Tyre Blow Out on 7 mth old Model 3 …. Not happy

No worries, you are welcome. I don't believe you are trolling, just reacting to a traumatic experience. The forum is a bit sensitive as Tesla trolls are unfortunately commonplace on here. Car manufacturers over the last decade have been increasingly putting aesthetics ahead of practicality...

Q3 collections, new owners tales and experiences

The pillar camera blocked issue is standard on the M3/Y, especially through the winter months. Just ignore it. Same goes for SOS call system. I seem to remember a service recall request for this on my M3 a while back, which I think fixed it. My current MY has the same issue. I just ignore...

Tyre Blow Out on 7 mth old Model 3 …. Not happy

If you really want to learn something from this experience, it's that ultra-low profile tyres are not the best for protection against this kind of failure (rare as they are) when driving on potholed UK roads. The stretched look is also quite trendy at the moment and probably not doing the tyre...

Calling owners whom have BOTH Model S and Model Y - cabin noise

I haven't actually owned an S, but driven plenty of them over the last 4 years while I owned an X. I have to say they (S and Y) are chalk and cheese when it comes to both ride feel and handling. The S is a classic soft motorway cruiser, while the Y feels more like an oversized hot hatch i.e...

Tyre Blow Out on 7 mth old Model 3 …. Not happy

I can fully understand your feelings about this. As an experienced automotive engineer (worked in F1 motorsport) I can assure you this is not a specific Tesla issue and could have happened on any other car. I'm not going to speculate on the reason this particular tyre suddenly failed, but I...

    The Elon Musk Show

Same with our 18 month old M3 LR. Sold for same as bought. So only difference is your "fake" £12k discount, which you needed to haggle to break even on the residual. That was my point. Your car effectively lost £12k over its fictional list price.

    The Elon Musk Show

Franchises are middlemen competing for a cut of the profit. Tesla can only sell cars at a price that makes them competitive against other manufacturers. Tesla do not have a monopoly. Direct sales has nothing to do with monopoly. The residual values of our first 2 Teslas made them fantastic...

    The Elon Musk Show

You are getting confused between monopoly and a direct sales model. Or maybe those franchised dealers are working for free to get you the very best deal possible.

    What's your Tesla (origin) story?

Had a test drive in a Tesla MX late 2017 after poking around one in the MK showroom. Ordered one a few days later and took delivery in Feb 2018. Never looked back. Only regret is not buying a load of Tesla stock when I was first thinking about it in 2018!
  12. P

    The Elon Musk Show

Yeah, that's kind of what I meant by Tesla being successful. There were certainly plenty of evil characters around that desperately wanted it to fail.
  13. P

    Interior Upgrade / Re-Trim

That was my first thought too. When I traded in our 2018 MX with nearly 60k miles, the white seats were still like new. Not a crease or stretch mark in sight. So I too am intrigued by this at only 28k miles.
  14. P

    The Elon Musk Show

I see Elon still divides opinion very strongly! I haven't watched the shows yet, but they sound interesting. He's clearly a very complicated personality and it's probably impossible to get a "true" picture of him from anything publicly available. What we do get are no doubt various...

    Key fob availability?

Of course it can be done if you throw enough cash at it. I'm just surprised it's not more mainstream at this point. Even the lowest spec cars have remote central locking these days, while it's still very much a ultra-high-end niche option for houses. Building is still such a low-tech industry...

Q3 collections, new owners tales and experiences

Yeah I can now confirm the same with my MIC Sep MY. It definitely doesn't have the revised seat stitching. So it looks like the Berlin cars are still a bit ahead of the curve. But since this is Tesla, staggered incremental spec changes are par for the course. Of the 4 Teslas I've owned, not...

Q3 collections, new owners tales and experiences

Good comparison, but be aware that this is a fast changing game! We have a UK spec MIC March MYP, which fits the description in this video perfectly. But we also have a MIC September MYP that appears more in line with the Berlin cars in this video i.e. it has the rear parcel shelf and softer...

