Thoughts on buying a used Model 3 from Hertz?

If you're in a position to take advantage of the tax advantages this is an absurdly good deal

New EPA calculated range for 2024. LR is now 335 miles

Well if it's configured correctly I'm stumped - it just seemed really odd to me that it woul dbe displaying the exact rating you get with 22's

Yeah I'm saying the car may be configured wrong in the submenus

What Would Compel You To Upgrade to a Future Model X?

This is actually far more annoying than the back doors. Which are also annoying. Until you need shade/to stand up while doing something in the back seat, or load something really awkward/long into the back, then they're awesome Also annoying is the total lack of proper weather sealing around...

New EPA calculated range for 2024. LR is now 335 miles

If it's on 22" wheels it doesn't have 335 miles of EPA range. It has 322 miles of estimated range when new. Which is the best it will ever be, and will go down over time, which is in all of the information in the manual if you read it. Unless they've changed something, you can make a new X...

    Thoughts on Model X

If you can get everyone on board with the weirdness, it's an incredibly good tool for the job. Flexible, large inside but midsize (under 200" long) outside, with access to home charging it's a really compelling product when you look at what you can get for the price. The doors are really...

People who don't buy because of "charging time"

I did a ~320 mile round-trip road trip yesterday in ~35 degree temps in my 3.5 year old, 45,000 mile, worth $10 and a bag of chips Model X. I had to stop for 10 minutes on the way back from my destination. Barely had time to finish lunch in the car What a POS

Quietest and best riding 22" tire for 2018 MX?

I'm sure a more elegant solution could be fabricated but I keep just using a chunk of card stock lol

Sad about Plaid? Attention past or present Porsche 911 Owners!

I loved the way Taycan drove and hated getting in and out of it, and I'm not very big. If you can origami yourself in and out of one, they're a great option IMO as is the Etron GT now that used ones are semi-reasonable. Even the Etron SUV/Q8Etron is a great package, so long as you don't need...

New EPA calculated range for 2024. LR is now 335 miles

My late-2020 build LR+ peaked at 375 miles of "dashboard" range at 100%, when it had around 7000 miles on it (factory rating of 371, lol yeah right). It's down to 347-348 on the dash now. Basically useless now can barely get to work :D
  12. R

Weak Regenerative Braking - Range loss in hilly terrain

Exactly. You'll still get reduced regen even without an alert on the dash. I believe these cars will do up to 100kw? I stop seeing the regen reduced dashed line when it will get to the 50kw mark

Dog owners -- anyone have a VarioCage in the cargo space?

I always recommend my dogs sit or lay down in the car rather than stand, I keep handing them a safety card like they have on airplanes with pictographs to explain how not to die, but they keep eating it

Supercharger failure - Oak Brook Mall (dead Teslas?)

If there are people at Tesla doing AAR's they certainly aren't doing it across the board and/or with any input from customers. autowipers team I'm looking at you But I think the charging team is probably the most successful of everyone - it's the one aspect of the brand people actually seem to...

Supercharger failure - Oak Brook Mall (dead Teslas?)

With wider adoption, it has become clear that the average EV owner is about as good at understanding their vehicle and its needs as the average car owner was before wider EV adoption I bet I could have sold a lot of blinker fluid up there last weekend

Is the Model S worth it over the Highland M3?

I'm not talking about mods, I'm talking about why some cars ride better than others, and why that's not just because air suspension. You can set your watch to people showing up in every "which car" thread chirping about how if only Model 3 had air suspension it would ride well enough to be a...

  19. R

Is the Model S worth it over the Highland M3?

Model 3's ride isn't worse because it doesn't have air suspension - it has low-cost, lower-quality, non-adaptive dampers, specified and priced so that they'll be "good enough" for a car that sells almost half a million units per year. And then they make you jack the air pressure in the tires up...

Weak Regenerative Braking - Range loss in hilly terrain

Did you start it from dead cold without preheating? I've noticed occasionally in winter (on my 4th winter with this thing) if I haven't preheated I'll only get about 40kw of regen, which isn't enough on a steep grade, until the battery is all the way warm, and the car won't necessarily tell...

Thoughts on buying a used Model 3 from Hertz?

many of my cars have been driven like they were stolen from a rental company for some of their lives, and have a combined close to a million miles over many different kinds of vehicles, and none of them has caught fire or stranded me Send it

Thoughts on buying a used Model 3 from Hertz?

I say go for it. Worst case, you have to fix it out of warranty. That's a pretty good worst case, and it's the case that I have been driving almost all of my fancy expensive (when new) used cars in for almost all of my life The warranty period isn't a magic forcefield that prevents failures...

