Tesla has sent hundreds of its Powerwall battery systems to Puerto Rico to help the island restore power, the company told Bloomberg.
Hurricane Irma completely crippled Puerto Rico’s power grid and outages could last months in some regions. The Powerwalls can be paired with solar panels to provide electricity to to some of those areas. Tesla has reportedly also sent employees to install the systems in locations selected by local organizations.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk has also personally donated $250,000 to the relief effort.
