Tesla’s Model 3 Performance Version is Rolling Off a New Assembly Line

The first dual motor performance version of the Tesla Model 3 has rolled off the company’s Fremont, Calif. assembly line.

Chief Executive Elon Musk shared a photo to Twitter of the vehicle, complete with the red brake calipers and white interior only available on the performance version of the car.

“Amazing work by Tesla team,” Musk tweeted. “Built entire new general assembly line in 3 weeks w minimal resources. Love u guys so much! Pic of 1st Model 3 dual motor performance coming off the line.”

It seems the new assembly line that Musk referenced is housed in a giant tent.

Tesla began taking orders for the dual-motor Model 3 last month, which has a range of 310 miles, a 0-60 mph time of 3.5 seconds, and a top speed of 155 mph. The car will cost $78,000 before adding Autopilot.

Musk previously said the company needs to achieve a production rate of 5,000 Model 3s a week before adding complexity to the manufacturing line. It’s a good sign that Model 3 production is ramping up.
