Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Here's a video that talks about it. It sounds like there was a difference in opinion between Drew and Elon how 4680 development should proceed.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

if you take what Elon liked at face value (pivoting from selling cars to selling rides), I can only think of two interpretations: 1) Tesla will continue to make vehicles but not sell them to consumers 2) Elon is redefining what a "car" is and will be selling those to consumers
  6. Chunky Jr.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

That doesn't seem unreasonable to think that since Elon liked a post stating that Tesla is pivoting from selling cars to selling rides

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I think it is a lot easier to be disillusioned now than it was a few years ago when the stock was going up like crazy. Back then Tesla could do no wrong and it seemed like a new all time high was hit every week. In hindsight, I think it was irrational exuberance and an EV bubble. Now the...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I don't think they would sell the entire business, they would license the technology to companies that want to build the EV equivalent of gas station/mini mart/restaurant. I think it would be great if third party supercharger sites started popping up that have food, restrooms, squeegees, etc...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Some more detail below. This might explain why they got rid of the supercharger team - they are going to farm it all out to third parties. Maybe more companies than BP are interested in doing this. Interesting that they also want to hire the people that were let go. BP Plc’s electric vehicle...

Elon's recent actions lead me to conclude that he has seen something in Tesla's business that scared the bejeezus out of him and he is acting accordingly.

    $99 FSD take rate

it's worth it to me just for the auto park stuff and being able to change lanes w/o having to disengage auto pilot
  16. Chunky Jr.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Ride hailing is basically summon + navigate on autopilot. Maybe all the work on summon (eg navigating in a parking lot) has been in preparation for this.

I could definitely see the cheaper model cannibalizing sales from the 3 just like the 3 did to the S. The pie gets larger, but the relative size of the slices changes.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I wonder how much of the after hours is people realizing that this quarter wasn't the disaster that was feared, so TSLA probably won't be going lower, vs anything in particular in the report or call that they are excited about. I'm guessing more of the former.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I invested in Tesla because I like the products, I like the company, and I think I can make a good return on that money as a result. Right now, I think Tesla Energy is an underrated gem that can outshine everything else.

it's worth it to me just for the auto park stuff. I'm terrible backing into spots like superchargers. And even worse at parallel parking (haven't tried that yet with FSD, hopefully it supports it)

I agree with everything you said. For this one point above, ideally that would be one vehicle instead of two

    Near-future quarterly financial projections

I'm not an accountant, but I am under the impression that the charge is a short term cost and a long term savings. All the costs will be in Q2, but the savings will take a few quarters to even out.

Sometimes I wonder if RT is more of a concept than an actual product. ie FSD on your personal car that is legal to take you from A to B w/o a driver.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I love the idea of my car being able to drive for me when I can't drive (few beers) or don't want to (lazy, sleepy, don't feel like it). I'm not a huge fan of being forced to have the car drive for me all the time. I enjoy driving and would want to be able to do that when I feel like it. If...

Couple reasons : • subscription income - FSD, premium connectivity, supercharging, ... • more Teslas on the road is better for the mission (ie fewer ICE cars)

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

As @Right_Said_Fred mentioned, this scenario seems more likely with batteries. Tesla and CATL teaming up and Tesla abandoning their home grown 4680 plans

new job listings being purged. I'm sure there will be new ones in near future, but existing ones are no longer available. This is far more than just removing the bottom performers. Seems more like a total reset.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

If Tesla goes all in on the Robotaxi (RT) for the next generation, who buys it? Does Tesla sell RTs to consumers/businesses? Or does Tesla not sell them and operates their own fleet of RTs? I could see the value of owning a RT so you don't have to wait for one to come get you - you just jump...

I’d feel better about it if he hadn’t been saying for 5 years that FSD would be solved that year. Fsd is going to happen, it’s just a matter of when, and if that timeframe lines up with this bet.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

now that would be a good reason for Drew to leave and makes a lot of sense. Tesla had to build batteries because no one else was in the quantity they needed, now they are becoming a cheap commodity.
