Elon Musk once mocked China’s BYD. Now it’s running circles around Tesla

BYD's everywhere in Australia, Atto 3's are basically as popular as Tesla's. No reports of a single fire.

    Key Fob availability in Australia

I have a key fob. Yes you can lock and unlock via the fob, but ultimately its still a Bluetooth proximity key. So deleting your phone key will still allow you to open the car around it. It is not the same as other manufacturers where you need to be within 500mm of the particular door and then...

I think the adaptive is great, but like you, the lights are very patchy. I haven't found them slow to operate though, that part is fine.

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

Funny, I was quite impressed with how good it was, and then too, also switched it off. The rear view camera plus mirrors is perfect. And because I have USS, the front is covered. The rear USS do nothing for me, but the fronts are useful. Again, a camera would be good for the front. This...

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

Look, I could probably deal with that, I have driven so many vans in my life that rear view mirrors are not a complete must have. There have been some vehicles that give you a choice between mirror and camera by flicking a switch, can't remember which ones (EDIT, the Nissan Ayria). The camera...

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

Yeah, I am dreading the day we lose real mirrors. They, well, just work so well. I'll take the range hit to keep them.

Model 3 Highland LR Range after charging

Who goes into the range graph to occasionally check the estimated range though? Does anything think the gesso meter should be on the main screen.

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

USS was only useful to me on the front anyway, rear USS seemed totally pointless ever since vehicles had reverse cameras. For the sides, I have these things called mirrors. The Tesla vision is pretty impressive, but I'd still prefer a camera up front.

Another $5000 price drop. Model Y entry point now $58,251

All it says to me is that a new replacement vehicle is cheaper, I'm not really concerned about my vehicle holding value when its replacement is going to be significantly cheaper, the same overall amount of money is spent. Seems like Tesla is pushing prices down, you know, pre-covid when cars...

Another $5000 price drop. Model Y entry point now $58,251

I just think its a case of doing business differently. Take a look at Tesla vehicles, they don't do majour changes to them very often, they pioneered mass EV manufacture, the vehicles development is now paid off, and they would rather shift more cars to more people rather protect peoples resale...

Another $5000 price drop. Model Y entry point now $58,251

To be fair, that is the slightly older version with the silver wheels, doesn't the slightly newer one have an updated FSD computer or similar?

    Australian Model Y Waiting Room

As an EV enthusiast, I still cannot fathom why someone would take an EV to the track other than a once off just see. The whole point of driving a track car is gear changes and light weight, regardless of lap times. But do agree for the Model Y, the Performance seems a little silly.
  15. Zoltrix77

    Australian Model Y Waiting Room

Yeah, I am not sure about a LR RWD, it does make sense in some ways for Australia, but unlike the US Models, we have access to cheaper LFP cells, Tesla in the USA looks like it has decided to use economy of scale to have one single NMC pack.

    Australian Model Y Waiting Room

Definately, if you are happy with what you will get, its cheap as, Juniper will be significantly more expensive, at least for 6-12 months I would guess.

    Australian Model Y Waiting Room

All the usual drips are saying stock has been piling up, I am more inclined to think that were going flat out making vehicles and that the production line has now shut to make Junipers. There was a leak on the Juniper centre console on Reddit, it just looked like the Highland one, but the point...

    New Model 3 Performance news

I love all the new Model 3 performance features, but more than anything, its just a little bit of a joke that the PERFORMANCE model never came with active suspension, sports seats and some visual changes. This been the sport model mold for any manufacturer since the beginning of automotive...

    Superchargers in Australia

Could have done that by sending those employees home for 2 weeks and re-evaluating in a considered manor. Now the HR department has a massive task to filter through the legal and logistical *sugar* storm of re-hiring and finding out who will be so bitter they don't want to come back. Well done...

I personally think the left/right of the scroll wheel is un-ergonomic in general, It feels like a real "effort" to do the action correctly. Perhaps a button on the left and right of the scroll wheel would feel more logical. The edge of the scroll wheel isn't sharp enough to get the correct...

I've never had a car with them, so it seemed pretty good for me, had a 20 minute drive through the Dandenongs that I had to do that night anyway so gave it a good test. Seems like the pixels are quite large, are they smaller on other vehicles? Always though the headlights have like dim spots...

My concern is that I just don't trust anyone else's network, the Tesla supercharger network for the most part has been rock solid, whilst still not expanding fast enough for my liking, its still way beyond what others have achieved. Yes, other vehicles are amber, but on your own vehicle they are red. It also shows fog lamps on my vehicle even though it doesn't have any. Obviously the vehicle knows if it has fog lamps or not, so they should fix that also, I know its a nothing, but you know, the details man!

Multi-tasking isn't a special word that adds more hours to a day. There simply isn't enough time to dedicate yourself. Tesla set back a decade because of a new CEO? Are you serious. Plenty of big companies have accelerated under new CEOs. Don't get fooled by thinking people are...

Musk is just an eccentric person (that's both a blessing and a curse depending on what he is attempting), he's got too much going on in his head and it is showing, it's time for a steady hand to take over Tesla. Tesla has been established, it's successful and now needs the a person who is...

    Cybertruck spotted in Sydney

Trust me, the people interested in those kind of massive American trucks will have zero interest in the Cybertruck, for the most part, that are just giant children with a complex and the vehicle must absolutely be powered by said dinosaur juice. I speak to those people quite often, I wouldn't...

    New Model 3 Performance news

I get that some people like 1 pedal driving, but I am talking about this from a "pure drivers" point of view. And having blended brakes has ZERO to do with using more friction brakes and creating brake dust, if you put all of the regen onto the brake pedal, you still get full regen until it...

    Single Phase Charging Options

Have a look around and see if you can get a cheap wall charger 2nd hand, they do pop up from time to time. The UMC does do 32A, but not with the specific 32A tail, so your costs will be similar. If you do get a sparky to install a socket, definitely go for 32A and not just a 15A. I only...

    Cybertruck spotted in Sydney

I get the so called publicity, but I don’t buy it. It appears to have cost a heap of cash to build that thing, so it’s very far from what would normally be called free publicity (I know you don’t actually say that). As far as the test bed for 48v and Steer by Wire, that could have been done...

    New Model 3 Performance news

Totally agree with you, if people like one pedal driving, that's awesome. But its not the be all and end all. As I have said in my previous post, I think its simply a matter of engineering blended brakes to work well with good pedal feel is very difficult. Coasting does feel nice in the...

I hate to me that person again, but I'd seriously choose a steel roof if available. A glass roof is a vanity item. a stone hitting a steel roof causes a chip and perhaps a dent. The world has gone insane. Perhaps its worth wrapping the roof! As a side note, did you know classic sports cars...

    New Model 3 Performance news

Biggest issue with a Tesla from that fine tuned driver aspect is that a Tesla doesn't have blended bakes. Eg, the brake pedal is only connected to the friction brakes. On other brands, the brake pedal can control regen and friction brakes. That way you can choose zero re-gen on the...
