    Supercharger - Waterloo, IA

The way I do it is I start 5-10 under speed limit and keep watching the navigation, if it raises the estimate (10->11%) I bump the cruise control 1mph higher. Rinse and repeat every 5 min. Gets you there without the nerves in the shortest amount of time, and no need to slow down at the end.

Pics/Info: Inside the Tesla 100 kWh Battery Pack

cycle life can be easily extended by building buffer on top and bottom (see the Volt example - they have so huge buffers that they see 'zero' range degradation even after well over 100k miles on battery) - this is well known property of Li-Ion batteries - the closer you stay to the middle of the...

Home chargers offered up to EV travelers

Home chargers will always bring in privacy and safety concerns. IMHO we should lobby to transition the whole infrastructure out of public L2 charging and into three layered model: 1. Home charging as the base of it all. I believe car manufacturers are neglecting that part but not stressing...

Home chargers offered up to EV travelers

How about instead of overcoming all those issues we would concentrate on convincing big gas station chains to replace one gas pump with combo DC charging station that would be charging similarly to Tesla's model (fair pricing, not oriented on making money on electricity but on the coffee and...

    Preventing audio auto-play

Since it doesn't happen with any other car I've tried it with (and I tried a lot of rentals recently, including various BMWs, Nissans, Toytas, Buicks, Mazdas and Chevys), even if this is caused by iPhone it's still Tesla's problem (since all other manufacturers seem to be able to work around...

    Stealing a Model S/X battery

Only if we're talking upgrades. If I simply want to replace my 250k miles 85 pack with 30k miles 85 pack there will be no difference from the ECU point of view.

    Stealing a Model S/X battery

With the number of the battery being replaced. That way the pair VIN - battery S/N will match.

    Stealing a Model S/X battery

I would be surprised if the battery's firmware didn't have serial number coded and available. Having said that - if somebody was savvy enough to be able to pull it off, they would probably find a way to override that number. Also that doesn't take care of the energy storage market.

Pics/Info: Inside the Tesla 100 kWh Battery Pack

Isn't that an ultimate example of sustainable transportation? We don't wan't people to upgrade their EVs, we want ICE drivers to get into EVs. Or so I thought.

    Problems with tire pressure monitoring

Same thing happened to me - the TPMS warning went off on our way home! I called it in and they looked through the logs and said that all four sensors are reporting very weak signals. I was told that in case all sensors are reporting weak they will most likely replace both sensors and the...

    Do we have heated mirrors?

Last time I've checked both rear window and front mirrors are used to look _BACK_. Mating them together makes perfect sense. You also need to defrost rear window to use center mirror so you could argue that with one click you defrost all three mirrors.

    A Better Routeplanner

But... the app can talk to you car and get your current state of charge. Why not reevaluate remainder of the trip based on current state of charge when you're traveling? The same way onboard software does.

Home chargers offered up to EV travelers

I wouldn't be surprised if chargepoint was working on something similar with their home chargers, they already are connected and have all needed data. All is needed is 'set your price' field.

Tesla CPO Process - Communication Frustration?

I believe somebody will read them. Having been on receiving end of those surveys many times, I've read them all, the longer the comment the more attention it got. Now whether it actually goes up the chain and is being acted upon? Can't answer this one, but I bet that if over a period of time...

Tesla CPO Process - Communication Frustration?

This is strange. I just took my CPO delivery last Saturday and my experience was great, they spent 1h with us walking us through all the stuff inside and out. Best 'new' car delivery I have ever experienced so far. Having said that - in a day or two you'll get survey from the mothership, with...

Find Us | Tesla 3 stalls. Don't know how you count but to me 3 deep means 3 cars in line, which totals 6, not that many.

Tesla CPO Process - Communication Frustration?

I believe it again comes down to staffing - they do not spend time on refurbishing used ones because they have plenty of things to do otherwise. My guess would be they planned to work on those CPO in free time that never materialized. As their staffing levels grow you'll see the wait time shrinking.

