Jon McNeill, Tesla’s President of Sales and Services, is leaving the company to become chief operating officer at Lyft, a San Francisco-based ride-hailing company.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced McNeill’s departure on the company’s earnings call. McNeill has been an active TMC member, often helping solve problems or offer up a special experience for a Tesla fan.
Lyft also issued a press release announcing the hire.
“Last year, the Lyft community experienced more growth than in all previous years combined, growing rides by 2.3x and increasing market share by more than 50%,” the release said. “Jon is a proven leader who will build upon this momentum with his unique background of starting companies from scratch and managing at scale.”
Musk said on the call that Sales and Services will now be reporting to him. He did not mention a plan to hire a replacement.
According to the Lyft release:
During his time at Tesla, sales more than doubled, customer satisfaction increased to record levels, and his organization scaled to over 10,000 people across 32 countries. While scaling, Jon’s teams also changed the auto industry by innovating mobile services as well as the in-store and digital sales experience. Jon’s passion to change transportation for the better goes back to his days as a founder and CEO. He has successfully started and run eight technology and retail companies that included the first national chain of automotive collision centers as well as multiple insurance related businesses. Jon began his career at Bain & Company and is a graduate of Northwestern University.
