FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

    Can anyone confirm this? If I’m on a 3-digit freeway it’ll have v11, otherwise it’s v12?
  2. dachshund

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

I'm keeping my hands on the wheel. Putting a little pressure on it when it veers back and forth seems to avoid the nags. I'm ready to disengage for dicey situations. I'd love to be able to look around and daydream, but that's when it will screw up. Murphy's law.

    What is torque lock, please?

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

It doesn't do well on freeway lanes where cars merge from both the offramp and onramp. On a recent drive, FSD was going to merge into a gap going to the offramp but I could see a car entering the freeway headed for that gap. I disengaged. I assume this is still the freeway code.

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Exactly. It's as if some people actually believe what Elon says. It will still be L2, which by definition requires driver supervision. But we'll still have to scroll by all the complaints from people who are offended by his false promises. They aren't promises, folks.

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Merging into exit lanes while people are merging into the same lane from an on-ramp.
  7. dachshund

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Blocked roads, speed limit signs, picking the correct lane ahead of turns.

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

I get these while driving manually. I mean, I’m steering and it’s screaming. I can’t imagine why they’re happening, but it only started around v12.3.4. So a couple of weeks ago. In general there are way more freak outs from the robot with v12.
  9. dachshund

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

It seems to me that FSD will probably stay at the L2 level for some time. With regular improvements, I'm tempted to think we're getting closer to L3 or L4, and I think this is where a lot of irritation comes from. I think Tesla wants to have it both ways by making robotaxi claims when the system...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

I tried disengaging by jerking the steering wheel slightly. The robot shrieked and gave errors about the speed being too high and said something about a steering problem. It refused to disengage, and continued to do loud beeping. The blue stripe finally turned gray and the beeping stopped...

Full FSD Free Trial: Why I'd never buy it . . . ever.

Uh huh. I think we probably won't put AI back in the bottle. I mean, we probably should, but come on. Yes, Teslas are luxury fluff, and... Someone else take this. Next.

Full FSD Free Trial: Why I'd never buy it . . . ever.

A couple of my friends tried it, and as expected, hated it. I hated it, too, initially. Something else is driving my car. It's counterintuitive. I was a complete skeptic, I thought it was illegal to put robots on the road, etc. The automatic updates are a mixed bag. You're driving and suddenly...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

I'm sorry but it sounds like you just need to learn how the software works. This seems similar to the problem of having cruise control active and forgetting, and being surprised that the car doesn't slow down. As far as warning you about something you didn't do...

Full FSD Free Trial: Why I'd never buy it . . . ever.

FSD is designed for safety. How else would this software ever be acceptable to a wide market? Glad you've made up your mind. I'm a senior citizen and I'm glad the software is designed to avoid hitting people.

    Tesla in crisis?

Elon seems to have a massive ego and will take the company wherever he wants. Wanting full automation is right on par with the state of technology right now, so I'm not the least bit surprised he wants the robotaxi. Hasn't he claimed that we'll all be safer if everyone is using automated cars...

    FSD now $8,000. Who's buying?

Same here. The main feature of my model Y is that it's the most comfortable driving experience I've ever had, even with the road bumps. Wrap-around glass, one-pedal driving, big display, good sound system, plenty of range. Yeah, I'm a bit shocked they dropped FSD so much, but that's par for the...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

I think my car could become a robotaxi only because Elon says so. Experience shows that his predictions are puffs of smoke, but this is what I get from all this: the goal of robotaxi, plus constraints from the law, will put the emphasis on safety. If you don't like the creep up to the stop sign...

Regret purchasing FSD after the Ver 12 "upgrade" being crammed down my throat

I'm a bit slow, but now I understand the issue. 🙄 I used the TACC regularly. With the scroll wheel I could control speed. Then one day the steering wheel was stiff, the big blue line was there. Hmm. When I got home I read up on it and realized they combined lane centering. Next drive I tried it...

Regret purchasing FSD after the Ver 12 "upgrade" being crammed down my throat

I don't get the "not available" complaint. Is v12 less able to circumvent certain areas suddenly, or are people trying FSD for the first time and discovering it's not available everywhere? I used to object to FSD since I found it unsafe in earlier versions. I definitely think Elon is arrogant...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

There's some advantage from the cameras seeing more than I can see, in terms of pedestrians. But I agree that we have a sixth sense from years of experience. I'm surprised the FSD does as well as it does on crowded freeways. Regarding the speed oddities with the latest v12, how do we expect...

Why am I seeing ads from other auto makers that encourage no monitoring of vehicle while driving?

I noticed that ad as well. Wha?? But the ad doesn't say anything about the limitations. But good for Mercedes. It's a nice looking interior, I have to say. I know Elon's statements are always suspect, but it's clear he wants the robotaxi, and I expect FSD will keep getting more cautious...

New Jersey State to Ask EV Buyers To Pay 4 Years of Registration Up Front

That sounds like a lot, but we are skipping the taxes paid when buying gas. In California I expect an extra fee will be added to the annual registration for EVs.

FSD 12 perspective from a previous skeptic

Got it, thanks. I just disengage until I get past the turn it wanted, then turn it back on. I'll try to notice alternate routes. I live in an over-55 community and I've started some fun discussions about the v12 FSD. There are many Teslas owners, and some people have the free trial. I start...

FSD 12 perspective from a previous skeptic

I'm another senior citizen hoping the FSD will help with night driving, reaction time. I have a 2023 MY, camera-only, and ordered FSD with the car because my neighbors said it was useful. Last year it still wasn't reliable enough and was nervous making. To me this is a huge benefit: he cameras...

