Octopus Energy Saving Sessions

Does anyone know how the Octopus ”Power Hour” energy saving sessions are actually calculated?

I’ve taken part in all of them, but the results just seem totally random.

I’ve had sessions where we’ve switched off as much as we can and gone out, only to be told that we didn’t manage to save anything.

Some sessions, we’ve made very small savings, Including one where virtually everything was switched off and the whole family was in another country.

One session I forgot it was happening despite signing up, only to be told I’d managed to save 93% of my normal usage and be credited with over £16 off!

I’ll continue to sign up for them and don’t really do it expecting to save much as we are already quite energy efficient. It all just seems so random.

Annoyingly I’ve started exporting some power at peak, foolishly assuming there would be no more Saving Sessions.
That’ll surely have ruined my average for today.

The DFS session is confirmed, with a little 50mw requirement from the industry. The next step is that industry will bid on how cheaply they're willing to do that (Say, Octopus, EDF, british gas, Axel for GivBack, etc, etc) and national grid will pick the winners. That'll be in the next hour or so

Interesting session, seems to only make sence for a small provider who have automatic control over batteries etc.

It consumes power to do its thing, I measured mine at 20 W last time. That’s whole fractions of penny extra that can be saved!

Bidding auction results due by 14:00. Solis Inverter can remained powered for fifteen minutes after 0 production while backed by AC.

Octopus’ bids completely rejected this time. 56 MW procured @ 60.9 p/kWh bid average.
