Tesla has started a program for employees to beta test the company’s Full Self-Driving suite, according to a report from Bloomberg.
Employees participating in the program would receive $13,000 worth of incentives including Autopilot, Full Self-Driving, and the Premium Upgrades Package, the report said.
Bloomberg cites an email Tesla Chief Executive Elon Musk sent to employees that explains the program. Tesla is looking for about 100 employees who own a Tesla to participate in the program and send 300 to 400 hours of real-world driving data to the Autopilot team this year.
Tesla is nearly two years behind on its promise of a Tesla with Full Self-Driving capability. Musk previously said the company would complete a drive from Los Angeles to New York using full self-driving by the end of 2017.
Tesla is currently rolling out its Version 9.0 software, which offers new Autopilot features such as Navigate on Autopilot that intelligently suggests lane changes to keep Tesla owners on route while making adjustments to avoid other slow vehicles on the road.
The fact that the company is pushing new Autopilot features and organizing a significant testing program is a good sign that the FSD feature may getting closer to being delivered to customers who have paid for it and found themselves frustrated in waiting.
