    Values dropping for used Teslas

No surprise here. All used car prices have dropped significantly but with EVs the new ones have also significantly dropped in price. Remember in 2022 (I think) a Model 3 LR was like 85k CAD. Now it's like 61k. I bought my M3P for ~75k in 2021, now the same car is 6k less new for the updated...

Model 3 Performance (Highland) - Now available in Canada

I sure hope not. I see the estimated range is down about 30 km from the previous one.

Model 3 Performance (Highland) - Now available in Canada

The new Model 3 Performance, despite the rumours about it being called Ludicrous or whatever, is apparently now available to order in Canada for $69,990: https://www.tesla.com/en_ca/model3/design#overview I have a 2021 M3P. Probably will be looking to upgrade since the Highland has a quieter...

Will the free FSD trial convince you to purchase FSD?

You can't take your hand off the wheel either. Driving is less stressful and less tiring with an assistance program such as this. If you are driving a long distance, you will be less exhausted when you arrive. I already find that just with Autopilot. And with the subscription you don't have to...

Will the free FSD trial convince you to purchase FSD?

$99/month makes FSD way more appealing. My experiences with it in the city are meh at best but if I was going on a road trip, would be worth grabbing it.
  7. B

Will the free FSD trial convince you to purchase FSD?

I've tested this more and it is just so not ready for prime time. It makes a million little mistakes. It drives unnaturally. Stops are not smooth. It would fail any drivers exam for certain. I feel bad for people that have actually purchased this. The years and years of hype are still not...

Will the free FSD trial convince you to purchase FSD?

hey friend. This is the Canada subforum. Everything costs more! It's actually $16k now
  9. B

Will the free FSD trial convince you to purchase FSD?

It convinced me to not buy FSD. It's good, but it's not perfect, and I am sorry but I need my driver to be perfect. It doesn't need to lane change into the parking lane and stuff for $15,000

Alberta imposing $200 EV tax starting in 2025

This is always the argument and it is poor for more than one reason. The "road tax" is just a tax that goes into general revenue. It's not actually used for roads exclusively, nor is/was it ever enough to cover the costs of roads. EVs, especially right now, cost more upfront than an ICE car...

  12. B

Gen 3 wall connector LED brightness

go to your favourite online store and search for light dimming stickers. You can put these over and LED and make them much dimmer so they don't annoy you. I use them on my cable boxes.

Need to replace my all season and snow tires , what are folks using in Canada?

I use X-Ice snow and am very happy with them. I still have my original Pirelli summer tires so no recommendation there sorry.

    M3P: Trade or sell?

I prefer to trade because it's so much easier, plus I don't have to deal with idiots wanting to "test drive". With a M3P you will probably get a lot of people that only want to floor it and then walk away. Plus, as others have said, the trade value goes against the total tax you will pay on the...

Canadian winter - best practices for preconditioning battery for best efficiency?

That does exist. You don't need Tesla to do it. You can go into service and run the test yourself.

First time buyer looking for advice: Used M3P

Not sure how it works in Alberta but if you bring a car from out of province I imagine you would also have to pay for a safety inspection, so that's added cost on top of the travel and the drive home and the time off etc. A local dealer also has a reputation to protect whereas a private sale...

What snow chains are suitable for Model 3 2023 Long Range? Tesla says no recommendation for summer tyres..

I am far from Australia but I guess I am surprised you are thinking about snow chains. Why would you not get snow tires? Do people use chains a lot there in the winter?

It takes a lot of energy to preheat the battery in the morning, maybe I shouldn’t?

If I am going on a long trip it is worth it. If I am just doing city trips it is 100% not worth the wasted power. I'll precondition a few minutes just to get the cabin warmed up for short city trips. You'd be spending dollars in power to save pennies in regen.

    371 Wh/km (600 Wh/Mile) consumption in the deep freeze

Probably not enough information to make this kind of assessment. We can all agree that a dual motor can generate more heat, but that doesn't mean a LFP RWD is useless in the cold. Would really need some scan my tesla data to see what kind of cell temps it is able to get to. There's one less...

    A new potential buyer

The FSD is definitely not worth the huge price tag. The base autopilot is really good. I would not get the Yoke especially now that it's an almost $1400 price increase for some reason. Some people like it but inevitably it is going to be a pain some of the time. Around town it looks very awkward.
  22. B

    A new potential buyer

Don't let this stop you, but you won't be getting 530 km on a charge. My Model 3 is rated for over 500km and on a good day on the highway I can get 400km. I also went into the purchase thinking that even in winter 30-40% range loss would still leave me with enough range, but it's 30-40% off of...

    371 Wh/km (600 Wh/Mile) consumption in the deep freeze

Most people do have block heaters here and they have to use them when it gets this cold. My last 2 cars that did not have block heaters were both BMW 335i sedans and BMW stopped providing block heaters for some reason. They do provide a trickle charger for the battery and I would plug that in...

    371 Wh/km (600 Wh/Mile) consumption in the deep freeze

l ask myself the same thing every year when it's this cold. Why do I live here? Never came up with a good answer yet. I have to run full winters. It's way too much snow and ice for all seasons.
  25. B

    371 Wh/km (600 Wh/Mile) consumption in the deep freeze

My last two cars did not have block heaters, which was frustrating when it was cold. The Telsa is a million times better in the cold for heat and comfort and it always starts (as long as it has power left obviously). Even if I do not precondition, I get heat within minutes. It's WAY better...

