Not sure that Kavkaz depot has "burnt down". It took a nice hit but by the look of it, some of it is still operational.

    Swappable front ball joints?

When this happens, can you feel any play with the arms still on the car or do you need to remove them to confirm it's the ball joints?

    Russia/Ukraine conflict

The bigger the purges, the more unhappy embezzlers there will be who want to get rid of Putin. It's all de-stabilizing, which can only be a good thing and it's naive to think the replacements are going to be any less corrupt. It's endemic in Russia.

Highland suspension on 2019 Model 3

There are certain nuts/bolts which are 'one use only' in the service manual. Often they are some sort of locking nut, stretch bolt or essential fastener which would lead to a potentially bad situation if they came off in service. They aren't expensive, so it makes sense to follow the service...

    Russia/Ukraine conflict

These over-the-horizon radar installations will be doing the work of the A-50 AWACS fleet which is probably now non-operational or at least severely stretched. Ukraine hit the one and only 29B6 Container radar Russia has back in April and now this DM radar looks a bit secondhand. I think this...

Highland suspension on 2019 Model 3

Can't see that happening as you need the software to be compatible. And you need to connect the damper actuators, which will no doubt be more than just a supply voltage. Performance rear springs have a different part number to RWD and dual motor, so seems rates are different.

    Hankook Tyres

That's interesting, especially as on the Hankook website the tread patterns look different. https://www.hankooktire.com/uk/en/tirelist/vehicle/electric-vehicle.html It's going to confuse a lot of people, that's for sure.

    Model 3 Highland Steering Issues

Yes, correct but not that specific tyre. And in the case of flat spots caused by the shipping process, it could be argued it's the shipping company's responsibility. To be fair to Tesla, if the car is good when it leaves the factory, a fault like this is going to be very difficult to detect when...

  11. Dangerous Fish

    Model 3 Highland Steering Issues

The type of tyre doesn't really make a difference if that is the cause. What it does show is that even a very slight flat spot can cause a vibration. Vibrations can also be caused by manufacturing defects in the tyres, so there are plenty of opportunities for tyres to be to blame, regardless of...

    Model 3 Highland Steering Issues

This has sometimes proved to be flat spots with the tyres on new cars. Supposedly happening due to how they were tied down on the boats bringing them over. The only sure way to diagnose is swap wheels with a known good set, although in bad cases if you jack one corner up and spin the wheel it...

    Hankook Tyres

Tyre supply issues have been ongoing for several years now. Various reasons, but if you can't wait weeks/months to get a particular tyre best to have a shortlist you can chose from. I'm had different tyres every time I've changed with mine.

    Hankook Tyres

M3LR looking at your previous posts? The Hankooks get great reviews and would be superior in terms of efficiency (range) but if that's not your primary concern, PS5s would be a fine choice, although personally I feel the gap has narrowed between Michelin and several other manufacturers in terms...

    Swappable front ball joints?

How many ball joints have you got through so far and which ones have given the most issues? Age of car? Mileage? Number of events? I've still got some noises I've yet to diagnose so it's possible they are the issue, but I haven't found any obvious play in any of them while on the car, so I'm...

    Russia/Ukraine conflict

Yet again, Russia tests the weakness of the West. Not the strength of the West. The weakness. When is this going to change? Don't tell me, they'll have a meeting in the UN about it, debate a resolution and let Russia veto it. Then they'll just carry on poking, poking, poking.

    PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: Alignment

Most owners also assume the alignment will be spot on when the car is brand new fresh from the factory. The 'within spec.'' alignment values on these cars allow a lot of latitude, especially with toe, which is the usual culprit when it comes to uneven tyre wear.

Front suspension creak when turning but Tesla says normal

Tesla always put a charge on the estimate up front in case the problem that's been reported turns out to be something else not covered by warranty. If you've ever booked any work thru the app you would have seen that.
  27. Dangerous Fish

    Russia/Ukraine conflict

Yes, of course. It was my slightly tongue in cheek way of dealing with what is a very common reply from Russians who don't want to think about the reasons and consequences of the war. It also means they can get away with saying they don't vote anyone into power so you can't blame them for what...