    Tyre Pressures and warnings

We have taken delivery of two MYs this year. The first in March and second in September, both picked up from Birmingham NEC. The first one was delivered with the tyres set to 48 psi cold all round (presumably set in China and never checked before delivery in the UK). At the time I think this...

    Model 3 v Model Y salary sacrifice

Having owned both, the MY is a lot more versatile as a family car i.e. hatch back, bigger boot. The 3 is a slightly more sporty drive, but there's not much in it. Seating position in the MY is considerably higher, which I find more practical/comfortable as a daily driver, but it makes it...

    Tyre pressures recommendation on screen

It's either a software bug or they keep changing their mind! Tyre pressures are always a compromise as there are lots of variables involved e.g. temperature, grip/traction, road surface, road conditions, speed, load etc. In reality there is no such thing as a singular optimum cold pressure...

Rumour: Model 3/Y to lose stalks in 2023 model year

Actually I think they really are.
  22. P

Any views on Q3 Model Y suspension setup or differences from Q2 so far?

Exactly! The motoring press decided to slate the original MY suspension to varying degrees (generally calling it too harsh etc) and that seems to have gotten into people's heads before they even sit in the car. Now I have no idea what those early press cars were actually like (maybe they...

Any views on Q3 Model Y suspension setup or differences from Q2 so far?

It's bound to feel harsh over speed bumps compared to a Disco. I find the ride on the MY actually improves at higher speeds. For example, we have a stretch of road going into Buckingham from Stowe (anyone local will know this well) that is full of undulating rythmic bumps that unsettle most...

    Key fob availability?

What I want is exactly how my Tesla works i.e. I just pull the handle and it opens. Talk of locks makes me think about how nice it would be if people didn't steal stuff? It's pretty sad really when you think about it. Having to lock pretty much anything you own.
  25. P

Any views on Q3 Model Y suspension setup or differences from Q2 so far?

All depends what your idea of "firm" is. If you are looking for a super-soft floaty kind of ride, then the MY is not going to be your best option. But it handles much better than a typical soft riding SUV. Having said that we had a Nissan Qashqai that had a harsher ride than either of our MYs...

    Polestar 2 - Courtesy Car

I remember being quite excited about the Polestar 2 on launch and thought I might even choose one over a Tesla M3 at the time. But in the end I decided that the M3 was a better overall package (prefer the Tesla UI and SuC convenience) and now the MY even better again with its more versatile...

    Polestar 2 - Courtesy Car

I thought that until winter properly kicked in (we had a M3 without heated wheel) and the steering wheel was still ice cold even with a pre-heated interior. Our MX at the time had a heated wheel and was much better on a freezing cold morning. So I now fully appreciate having a heated steering...

EVs unsuitable for use as pursuit cars, apparently

Any views on Q3 Model Y suspension setup or differences from Q2 so far?

I could very well do that with both our March and September MYs, but I can't be arsed. But I am 100% sure that our later car has a more compliant ride. I noticed it without even being aware of any factory spec changes in the suspension. Even my wife noticed it immediately on her first drive...

Any views on Q3 Model Y suspension setup or differences from Q2 so far?

We currently have both a March 22 and September 22 MY LR and I often drive them both daily back-to-back. For sure the September car rides significantly better i.e. more compliant and settled over bumps. It's not that our March MY is particularly harsh, but it is certainly a bit more jittery...

    Key fob availability?

Sounds cool. I've often wondered how long it will be before house keys are history (except as a failsafe backup). Our holiday apartment has a simple coded door entry and I don't understand why UK houses nearly all still have old-fashioned key locks. It's silly when I find it more convenient...

    Key fob availability?

Personally I don't think watch phones are a viable alternative to a normal phone. Screen size would be way too limited for my use. Since not having a car key fob for the last 12 months I haven't forgotten my house keys any more or less than I did previously. But having said that I never...

