if you take what Elon liked at face value (pivoting from selling cars to selling rides), I can only think of two interpretations: 1) Tesla will continue to make vehicles but not sell them to consumers 2) Elon is redefining what a "car" is and will be selling those to consumers

I don't think they would sell the entire business, they would license the technology to companies that want to build the EV equivalent of gas station/mini mart/restaurant. I think it would be great if third party supercharger sites started popping up that have food, restrooms, squeegees, etc...

Ride hailing is basically summon + navigate on autopilot. Maybe all the work on summon (eg navigating in a parking lot) has been in preparation for this.

I could definitely see the cheaper model cannibalizing sales from the 3 just like the 3 did to the S. The pie gets larger, but the relative size of the slices changes.

It sounds like they are downplaying the importance of 4680, so I don't think we'll ever see them in the existing lineup other than Cybertruck

I wonder how much of the after hours is people realizing that this quarter wasn't the disaster that was feared, so TSLA probably won't be going lower, vs anything in particular in the report or call that they are excited about. I'm guessing more of the former.

I invested in Tesla because I like the products, I like the company, and I think I can make a good return on that money as a result. Right now, I think Tesla Energy is an underrated gem that can outshine everything else.

I'm not an accountant, but I am under the impression that the charge is a short term cost and a long term savings. All the costs will be in Q2, but the savings will take a few quarters to even out.

Sometimes I wonder if RT is more of a concept than an actual product. ie FSD on your personal car that is legal to take you from A to B w/o a driver.

As @Right_Said_Fred mentioned, this scenario seems more likely with batteries. Tesla and CATL teaming up and Tesla abandoning their home grown 4680 plans

I think this is more than just cleaning house. It seems like they are also doing a remodel (ie some significant changes to the company/business).

If Tesla goes all in on the Robotaxi (RT) for the next generation, who buys it? Does Tesla sell RTs to consumers/businesses? Or does Tesla not sell them and operates their own fleet of RTs? I could see the value of owning a RT so you don't have to wait for one to come get you - you just jump...

I’d feel better about it if he hadn’t been saying for 5 years that FSD would be solved that year. Fsd is going to happen, it’s just a matter of when, and if that timeframe lines up with this bet.

now that would be a good reason for Drew to leave and makes a lot of sense. Tesla had to build batteries because no one else was in the quantity they needed, now they are becoming a cheap commodity.
