Model X charging slowly after trip

It sounds like there is a poor connection and therefore overheating. Most likely between the wall outlet and Tesla plug, but could be the car receptacle itself. If your house has a cheap NEMA 14-50 (stove outlet) that was from a big box store, they are crap. They wear out quickly, and overheat...

RFP EM-008-2023: DC Fast Charging Stations – Phase 4

I am a bit surprised at the Millinocket choice. It is only 10 miles from the Medway SC. I have never seen Medway busy — even on eclipse day there were empty slots. Usually I am the only one charging, been there half a dozen times.

What's with all the 6 kW public L2 chargers? Why is it so rare to find faster AC charging options?

It isn’t just about everybody with 240v. Voltage can vary a lot over the course of the day (brownouts, anyone?). Making generalizations isn’t useful, voltage varies because of internal wiring, utility wiring, utility capacity, and time of day, among other variables. Don’t sweat it. No consumer...

    CHADEMO ADAPTER

I never got my CHAdeMo working in the USA, but I’ve used it quite a bit in Canada. 50kw is slow, but better than walking. Japan has faster CHAdeMo than USA.

    Charging at non-Tesla charging stations

For US driving the SC network is by far the best. (Canada I have to use CHAdeMo sometimes). Plot your route in PlugShare or A Better Route Planner and see if there any any advantages with non-Tesla. I’ve driven c. 80,000 mile in 26 states and never used a non-SC. A few years ago I tested my...

    Unusual loss of charge

OK , thanks all. I had never noticed since I usually charge immediately when I arrive so low.

Do I have to buy and carry extra charger in the car for long trips?

Everybody has different uses. My charging is approximately 1/3 home, 1/3 portable charger with a variety of dongles, and 1/3 Supercharging. When using the portable, about half the time I need to use a 14-50 extension cord. I have used the 5-15 connector just once in 100,000 miles, when I was...

    Unusual loss of charge

I arrived at my in-laws with 10%. Unfortunately I could not start charging for about an hour. My SOC dropped to 4% in that hour! Sentry and HVAC off, ambient temperature about 55°F. Last hour of driving below 50 mph on non-Interstates with no hard accelerations. Battery should not have been...

    NEMA 10-30R on a 20A Breaker?

A minor amendment: it is valid to have a LABELED outlet below standard, eg, a 30 A receptacle with only 20 A available. It has to be labeled at 20 A only. My house had one of these, a 14-50 labeled as 30 A only. My assumption is whoever put a 20 A breaker in knew that circuit could not support...

    Donglemania: fail

A friend may be stopping by in his travel trailer, so I wanted to see if my Tesla wall charger could work with a TT-30, the standard 120V 30 A receptacle used in campgrounds. I have a string of adapters: NACS to J-1772 to 14-50 to 5-15 (or TT-30). I know a Wall Charger is 240 V, but thought...

Whatever happened to the front bumper camera and ambient lighting?

I thought most auto assembly lines were 24/5 or 24/6, not 24/7. The extra days are for maintenance and repairs.

What's with all the 6 kW public L2 chargers? Why is it so rare to find faster AC charging options?

I am very happy charging my Tesla X at home at 17kw. Wish I could do it on the road more. Many destination chargers, especially at parks, are 19kw.

    Lug nut covers?

    Thank you
  17. doghousePVD

    Lug nut covers?

About half dozen of nut covers have disappeared. Various Amazon ads mention different sizes and colors. Some say 3, Y, and S, but don’t mention X. Aren’t all Tesla lug nut covers the same? I have a 2018 X on stock 20” wheels. I also have the 19” snow tires.

Need help on "Free Unlimited Supercharging for Life"...

Everybody had different lives. I have FUSC and about 1/3 of my kWh are from SC. I road trip a lot. I also have good charging at home. I estimate I’ve used about $10,000 of SC.

