply to the total amount of AC generated, which would be house + export but not including charging (so in your example, 3kW house load + 8.5kW export).
  24. C

Anybody have direct experience with Amber Electricity?

There's no point worrying about the ROI anymore - it's now a sunk cost, so just work on minimising further costs going forward. 18c/kWh seems very good for a flat rate.

Personally I agree that the LR is the sweet spot - I wouldn't go with the P unless I was planning to take it to the track.

    Australian Model 3 Waiting Room

It should go back to the finance or lease company, since if you just get it as cash that's effectively untaxed money. Then they have to figure out how to reduce the cost of the package to suit so you get it back. However, it seems like in the past people have just been quietly getting the...

I use my phone with bluetooth for podcasts (and ebooks).

Anybody have direct experience with Amber Electricity?

The VIC-NSW interconnector was constrained down to zero flow at the time, likely because of transmission constraints in southern NSW that mean the power can't actually get to the big load centres further north. (This is what HumeLink is supposed to fix). Frequently that interconnector runs...

    Evie EV charging networks

It tells you the times and the rates in those same pictures. Variable rates doesn't mean "can change at any time to any price", it just means that the prices vary over the day, but still particular prices apply at particular times.

Adding a Tesla Gen3 Wall Connector as a product in the Tesla App. Why is it

Yes, that's bluetooth and is used to unlock/lock the doors, open/close the boot, drive the car, open/unlock/close the charging port and I think now it can also control charging rate, stop charging and control the climate control. These operations that work directly over bluetooth will work even...

Anybody have direct experience with Amber Electricity?

The AEMO pre-dispatch only has that spike lasting one half-hour period (the prices on either side currently being 30c and 40c) so I would expect it to vanish before then.
  34. C

    Charging Adaptors 101

None of them, because they're all too sozzled to drive.
  35. C

    Evie EV charging networks

That site doesn't have variable pricing yet (the text about variable pricing is just boilerplate that appears on every site, for some reason). Look up the Hornsby site if you want to see how a site with actual variable pricing appears.

Adding a Tesla Gen3 Wall Connector as a product in the Tesla App. Why is it

You do have to add the new phone as a phone key for the car, though.

    It's a plug from the AS/NZS 3123 series, probably 32A.
  38. C

Anybody have direct experience with Amber Electricity?

There's pluses and minuses. NSW can get more of the very high feed-ins, but it also doesn't tend to get the regular strongly negative prices that you mention earlier either.

Australian Model 3 Highland experiences, tips, tricks

The wet towel will actually cool it down, as well - it work because the water wicks onto the towel, giving it a large surface area in contact with the air, and as it evaporates at that water/air boundary the latent heat of evaporation cools the towel and handle down. It's the same principle as...

Tesla Australia WAiting room (Perth WA)

The VIN allocations in the past have appeared to be a somewhat manual process that takes process over a period of days/weeks, so if that is still the case then they might still be allocating VINs on that ship.

Ausgrid changing pricing for electricity grid access

If Amber fully pass this on it would just mean your feed-in value between 10am to 3pm would be 1.2c/kWh lower than otherwise towards the end of the month after you pass the 10am-3pm export threshold. Obviously would need some software work on their end, but after that it's just one more factor...

    Superchargers in Australia

The more usual way to do this is "all positions are spilled, anyone who wants to remain beyond date X must reapply for their job". You don't generally get to go home on a "paid holiday" as you put it, but you don't get separated either: in my experience of this you keep doing "business as...

Tesla only refunded you because the lease company paid an amount that included that $400. Those who purchase the car without a lease don't get the $400 back. It's non-refundable.

It really doesn't seem beyond the bounds of what's possible in contract drafting to create an agreement where the final value can be varied by up to, say, $100 without needing to be reissued and signed - just a notification issued of the final settled value.