    Supercharger - Grand Island, NE

True, but Brush ahs been marked online for about a week now, and all of them see it and let you use it manually (as in you tell evtripplanner to charge there). It's only the auto routing that skips it.
  23. T

    Supercharger - Grand Island, NE

Noticed that too. evtripplanner refuses to use Brush in auto routing, but if you tell it to use it it's good, even for S60. I think it might have something to do with the reported issues with interstate exit in google maps?

Tesla CPO Process - Communication Frustration?

On marketing/sales side - that might be true, but the same service center that prepares your CPO (that often requires substantial work to be done) has to take care of all those preps for new deliveries and urgent quality issues. Here is the bottleneck and sales guys know that and choose to stay...

    Supercharger - Lincoln, NE

Yeah, they have nice restaurants/food courts inside. Will be my first choice to get lunch on my trip west, They'll make much more on me there that they'll spend on that electricity. Plus I regularly spend money at our local HyVee on groceries, but probably won't be using our Supercharger since...

Tesla CPO Process - Communication Frustration?

No, you are not. Except realize that selling CPOs is not their top priority, especially those last two weeks where they run to make the delivery quotas. I have ordered CPO S85 mid December myself and I already see huge difference in responsiveness of the DS pre/post New Year. That tells me...

Help me overanalyze - new or CPO?

One other thing to mention - even if you think you do not need bigger battery than 60 - consider getting bigger one for two reasons: 1. Degradation - when your 60D looses 10% in few years you're looking at 190mile car (~150 real life travel, maybe down to 120 in cold weather/strong wind), when...

    Cost of Operating Model S

Since you've taken HOV lane/pass saving into account there are some other pieces of information that you need to count: - tags/registration difference - (I don't know how it works in GA, in Iowa it's based on MSRP and age) between your old car and new car (or between your new Tesla and any other...

Help me overanalyze - new or CPO?

Seems like way too much if you're willing to stay with lower battery. Check out that one: 60 kWh Model S 5YJSA1S14EFP32173 | Tesla Also keep in mind - you can not retrofit rear facing seats, AFAIK they need some hardware installed that can be only done during body welding.

HPWC charging at shopping center - only 25 mi per charging hour

Both my Leaf and i3 have exactly that functionality - the charge port locks the plug in during charging, but unlocks when charging is complete.
  33. T

HPWC charging at shopping center - only 25 mi per charging hour

I'm sorry, but unless that back of the car will show remaining range your reasoning is completely bogus. Why would you think it is appropriate to let Tesla 60 @95%SOC sit there and charge while owner of Tesla P100D @2%SOC deserves a kick? You either ask everybody or no one.

    Buying a CPO....advice needed

SN = serial number. Keep in mind that in 2013 Tesla was still in early stages of making cars, they were making very few of them then. So your 2013 model might have serial number in high teens of thousands (e.g. 17xxx) while 2014 might go as high as 45000 (since you've mentioned the 2014 is pre...

    Buying a CPO....advice needed

no, I'm suggesting get the 2014 with higher mileage, but hold them onto the promise that it will be refurbished. I believe buying a car with double the SN will get you a better unit overall with many production upgrades incorporated. Also get the bigger battery pack - keep in mind that...

Is the windshield different in a cold weather package X?

I highly doubt it. For several reasons: 1. All that adds cost and complexity and Tesla has many more better places to spend cash than on designing fancy camera heater that would stay around 50F 2. Even if the solution was easy and cheap - why didn't they apply it to windshield heaters as well...

Is the windshield different in a cold weather package X?

45F, really? That's a bunch of BS. Unless you call 'heated' the fact that every electric device produces some heat by the virtue of being turned on and working.. If there was any heating element installed it should be around 100F the same way wipers and or steering wheel are. That 45-50F will...

New Owner 60D all glass roof impressions coming from Leaf and BMW i3

Having owned a Leaf and currently owning i3 Rex I can tell that MS is definitely quicker than the i3 (granted Rex subtracts about 1s). I'd say it's all in feel not in actual numbers. Interestingly the Leaf felt like the quickest off the line - it just kicks you in the back (and quickly "runs out...