    500 mile range? LOL

Many ICE manufacturers are failing to sell EVs. They are coasting on their history, and not advancing. There used to be a lot of horse carriage makers, … until there weren’t.
  20. doghousePVD

    500 mile range? LOL

I think the biggest problem ICE manufacturers have is their dealer model. The dealer can’t sell EVs (too complicated to explain) and dealerships are likely to earn less on-going revenue from EVs. Dealerships have benefited from outrageous manufacturer marketing budgets (GM spent $1,400 per car...

Electrify America Fast Chargers - Huh?

But does it actually save more than a minute or two? Does anyone know if the 150 kw line would extend horizontally to 60% before declining if not charged at 240 kw+ for a few minutes? 22 kw @249 kw takes about 5.3 min. 22 kw @ 150 is about 8.8 min. Time savings delta 3.3 minutes. And if you are...

Electrify America Fast Chargers - Huh?

In the real road does 250 kw charging make a meaningful difference over 150 kw? For a typical charge, saves maybe a minute or two? It sounds like people claiming the 0-60 times impact the length of their daily commute. Does 0-60 sub 5 seconds get you there regularly faster than 7 seconds...

level 1 charger in cold climate—sufficient in upstate NY (Albany) for winters?

Isn’t Rockland 250 kw, so the 150kw spec irrelevant? Also the transformer says 1000kva.

    Supercharger - Rockland, ME

If the SC isn’t working, the three high power destination chargers at Lyman-Morse in Camden can help a lot. They’re 80 amps. I have charged at 72 A there several times (2018 X). There are/were several nice restaurants on that side of the harbor. Also the store at Lincolville Center has a good...

Curiously, I saw a Chevy Bolt plugged in this morning. I asked the guy if he was successful charging; he responded "We're working on it". Extreme Charging

My regular Tesla wall charger is not accessible for a few days due to some construction at my house. The nearest SC is about 50 miles. I have a Tesla to J-1772 (48 A) adapter and a J1772 to 14-50. Put those on the wall charger, then two 14-50 extension cords, then the travel charger. About 90...

Travel charger pigtails I made today

So why not just make/buy a 14-30P or 10-30P to 14-50R? What you are doing sounds silly and unnecessarily dangerous. Then you can charge at 24 A at 240V.

The guys working said they hoped by the end of month. Not that I actually need this SC, but sure is frustrating to be sooo close but still no cigar.

    Couldn’t Supercharge

Call? You’re kidding, right? You got a number to call? The app said they would tow me 100 miles at my expense. Stall seven worked for me, so I continued my trip. At my next SC stop, now charging.

Off Road Mode for Model X

    Couldn’t Supercharge

2018 MX 92,000 miles, about 40% supercharged miles. Tried SC, no blue light, no charge. Tried another, then another — 6 in total. Last one finally worked. No comments on PlugShare. I was terrified my car would need a 100 mile tow. I doubt that 5 chargers were down. Now what?

Installing a level 3 charger at home

Actually, I’m aware of many Tesla installed 80 amp chargers in national parks in Canada, and Baja California all the way to San Lucas. There still aren’t any SCs in those areas. I appreciated them with my 2018 X.

Installing a level 3 charger at home

Your ignorance and provincialism is astounding. Tesla’s truck has a minimal range towing, about 100 miles. Many people towing, especial around farms, ranches, and commercial fisherman would be towing all day, back and forth. Here in Maine lobstermen often have to schlep traps and other gear...

Model X towing Travel Trailer range reduction.

I’ve towed a 21 foot Safari Condo (2995 lbs) about 30,000 miles with my 2019 X, and am heading to Vancouver Island this summer from Maine. Make sure you are driving at the lesser of 55 mph or the speed limit. I’ve gotten to 150+ miles a few times, but generally 125 is the max feasible (99% to...

    Tires for towing

I seem to wear out the stock tires too quickly. I tow a travel trailer a lot, and about to get my 4th set in 90k miles. I usually drive in chill mode, so no hard acceleration. I also have snow tires so I don’t need winter capability. I would prefer symmetrical tires; will those go on my stock...
