Tesla is Only U.S. Company in Top 10 Ranking of Best Auto Brands

Consumer Reports’ 2018 Brand Report Card, a ranking of automakers that produce reliable, high-performing models, placed Tesla eighth in its list of the ten best. Tesla was the only U.S. automaker in the top ten.

Consumer Reports considered the Model S and Model X for the test. Brands are ranked based on the average Overall Score for all of their current tested models. The Overall Score is a composite of a road-test score and the predicted reliability and owner satisfaction ratings from Consumer Reports’ Annual Auto Survey.

The Model S is the highest scoring car, with 100 on the road test, a 5/5 for owner satisfaction, and a 4/5 for predicted reliability. The Model X, however, scored 77 out of 100 on the road test, a 5/5 on owner satisfaction, and a 1/5 for reliability due to issues with the climate control system, body and trim, and in-car electrics.

Genesis, the luxury brand from Hyundai, edged Audi out of the top spot.
