Is it more cost effective to charge at 48 amps or 32amps?

Also, losses due to time a linear (the awake car uses the X Watts continuously while charging), but losses due to resistive heating are exponential (square of current, P=I^2*R), so the curves are guaranteed to cross somewhere. My old S had dual chargers (80A capable) and my parents have an 80A...

Plug in J1772 adapter first -- or connect adapter to charger first?

I've never seen this type of "faulted state" occur. The J1772 spec has no "physical insertion without power" state. A J1772 car only knows the charge handle is connected when it sees the pilot signal from the charge statiom. I've never seen any evidence of a physical "plug inserted" detection...

Tesla Model Y complète Shutdown due to 3rd Party EV charger

Sorry to hear. To be clear, that is an L3 DC fast charger, combo CCS and Chademo, not an L2 AC charge station. The 2 different charge handles are clearly visible in the picture. A similar thing happened to an F150 Lightning on an Electrify America charger. I don't know who ultimately paid for...

    Demo drive at Maine Mall

According to this post, the South Burlington, VT store finally got it's dealership license from the state, so they can start selling cars there. Construction is underway at Londonderry, NH. There's no legal reason a ME buyer can't pick up at either location.

    Level Home Charger - 10kw 229v

Either your circuit is on a lower voltage tap at the substation, or there's lots of load on the circuit (either in your house or the neighbor's). As @Cosmacelf mentioned, you need to see what the voltage is before and after the charge current ramp up for the full picture. But you're with 5% of...

    HPWC in Nashua - 80A@277V

I checked last night. The free 80A/277V HPWC and free 32A Clipper Creek are gone. They have been replaced with a pair of paid Blink stations. Plugshare shows the old HPWC/CC as "restricted" in the correct location, and the new station on top of the building (obviously wrong location). I've...

240V Outlet Install with a poorly placed main panel

Does the wire have to be completely hidden in the walls? Depending on the layout, you could install a surface mount receptacle and conduit along the garage wall/ceiling before going into/through the wall. That could greatly reduce labor in general and drywall repair specifically. Of course...

Wall Connector/Model Y charging starts at wrong time

I would counter with turn off all the scheduling crap in the wall connector. Turn on scheduled charging in the car, and set it to start at midnight. Done. I've been doing it this way for years; it works fine. I start at 8pm and let the car go until it's done (my off-peak is 8pm-8am) The...

    question on Scheduled Departure charging

Yes, parked outside for 8 winters. If your inside parking area doesn’t get below 8C, I wouldn’t worry at all. Also, I would expert your usage to be very predictable, with a similar state of charge at the end of your day and target charge in the morning. You could slow down the charge rate if...

    question on Scheduled Departure charging

We definitely get colder in New Hampshire than Queenstown; avg lows in Jan/Feb are around -10C, but we’ll have a few nights close to -30C. I could get some pack temp data before/during/after charging sessions next winter.

    question on Scheduled Departure charging

If I'm looking to get nearly 100% before a road trip, I'll set the limit to 80 or 90% the night before and start charging when off-peak starts at 8pm. Then when I wake up I kick the slider to 100% and give it an hour or so before I leave. Even in the winter, the battery is usually warm enough...

    question on Scheduled Departure charging

Then why bother? My off-peak rates are 8pm-8am. I use scheduled charging to start at 8pm, that way the car will always be charged before a 6am departure, regardless of whether it needs 30 min or 8 hours of charge time. IMHO, people get too wound up about worrying about when the charge ends...

Tesla Battery Preconditioning: When, How, and Why You Should Do It

This is not really accurate. Preconditioning for supercharging will happen any time you set a supercharger as a destination, regardless of how far away it is. If you're an hour out, it will defer aggressive heating until you are closer. Even if the "preconditioning for fast supercharging"...

80% Charge is Only Showing 168 Mile Range? '22 MYP w/ 17K miles

If I leave sentry mode active, which keeps the car from sleeping, my LR will burn ~8%/24 hrs. If the car was actually charging to 80% overnight, then not sleeping through the night, it would only be down a couple of percentage points max, not almost 20%. Another way to look at it. 80% Charge is Only Showing 168 Mile Range? '22 MYP w/ 17K miles

You need to get Tesla service involved to see if there is anything in the logs to explain why it is not charging all the way to your set limit. DON'T frame it as a range question, or they are (more) likely to blow you off with the "less than 30% degradation is normal" BS. You are specifically...

Blinking red T on the Mobile Charger

    Newb: Winter Cold Weather Charging?

When using 120V charging in sub-freezing temps, you must plug in and start charging immediately upon arrival while the battery is still warm enough to accept a charge. $89 Tera Level 2 Charger on Amazon

It's not a plug-in mobile connector, so no plug adapter to replace, unfortunately. It's a hard-wired, second gen Wall Connector on a 100A circuit (the car has a 72A charger), with the single red "flash of death" (overtemp). Fortunately, I have a new-in-box Gen 2 that I can replace it with...

12V on 2021 MYP getting old?

Core charge laws vary by state. @Fourdoor needs to confirm if not in CA, especially if a long distance from the SC. I'd be pretty PO'ed if I drove two hours to pick up a battery and got charged an extra $20 for a core after counting on the opinion of someone 1000's of miles away in another state.

    LV Battery 12V vs 16V

Is there a reason to get the Tesla wall connector over other level 2 home chargers?

Bigger is not necessarily better. Resistive (heating) losses increase with the square of current (P=I^2*R). As you increase charge current, there's a point where energy wasted due to heating will outpace energy saved from go to sleep earlier.
