Driving my ICE vehicle while Model 3 RWD is on limited duty. Some simple observations…

I rarely use TACC these days since the make you disable it to enable FSD but it may use a separate stack from FSD and AP. I know in the past FSD seemed to behave better than TACC

    NEW Model 3 Highland review!

Remember - I'm comparing it to a 2020 Model Y! I did test drive a 2024 MY and the suspensions of that car and the M3 Highland were pretty close. The Highland was noticeably quieter, though, and the ventilated seats are also a nice upgrade. The ride and noise levels actually reminded me of my Audi.

it appears your car was not the only one that found the curb!

    NEW Model 3 Highland review!

Good to know about auto shift. Like I said, I've been through enough of Tesla's 'we can do it automatically' escapades to be more than a bit cynical, but if this one works, awesome. I've found switching gears with the stalk to be totally automatic. I don't have to look or even think about it -...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

you certainly don't need it to drive. Since they added the ability to blend the brakes with 1 pedal driving I'll use it in colder weather to try and maximize regeneration but it's not required. My complaint is they had no real need or reason to move it other than to mess with things. Had they...

    NEW Model 3 Highland review!

So thinking about it and the functions handled by the stalks and how they change: Turn signaling - the buttons are convenient only if your hand is in a specific spot on the wheel. They move with the wheel so they're not in a consistent spot. if your hand isn't on the wheel at the 8-9 o'clock...

    NEW Model 3 Highland review!

Not going to - and fortunately I'm more interested in a Model Y than a Model 3, but if I were interested in a Model 3 I'd have to either buy used or buy another make and that's a problem for Tesla. They make a stupid design decision, move away from an interface that has been an industry standard...

    NEW Model 3 Highland review!

So I stopped in a Tesla dealer today and test drove a model three Highland. The suspension lived up to its hype as well as the improved noise reduction measures. The removal of the stalks, however, is a huge negative. Shifting on the screen is cumbersome and worse in every respect. Likewise...

Agreed - it’s almost entirely blocked by my hands. Full screen view is useless, too.

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

I’ve routinely gotten the message at night on dark roads. I suspect what’s happening is it’s dark enough that the camera can’t see anything and the software thinks it’s occluded. When I’ve gotten into lighter areas with more lights it goes away.

    FSD Transfer

I think the comment in the article sums it up: “Until FSD is able to follow through on its promise, transfers should be free for anyone who has bought the software.” I have to wonder if the referenced lawsuits will end up having the effect of allowing transfer until the software is functionally...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

In the last 2 days I’ve driven a total of 92 miles on FSD. Early morning, mid afternoon, rush hour, evening. Residential streets, interstates, state highways and trunk roads. Zero interventions beyond things like changing lanes for personal preference. I’ve actually found little need to hit the...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

So today my car drove home during rush hour - a combination of side roads, trunk roads and interstates with congested traffic. 43 minutes, 22 miles. Exactly zero safety interventions. I think I tapped the accelerator 3 times and used the turn signal to switch lanes on the interstate once. All of...

But...but... waymo cars have LIDAR!!!! they see everything so they can't crash into things like that! Waymo's statement about HD maps is one of the big difference between Tesla and Waymo, if I understand correctly. Tesla is using maps but also using the algorithm to drive whereas Waymo is...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

So with a 2020 MYLR the doors stay the same and the headlights stay the same. My understanding was auto-shift was only for the S/X? Better cooldown would be nice in the summer. (mainly because I never remember to turn on the A/C before I get to may car) So basically I'm not missing anything as...

Last of the Model Y pre-Highland?

Don't know if this is an option but I've already seen retrofit kits to put stalks back in the M3 Highland so I'd expect them to be available for the Juniper as well.

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

no, the main reason is so we can drop the incessant banter about what fork/version people are on, what it means for update status and hypothesizing when will version 12.x drop!
  26. sleepydoc

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

I think V11 started asking all the time and previous versions wouldn't when you were close to your destination. The only problem with that was if you had a disengagement at the end of your drive you couldn't report it. I just ignore the prompt now.

Driving my ICE vehicle while Model 3 RWD is on limited duty. Some simple observations…

Agree with the others on tire shops, but do whatever works for you. If you can be without your M3 while you wait, fine. Re: cruise control, I take it you’re actually talking about autopilot and not just TACC? I’ve never used Honda’s system but I rented a Toyota that had some sort of lane keep...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

I had another fail/disengagement on my way home this morning. I was approaching a stoplight to make a right turn. An ambulance was approaching from the opposite direction, turning left in front of me. The stoplight was red and FSD just stopped, then started to proceeded like a normal right turn...

No, every new version is the newest they’ve ever made. There are plenty of examples of new versions of software that are worse than those that they replaced.

watching the video, the car starts to move before the flagger even changes his sign or makes any other indication; I wonder if the car was simply stopped because it saw cars then started to proceed when the coast was clear rather than based on a cue from the flagger directing traffic

I can't remember the first episode well enough but in the most recent case it had been on the freeway for some time and should have switched over long before it happened. Now, if there are issues with it switching causing delays, etc, that may play into it. No way of knowing though.

I've had a couple similar incidents with V12. It's strange because prior to this merging on the highway (and in general) has been quite good. Both my incidents were also on the highway which supposedly still uses the V11 stack. 🤷‍♂️

Properly adjusted mirrors are also excellent for eliminating the blind spot. Most people have their mirrors turned too far in so they double cover behind the car and miss the blind spot. I have my mirrors adjusted so they pick up where the rear view mirror leaves off. As the car leaves the field...

I routinely have it start beeping at me when I'm looking to the right or left, watching for traffic before a turn. And given the amount of time Alan seems to be looking at the regen bar you'd think he'd be getting beeped at left and right! The algorithm ain't too smart.

agreed - there is no shortage of inconsistent practices by Tesla service (and Tesla itself) so it's hard to tell if something's an official Tesla policy vs just a service tech being nice.

Except most of the people talking about Robotaxis are doing it more troll off of Elon's tweets than anything else. The majority of people here don't want a robotaxi, they just want a competent L3 or L4 system. there's a difference.
