A police department in Switzerland has decided to replace its diesel burning patrol cars with the all-electric Tesla Model X P100D.
Police in the canton of Basel-Stadt announced the plan last month and earned a shout-out from Elon Musk. “The Swiss police are smart. Electricity vs diesel & maintenance more than make up for purchase price diff. Plus, the bad guys will def not escape. That’s worth a lot …” he said in a tweet.

Basel-Stadt police said the decision was motivated by both economic and environmental considerations.
“The planned replacement of diesel combined vehicles with the Tesla Model X-100D brings several advantages in terms of economic efficiency, practicality and ecology,” the department said in a release.
Police departments in Luxembourg, Los Angeles, and Denver have also added Tesla’s to their fleets for both patrol cars and use by non-patrol personnel.