    I'm actually shocked at V11.3.4

I've had V11 installed for a while but one camera died. 🙄 Just had the service done, new camera, and WOW! With a 2023 / no USS model it could suddenly see my garage door! And be careful what you ask for, with a very small garage, it went from a flickering image of a truck (the door) to now major...

Anti-EV comments heard on my roadtrip so far

I don't have an informed opinion, but it will be interesting to see this unfold. The idea of a huge semi driving autonomously is kind of scary, maybe because my FSDb can be scary sometimes and I feel that it has a long way to go. Given my choice of avatar, I think the Tesla semi is quite an...

    FSD 11.3.2 on the Highway

Bob, I'm curious if your car did this behavior before the new beta s/w? I ask because my car has been a pretty bad child on FSDb, and given that Teslas all behave differently I expect mine will continue to be a brat with the new software. I have to keep a firm grip on the steering wheel, but...

    Older Tesla owners

Still in my 60s, finally got a MYLR in December. I still enjoy driving and the Tesla is fast and fun! The one-pedal driving really improves my ability to control speed. I always drove sporty sedans but we had a Subaru Forester for a while and I realized the higher seating position would be much...

After 5-weeks, I turned FSD Beta off!

That's your contribution to the topic? Nothing about the fact that DWtsn's car swerved hard into traffic? And off the freeway at 80? I guess it's hard to imagine this type of sudden, hard steering if you've never experienced it. Mine jerked the steering wheel into the next lane once - hard -...

Done with Tesla Model Y Performance after 2000km

Interesting to see the three German offerings. I’m surprised that I don’t care for any of them, style wise. It’s as if they used a different design firm for their EVs. That BMW does not look like a BMW. I prefer the model Y, and also the look of ICE BMW & Audis I’ve owned.

    FSD Beta v11.x

AI Driver has several videos on V11. Also, Whole Mars Catalog. V11 looks very good! The speed limit thing is still.. a thing. Apparently the speed limit change - to reach the new speed limit faster - is a bit of a pain when the speed limit jumps around. I think it was AI Driver who showed...

    FSD Beta Disappeared

Sometimes weird stuff on the display will straighten out overnight after the car sleeps. All of my charging options disappeared the other day, which the reboot didn't fix. They were back the next day. Sometimes the car just needs to sleep. 🙄

Discussion: HW.4 Suite - Availability, retrofit, suitability etc.

Pulling forward into a tight parking space is like parking blind. If I can see the space I'm pulling into ahead of time - I sometimes back up to look again - then I can gauge where to stop. That requires a little space along the driver's side to get a visual clue. But it's nervous making. The...

    Major Phantom Braking Issues

In the investor day video they talked about the old wiring harness with a gazillion sensors and bragged that they removed most of them, to save money, supply chain problems, and manufacturing effort. Wife replacing BMW X3M40i - looking at Model Y or BMW iX3 - decision time!

I really liked Apple CarPlay in my Audi A4, but the entertainment system in the model Y is fantastic and I don't miss CarPlay. The software is very good and the huge display is very satisfying while driving. I've heard that other car brands are still catching up to Tesla in terms of software...

Discussion: Model Y General Waiting room for orders placed After January 2023

This might be welcome news to some, or more frustration, but the EDDs are meaningless until Tesla starts texting you. I got a text a month before delivery saying I'd get delivery "in the next few weeks." Two weeks later it said "VIN to be assigned in the next 1-2 weeks." A week later I got...

FSD AP improvements in upcoming v11 from Lex Fridman interview

Wow. Didn't they start over with a rewrite in 2022? Meanwhile the competition has fairly useful systems built on maps and sensors. FSD seems like an experiment that will never end. I know, it's somewhat useful for a lot of people. Elon should be resigned to giving refunds pretty soon.

    FSD Beta v11.x

Ah... memories of owning a 2006 Prius. My next car was a Mini Cooper because I was so tired of people cutting me off. "Prius!! Quick - get in front!" Elon keeps talking about the robotaxi. FSD is designed for his robotaxi, and not for people who drive. Literally: the idea is to talk to your...

2023 Model Y no USS discussion, incl. Discussion of Tesla Vision Firmware

For my peace of mind I'm assuming my car will never have parking warnings. We need to notify any service people that there are no warnings. I didn't think of this when I had PPF/Ceramic applied. The poor guy working on my car has to maneuver client vehicles around a relatively small garage. He...

Tesla’s Model Y SUV is being investigated for steering wheels that can fall off

What’s next then? How does Tesla usually handle hardware recalls? I would normally expect a letter in the mail.

Are you paying for premium connectivity?

I pay for it. I want the best streaming capability for listening to music. It's a much better deal than what I was paying for my Audi, which was a whopping $750 / year plus $21/month for SXM. I'm feeling pretty good about the deal I have with Tesla. I don't miss SXM.
  46. dachshund

Tesla called - said they have a car available - but does not have ultrasonic sensors - what does it mean?

I haven’t seen any reference to HW4 restoring parking warnings. For the foreseeable future you’ll just have the backup cameras.

    Major Phantom Braking Issues

I was thinking that if I'm driving toward a crest of a hill I usually slow down a little because I don't know what's on the other side. Maybe that's how the AP is tuned. If this is 'vision only' then I'm not sure I can criticize the software for spazzing out when it sees nothing. Since the NN...

    Phantom braking without self-driving features?

I would make a service call. Tesla may be able to fix it. The known locations apparently can be updated with data (somehow) as far as I understand. In the meantime, since you know where it occurs, that's where you turn it off.

    Phantom braking without self-driving features?

I'm curious if you're checking the speed limit your car has displayed when this happens. Is it usually in the same locations? I'd make a service call. I would call this a serious problem. Also have you recalibrated the cameras? Sorry to hijack the thread.
