My experience is… it’s actually safe behind big trucks. It’s when passing them on their sides they tend to kick up stuff. I always try to pass on their driver side quickly. Good thing our cars are pretty quick.

I look forward to the day when Tesla Vision has incoming rock detection and will auto use wiper blades to deflect rocks. Imagine that feature.

Thanks! I got my box in November 2020, so I'm sure your box should be able to adjust to fit. I got 220 miles from 100% down to 10%, so I would say that's workable on road trips.

Glossy vs. Matte finish is what I can see. They’re marketing the grand tour with a premium finish that matches our “premium Tesla” :P

Look up Yakima manual on how to adjust the clamp position. Mine is the same clamp and fully clamped on with the rear hatch fully able to open.

Trailer is not convenient to drive around. Especially on road trips when you need to super charge. There are chargers designed to work with trailers, but very few out there.

The Tesla rack mounting points are fixed. The only adjustments are the Skybox clamp positions. Just adjust it to allow rear hatch to open fully then you’re set.

There must be a newer version of the skybox 16 clamp. I got my box in November 2020 and it fits my Model Y with Tesla rack perfectly.

Skybox 18 is only about a foot longer. Look at my posted photo with the skybox 16. That’s the position where it allows rear hatch to open fully. So it’ll overhang the front by one foot. I doubt it’ll affect the front camera as it’s looking forward, not upward.

Post some efficiency numbers. I’ll be interested if it’s more aerodynamic. Btw, I’m still not sure why the Skybox didn’t fit for you. Oh well.

My first 1000+mile road trip for the Skybox 16. On highways, I set AP to 70-75 mph and occasionally passing people at 80-90+. This is on Performance with 19 inch Gemini wheels/tires. Not the most efficient, but enough to make a single leg 220 mile drive (95% down to 10%)

Skybox 16 best bang for the buck IMO. It’s not a flashy box, but that also means easy cleaning and scratch free.

Skybox 16 on OEM racks. No issues on the clamps after 400+ miles. (Highway 349 wh/mi, ouch) I do hear the cabin wind noise more but nothing that’ll make you hate it. Extra storage is always nice.

Tesla shop rack is the only minimalist rack available. It’s made by Yakima.

I just did a trip from Bay Area to SoCal. 70-80mph via I-5. Made a 30min stop at Kettleman and Tejon. Arrived OC around 35%.

I just did a 130 mile trip with 1 mtb on the back. It showed 333 wh/mi. It’s all highway and I’m cruising at 70-75 mph. I guess that’s livable.

What were your numbers with the roof rails and the bikes?

CA 9% tax sounds better than VA.

I wanna test out shoving my 1 bike in the roof box and see what I can get.

How's your wh/mi with the bike on it? I did a 27 mile test 90% highway and got 350 wh/mi (MYP + 2 bikes on 1up super duty)

Nice! My Model Y Performance did 2 bike hitch rack (1up usa) and got 350 wh/mi on a 27 mile short test. (mostly 65-75mph highway). I'm probably a bit too heavy on the pedals.

They delivered my car at 69%. I’m reading that they should delivery at 80%+ of “full charge”, but I really can’t complain about the number.

Honda Accord/Civic was probably the best car to ever own before the Model Y/3 came out.

Yep, my pick up date is this weekend and only $750 now. The last day to get $1500 was 11/1 :( I'm gonna have to do some doordash with the MYP to make it back.

If you're out east, that seems to be the case. Our west, we're getting the last few 2021 vins.

Some of us didn't get the tow package for actual towing. With that 2" hole in the back, you can attach many kinds of bike/ski racks, boxes, etc.. Maybe occasionally tow a uhaul trailer to move large items.

Yeah it’s both good and bad with Tesla’s minimalist communication. I would prefer a minimal interaction sales experience, but could use some babysitting in fulfillment and post sales. But, if that means more increase in prices, I can skip it :)
