    RDU/LDU coolant bypass innovation

I don't know if you can avoid it. You need to cut it in half to get the bottom part off, at that point tons of aluminum chips make their way into the old manifold and possibly into the inlet of the stators waterjacket that is located at the bottom of the motor.

    RDU/LDU coolant bypass innovation

Cutting away the manifold will just dump aluminum chips into the cooling system and into the rear bearing. I would be very careful with this approach. Once you get aluminum chips into the cooling system, your looking at a nightmare for the pumps etc.

    RDU/LDU coolant bypass innovation

Unfortunately you need to remove the LDU to pull out the old one. Check out our video on how to do it.

    LDU failure

The coolant running through the rotor does very little to extract any damaging heat. Tesla has just released a similar bypass to ours that also routs the coolant away from the rotor and seal, this is on the "U" version of the LDU. We have monitored temperatures on the gear box and stator before...

    RDU/LDU coolant bypass innovation

The water jacket is for the motors stator cooling. Also transfers heat for the entire gear box.

    RDU/LDU coolant bypass innovation

Yes, we have been using this bypass in all of our cars and monitoring ATF gear box temp. We have not seen any difference and temps remain cool even at high speed long drives. The motors water jacket does most of the cooling for the gears and the aluminum case does a great job of transferring...

    P100D--planning for LDU issues

Get the coolant bypass kit on it ASAP. We have seen many motors with no exterior signs of seal failure until opened up. then it’s a mixed bag of how bad the damage is to the bearings and stator.

    RDU/LDU coolant bypass innovation

We just opened one of our motors on our shop car. The LDU was out of a 2020 with 36k miles on it. The seal had a failure already developing and the rear bearing was showing signs of corrosion and the snap ring was very rusty. This shows that even low mileage cars are susceptible to this failure...

We also have a kit to fix this issue.

Early Tesla S drive unit failure

We have a kit to prevent this problem. Been running it in our cars for a bit with no issues.

Early Tesla S drive unit failure

Unfortunately we see this all the time now. So many failed due to the rear seal leaking. We have a kit to prevent this.