    Russia/Ukraine conflict

Ukraine's actions throughout this war don't come across as being vindictive. Unlike Russia's. If they follow up one strike with another at the same location shortly afterwards, I'm pretty sure it's for sound tactical reasons. As we've said before, they just don't have the resources or the desire...

    2022 MYLR - Steering Sensitivity

Toe settings are a personal preference to a certain extent. Some like very precise, responsive steering and turn in and some find that too nervous. The Tesla toe 'spec' is wide so from the factory it could be to your liking or not. That's why you should get it checked with a good alignment...

Wheel Steering Tie Rod Fell Off on the Racetrack

You are meaning the wheel nuts? They have to be torqued to 175N/m but more importantly you should check them regularly if you take the car on track. As on any car. The number of laps you've done on that track with those kerbs doesn't surprise me that something has broken. I have done a lot more...

How many people are having connectivity issues?

Looking back at some of the posts it doesn't seem clear cut between Atom and Ryzen, for sure, but having as much information as possible can't hurt. Ultimately, Tesla have the most data and if they haven't been able to see a pattern, I can't see how they're going to fix it, especially if it's a...

How many people are having connectivity issues?

I'm chasing a problem we have with Track Mode in the Model 3 but it only affects Intel Atom-based models. Ryzen works OK. When I spoke to them about they suggested there may be a link between that and the connectivity issue. I'm not convinced of that myself, but there's a possibility. So just...

Wheel Steering Tie Rod Fell Off on the Racetrack

There are 5 or 6 left hand corners and 2 or 3 right handers on that track where both cars are riding the kerbs and that T12 kerb looks like the worst one to me. Jim's tie rod didn't break because of T10, it just decided to let go at that point on the track. If it was his left side one like yours...

    Russia/Ukraine conflict

This is the sort of thing I'm hoping is going to turn up soon. In some respects, it might be better to tactically withdraw from some areas to let the surviving assault groups form into larger holding positions, then hit those with artillery, mortars and the larger kamikazee drones we've recently...

    Russia/Ukraine conflict

Pulling the various reports together I've seen suggests the following (in the border area above Kharkiv): 1. There aren't enough Russian troops to capture a large city like Kharkiv, but it's one of their targets currently. 2. Kharkiv isn't within artillery range so they need to create a 'buffer...

    Wheel alignment cost at SC

The takeaway here is that Tesla are not alignment specialists. Neither are BMW, Porsche, Mercedes and the rest. Same as tyre fitting. They charge more than a good indy tyre place because they don't specialise in tyres. You pay the same hourly rate for all work at any dealer so if you don't want...

    Wheel alignment cost at SC

For the record, I checked with my contact in Tesla and certainly Bristol, Cardiff, Guildford and Chelmsford all have their own alignment ramps so if they do ever farm out an alignment it will be because of some circumstance such as the ramp being out of action or over-booked. But, my advice is...

    Wheel alignment cost at SC

Ok fair enough. They are very meticulous and do a very careful job so the price obvously reflects that! I'd still use them over Guildford SC if the proce was the same though.
  46. Dangerous Fish

    Russia/Ukraine conflict

It's counter-productive for Ukraine to be targetting civilians. They have a small number of (generally) high precision weapons and use them accordingly - to strike targets which will disrupt Russia's further occupation and destruction of Ukraine. There are plenty of well documented cases of...

    Wheel alignment cost at SC

I haven't heard of centres taking the cars off site for alignments, so just because one might doesn't mean the others do. Not that I'd use a Tesla SC for an alignment anyway, because there are better options. @thewanted For Guildford, the place I've used who are very experienced and know Teslas...

    Russia/Ukraine conflict

It's really not politics, although that answer is often given by Russians wanting to pretend nothing is going to affect them and they can't do anything about it anyway. It's all about your deranged leader wanting to go back in time and grab all the land and resources he thinks should be his and...
