(Lack of) Superchargers in Whitefish, MT

Why didn't you use the 125 kW ChargePoint fast chargers?
  2. T

Ford will add NACS to next gen EVs!

    1. Tesla made NACS free. Tesla didn't make the Supercharger free. 2. In Europe, Tesla allows non-Tesla to use some Superchargers despite the fact that all the Superchargers have compatible connectors.
  3. T

Opinion: Tesla should partner with another OEM for NACS or be forced into CCS someday.

Ford will add NACS to next gen EVs!

From the horse's (Elon's) mouth: “We’ve always said that this is not intended to be a walled garden, and we’re happy to support other automakers and let them use our Supercharger stations. They would just need to pay, you know, share the costs proportionate to their vehicle usage, and they...

Nope. Ford paid Tesla to gain access to the Supercharger. From the horse's (Elon's) mouth: “We’ve always said that this is not intended to be a walled garden, and we’re happy to support other automakers and let them use our Supercharger stations. They would just need to pay, you know, share...

Ford will add NACS to next gen EVs!

Notice what that the announcement said: Ford EV drivers gaining access to the Supercharger network. Notice what the announcement does not say: the Supercharger network is available for any EV driver to charge anywhere.
  9. T

Ford will add NACS to next gen EVs!

Tesla did not. I read the so called "specification" and no where does it say how the vehicle would authenticate with the Supercharger. That is absolutely relevant. There is an old saying: There ain't no such thing as a free lunch ...but then other automakers (other than Ford) wouldn't pay...
  10. T

Ford will add NACS to next gen EVs!

You miss the point. Tesla has long said that other automakers can use the Supercharger so as long as they paid Tesla for the access. Ford became the first automaker to pay Tesla for access. That means zilch for anyone not driving a Ford EV.
  11. T

Ford will add NACS to next gen EVs!

I am not sure what is "old" about CCS. CCS will continue to be used by automakers who don't want to pay Tesla to use the Supercharger.
  12. T

Ford will add NACS to next gen EVs!

Not quite. NEVI requires CCS. Also, not every automaker is willing to pay Tesla to gain access to the Supercharger.
  13. T

Ford will add NACS to next gen EVs!

It depends on how much Tesla is charging automakers to access the Supercharger.
  14. T

Opinion: Tesla should partner with another OEM for NACS or be forced into CCS someday.

I don't think you understand. Just putting an "NACS" port on your vehicle doesn't mean you have access to the Supercharger. Ford most certainly paid to have access to the Supercharger.
  15. T

Opinion: Tesla should partner with another OEM for NACS or be forced into CCS someday.

I wonder how many billions Ford paid to have access to the Supercharger network.

    CCS Retrofit Availability (2023)

All automakers, except Tesla, use CCS to fast charge their EVs. Tesla also uses CCS in Europe and parts of Asia.

Salvage title non-Tesla EV's and supercharging....

I guess we are going to have to wait until individual states pass their own right-to-repair laws or a national one gets passed. It shouldn't be long now.
  20. T

Salvage title non-Tesla EV's and supercharging....

Third-party mechanics should be able to run safety tests and turn Supercharger access back on. Tesla is most certainly violating the right-to-repair law.
  21. T

Salvage title non-Tesla EV's and supercharging....

Tesla prevents third-parties from doing safety checks that Tesla requires to regain access to Supercharger.

If the vehicle is leaking gas, it is a hazard to everyone in the immediate area. Just having a salvaged title does not mean that vehicle is a hazard to everyone in the immediate area.

L2 wall connectors at superchargers. Free? When to use them?

There are now J-1772 adapters with bypass circuit that allow non-Tesla EVs to charge even if the Wall Charger is set to restricted mode.

    Superchargers and Oklahoma

Every state in the country got money from the Volkswagen settlement. From that money, 15% can be used to install chargers. In large and urban states, the bidding processes are very competitive with many applicants applying. In small and rural states, the bidding processes are very...

Why is the CCS being adopted as the standard?

My point is that, as Tesla has already proven, thickness and length of the cable has fundamentally nothing to do with CCS. Rather, the are the result of choices made by the chargepoint operators.
  30. T

Why is the CCS being adopted as the standard?

At least, for North America, cable size has nothing to do with CCS. If CCS requires thicker cables, Tesla would have had to retrofit Superchargers with separate CCS cables for CCS compatibility as opposed to using the Magic Dock.
  31. T

Why is the CCS being adopted as the standard?

Yes. 100 kW and 320 kW FLO claims that its has >98% uptime
  32. T

Why is the CCS being adopted as the standard?

Then there is Vermont. FLO has coverage in Vermont.
  33. T

Why is the CCS being adopted as the standard?

Time to drive across Canada. Or if you don't have a passport, Vermont. (FLO is there too). FLO chargers are built like tanks. It has two buttons (START and STOP) and a calculator screen for a display.
  34. T

Why is the CCS being adopted as the standard?

If you ever used FLO in Canada, you know that that isn't true. FLO charging network has Supercharger-like reliability.
  35. T

Why is the CCS being adopted as the standard?

If there were public 150 kW+ chargers every 50 miles along the interstate and busy state highway, would Tesla build the Supercharger? Hell no! Tesla has to build the Supercharger because there was no public infrastructure at the time. That doesn't mean that every other automaker should copy...

  37. T

Opinion: Tesla should partner with another OEM for NACS or be forced into CCS someday.

No. The other automakers didn't have access to the Supercharger so they have to use what they have access to. If public chargers were 50 kW, then that is what they have to use. If public chargers use CCS, then that is what they have to use.
  38. T

Why is the CCS being adopted as the standard?

You assume wrong. Automakers are traditionally in the business of making automobiles, not running refueling infrastructure. You don't see General Motors gas station, Ford gas station, or Chrysler gas station. Gas stations are run by separate entities. Automakers saw charging stations the...

Why is the CCS being adopted as the standard?

It was already established that the Tesla connector came out before CCS. I am not disputing that.
  40. T

Why is the CCS being adopted as the standard?

Until recently, Tesla was a walled garden. Since non-Tesla vehicles can't use Superchargers, they have to use public CCS chargers. As a result, we are now stuck with CCS.
  41. T

Opinion: Tesla should partner with another OEM for NACS or be forced into CCS someday.

It's too late now because all the other automakers have decided to use CCS. We are stuck with CCS because Tesla didn't allow other automakers to use the Tesla connector without miles of string attached. What Tesla needs to do is invent the time machine.

When traveling, do you bother with trying to find hotels with EV charging? Can you depend on them?

PlugShare has a feature to check for Hotel with chargers https://www.plugshare.com/map/hotels I would still contact the hotel to make sure that the information is accurate and the chargers are in working condition.

Why is the CCS being adopted as the standard?

Name-calling is what little kids do in elementary school.
  44. T

The ship has sailed. Tesla should have done it a long time ago.
  45. T

Does CCS Magic-dock allow CCS Equipped Salvage Tesla's to Charge with Superchargers again?

No, but CCS sends the vehicle's MAC address over the protocol. That's how CCS charging network operates Autocharge.
  46. T

Why is the CCS being adopted as the standard?

I am sure there is nothing that makes new members feel more welcome than you calling them "shills".

Why is the CCS being adopted as the standard?

If you have to set up a strawman, your argument probably isn't very good.