Prediction: Model X price will be reduced to $78K in January 2024

Same here - for my own personal use I loved the 3 RWD, did not like either trim of Y I drove, and liked the S/X more than either as a family vehicle, as did the family. But I don't want another one after living with one for 3 years, and neither does the family. It's fine, and we use it a lot...

    Need guidance: 2020MX Brake Job

That's pretty reasonable for a brake job on a set of brakes of this size/fixed calipers with labor included. DIY would probably cut the cost in half. If there are pad wear sensors, those are probably $20 or so and if they're not tripped yet can be reused assuming they don't fall apart during...

Should I get rid of my LR for a Plaid?

Shame too, because I love it otherwise. Was hoping maybe the roofline was different enough on the wagon, but nope, same problem. Bonk. And I'm not even that big

Should I get rid of my LR for a Plaid?

I knew I didn't want a Taycan as soon as I tried to sit down in one and bonked my head. How did they manage to make a car that big that small

Sad about Plaid? Attention past or present Porsche 911 Owners!

I have a biased opinion because I bought my X when it was $80k base in fall of 2020 and not $800k base or whatever the hell it was in 2022 lol and now I can say I have the only vehicle that has both been used to transport astronauts to the launchpad AND named after the re-animated corpse of a...

Sad about Plaid? Attention past or present Porsche 911 Owners!

At the original price, it looked hella scammy - but I also don't blame tesla for capturing the "Dealer markup" profits for itself. Go for it if you can get it! And that's coming from somebody who recognizes how nuts it is that the *slow* version of the Model S runs 10.9's in the 1/4 and would...

Sad about Plaid? Attention past or present Porsche 911 Owners!

Plaid is coming up on 3 years old. - circa 40% depreciation in 3 years and ~30,000 miles of driving for an American luxury car that isn't some sort of super-bespoke limited edition, and Plaid definitely is not that, used to be pretty standard. This isn't just EV's either, all the fancy stuff is...

Sad about Plaid? Attention past or present Porsche 911 Owners!

I don't know about a 3500lb 993, maybe with three of your closest, most-foldable friends in it - but at least you can have a 6-pack of SR+'s for the cost of one reasonably good condition non-turbo 993 lol But I agree about the dynamics of the original SR+. It's what ultimately sold me on Tesla...

    HELP!! 2023 MXP_7000MLIES_UI_a020 - Steering Assist Reduced.

On my pre-refresh X (which uses the same steering rack I believe, unless they've changed things since this summer to see if they'd changed parts from legacy to palladium cars) this code was happening intermittently and ended up being a failed steering rack, replaced under warranty (which on my...

Will Tesla Buildup Superchargers to Accommodate Anticipated Demand from Ford, GM, Rivian, and whoever else, Adopting NACS circa 2024/2025?

Charger congestion is also Tesla’s fault selling cars with *insert period of time* FUSC. We all thought that was over and then it keeps happening. Wonder how many cars they sell in Q4 or at the end of any quarter with FUSC perk kicked in…it has to be a lot But we have plenty in STL - it’s...

Reuters: "Tesla readies revamped Model 3 with project 'Highland' -sources" [projected 3rd quarter 2023]

Fog lamps don't have to be separate lamps - plenty of vehicles have a fog lamp integrated in the main headlamp assembly, some Porsches, old VW's, Mercs etc. If it's done right, which there's no guarantee Tesla does anything right The extra inch is 100% bumper covers. Looks like interior...

2016 Model X in 2023? A few questions before I pass the event horizon.

Yes - if you're on the highway for sure. I think towing at city speeds has its own set of risks, but moment arm and mechanical advantage the trailer has over the car are the big ones there, and of course, you might be more likely to bend your frame in any evasive maneuvers above the weight...

2016 Model X in 2023? A few questions before I pass the event horizon.

The fun police are everywhere, beware Uhaul car hauler is Circa 2200lb. That year of Dakota without a drivetrain, probably 3000 or so So clearly you have died and are a ghost, because model X is only rated at 3500 on the 22’s, and so you died from towing that load Happy Halloween

Another Direct Model X vs. Rivian Comparison: My Personal Experience

Maybe Tesla would consider upgrading its hand controls to include some sort of lever to shift and/or operate wipers and turn signals to better compete with 3-rows from other companies, maybe as part of an option package or subscription? Dunno just thinking of things to try, don't even know what...

Suggestion on Model X LR vs Model Y Performance buying