Rough Ride MYP with Pirelli tires vs ID4 AWD

The damping on our latest 2022 MY LR (MIC) is actually pretty decent. Ride is still on the firm side, but pretty well damped and certainly not harsh (at least by European standards). I haven't driven the ID.4 but I can well imagine it being a much softer ride at the expense of much more...

Let's go Caravanning - anyone else???

I would be okay with this if I didn't have to get stuck behind them while they crawled to and from their preferred TV viewing spot.
  35. P

    Key fob availability?

I'm just surprised people still feel the need to carry a key fob when their phone does the same thing. Why would I need to add a key fob to my house key ring? Of course I've had dozens of key fobs over the years (including our Tesla MX) but I've never seen the point in buying one for a M3/Y...

    [UK] 2022.36

Good summary. For all its quirks I still believe Tesla has the most intuitive UI of any car I've owned/driven. Having said that it's been 4 years since I drove anything else, so maybe things have improved elsewhere?
  37. P

    [UK] 2022.36

I can see your point regarding M3/Y. But the MS/X UI has improved massively over the last 4 years.

New feature, pop the door on latest app

Ah I see, you missed the 40 degC+ summer! But did you know that the fan icon also switches on the heating too when it's cold?
  39. P

    Key fob availability?

Yep, no key or thought required. The car just opens and locks itself automatically when you are carrying your phone. What more could you want??
  40. P

New feature, pop the door on latest app

So are you saying that you never remotely heat or cool your car from the app? I use that fan icon on a daily basis. Always fun watching dinosaur owners approaching their oven-hot or frozen car while your Tesla is primed ready to go.

    [UK] 2022.36

For me over the last 4 years of Tesla ownership OTA upgrades have basically been a case of 2 steps forward and 1 step back. But overall I feel the UI is now significantly better than it was 4 years ago (note that I gave up on EAP/FSD after our first Tesla when basic AP became standard). So...

    Key fob availability?

I'm curious what problem you are having here? I've found the phone app (iPhone) to be ultra-convenient and fairly reliable. I do carry the key card in my wallet as a backup and that has never let me down. Last car we had with a key fob was our MX and I can't say I miss not having one.

    MYP ownership-One year later

I enjoyed reading this report. Refreshing to hear about someone actually enjoying their car for a change! Blue paintwork looks great in the sun too. We currently have a pair of 2022 MY LRs which I think are fantastic daily drivers. I would quite like a MYP, but I can't justify the £10k price...

2022.24.6 and Spotify on standard connectivity in the UK

Yes I agree and also find it very strange that Tesla software bugs can affect nominally identical cars in different ways! But this is quite different to Tesla Leeds telling someone a load of BS that the free Tesla Spotify account is NOT included with PC!

    Help with cruise control etc

Similar experience here. Has anyone mentioned that it only responds to speed limit changes when Autosteer is active? If using TACC alone it ignores speed limit changes completely. As for lane changes I abandoned EAP/FSD. It's much easier and quicker to change lanes manually with a quick...

2022.24.6 and Spotify on standard connectivity in the UK

I presume you mean losing Tesla Spotify access due to a software bug? I did historically have connectivity issues with our MX on specific software releases (it was really bad around 2019), but it's been pretty solid in our M3 and MY cars. But anyway I'm 100% sure you are supposed to get free...

    WBAC Shock

Yeah lots of variables at play. I was talking specifically about Tesla prices on WBAC vs Motorway at this precise moment in time (which is probably already history). Of course it changes all the time. Valuations for my MY have fluctuated up and down by £7k over the last couple of weeks...

    Service centre courtesy car

Back in 2018 there was a reasonable chance of getting a nearly new performance loaner, but these days it's usually whatever mangy old beater S they have lying around. Last one I had was a pre-facelift 85D I think. It wasn't very impressive and way down on quality compared to any of the current...
