The Boring Company Hopes to Bring Express Service to O’Hare

The Boring Company will compete for a project announced by the City of Chicago to fund, build, and operate an express transportation service connecting O’Hare Airport and downtown.

Elon Musk confirmed the company’s plan to bid after the contest was announced. It was reported in June that Musk was in discussions with the city about such a project.

Chicago officials say they’re open to all ideas, such as “corridors above or below surface level” to deliver express service “at least every 15 minutes for the majority of the day” for fares “less than” the cost of a taxicab or Uber ride to O’Hare.

“The RFQ is agnostic about whether this is a surface or sub-surface system. We hope Elon Musk and either builders of hyper-loops and other innovative technologies will respond,” Deputy Mayor Bob Rivkin told The Chicago Sun-Times.

The Boring Company is also currently digging a tunnel network in Los Angeles and an underground Hyperloop stretching from Baltimore to DC.