    371 Wh/km (600 Wh/Mile) consumption in the deep freeze

No regen at all, and this is one of the things that seems to have changed (for the better). In paster winters the heat pump would work super hard to keep the cabin warm and warm the battery. Now if I start my journey with regen (preconditioned in my garage which isn't heated but is a lot warmer...

    371 Wh/km (600 Wh/Mile) consumption in the deep freeze

I do have winter tires and I have experienced this, but since they added all wheel Regen in the 2022 Christmas update it's been fixed for me since I have a performance model and therefore dual motors. It's also flat here. I'm not sure how the downhill would be especially with a RWD model only...

Sask! This has been a mild winter but this last week has been brutal!
  29. B

    371 Wh/km (600 Wh/Mile) consumption in the deep freeze

Real cold snap here. Like really cold. Saturday was -36°C and was like -52°C with the wind chill. If you ever wondered how a Model 3 can handle the cold - it does VERY WELL! Today was a balmy -32°C when I left for work and -28°C when I left the office. This is my 3rd winter with the Model 3 so...

    Big decision....

Wow that's a lot of km! Reading the National Post and I would have thought that EVs can only go about 30,000 km before needing to go to the landfill! All jokes aside, if I was in your situation I would probably trade it in. A Model Y would be very nice and then you get warranty again, although...

    Upgraded heat pump?

This is the recall: https://wwwapps.tc.gc.ca/Saf-Sec-Sur/7/VRDB-BDRV/search-recherche/detail.aspx?lang=eng&mk=14602&mkName=TESLA&md=MODEL%203&fy=0&ty=9999&ft=&ls=0&sy=0&syName=All%20Systems&all=0&rn=2022043&cf=SearchResult&pg=0 I believe I got a letter about this in the mail.
  32. B

    Upgraded heat pump?

There was a recall in Canada and USA for this issue on my 2021 in early 2022, however my heat pump self destructed in January 2022 and was replaced under warranty. No issues since and it gets down to -40°C here.

anyone tried tesla's snow chain during winter?

With the tiny bit of ground clearance there is no need for snow chains in Toronto. If you have that much snow you are going to get high centered anyway. Chains would be for people that live in the mountains where the grade is steep enough that they need that extra bit of traction. If you are in...

Tesla won't ship or mobile service winter tires???

The TPMS are here: https://shop.tesla.com/en_ca/product/tire-pressure-monitoring-system Don't buy wheels from Tesla unless you love spending money. Get a set from a tire shop. The only thing you will probably need to provide is the TPMS sensors because Tesla uses a bluetooth one. Another...

First Long Road Trip Model 3

Once you get a few trips under your belt you will see how much faster the car charges in the bottom 50% compared to the top 50%. It's always fastest to just charge enough to get to your next stop. Your trip isn't too long though so one or two stops will likely be enough.

    L14-30 Garage Outlet

I would switch that receptacle to a Hubble NEMA 14-30. As @RayK said Leviton isn't well-known for reliability and there are many, many reports of their receptacles failing when they deal with the strain of max-amperage draw for 8-10 hours that EVs demand. A 30A is plenty for charging, and I'll...

    NEW Model 3 Highland review!

This is the Model S Yoke but the wheel will be the same. Right scroll wheel press turns on cruise control
  39. B

    NEW Model 3 Highland review!

There will still be a fan to blow air through the seats, but that air will not be cooled by AC directly. It will just be cabin air. I think ventilated seats (with a fan) are still a nice upgrade over what we have now.

    NEW Model 3 Highland review!

I don't know why people defend this but again, Tesla is CHOOSING to provide misleading information. They aren't picking the "formula that provides the worst stats" They are picking the formula that provides the results that are furthest from reality in order to boost sales. There are plenty of...

    NEW Model 3 Highland review!

There are still indicator buttons. They just are on the steering wheel and not the stalk. You are getting confused with the other stalk which is used to put the car in drive/reverse and used with cruise control. Drive/Reverse is now automatic or able to be chosen manually on the screen. Cruise...

    NEW Model 3 Highland review!

This thread probably doesn't need to devolve into how Tesla is the worst offender on overstating range, but the numbers from the EPA can be done with 2 different tests. Tesla chooses the set of tests that gives them the highest, most unrealistic number, and publishes those. Pretty much every...

    NEW Model 3 Highland review!

No argument here other than all of that could and should be done with a heads-up display. That's the feature that's actually missing. Would allow them to keep the minimalist dash. I am kind of surprised it didn't show up.
  44. B

    NEW Model 3 Highland review!

I am very against the yoke but I think the stalk thing is not a huge issue. Glad to see the horn is back where it should be unlike the Plaid where it's a capacitive button (for now). There's a lot I thought I would not like about my M3P but after owning it for 2.5 years I don't even know why I...

    Daytime running lights

Well I'll be damned. With all of the imported cars I see driving around (especially Japanese ones that are right hand drive and a huge safety risk in Canada) I didn't think there was really anything to do on an imported car but I guess you are right it DOES indeed need to have daytime running...
