Tesla Energy Products Get a Price Cut

Tesla’s solar systems received a price cut Thursday of as much as 25 percent.

Prices for solar customers are now around $3,000 and $5,000 lower, representing savings of about 15 to 25 percent, Sanjay Shah, the company’s senior vice president of energy operations, told Reuters.

Tesla said in July it planned to increase efforts from its Tesla Energy division that produces products like the Powerwall and Solar Roof.

“It’s like with Model 3,” Tesla Chief Technology Officer JB Straubel told USA Today of demand for the solar products. “People have come flooding in and are waiting on the product. So now we’re aggressively ramping our capacity.”

Tesla Energy took a hit from the company’s restructuring earlier this year. More than a dozen Tesla solar facilities across nine states were shuttered and the company elected to not renew its partnership with Home Depot to sell Tesla Energy products.

The company hopes that lower prices will result in greater demand. “Every customer wants a greater value in terms of price,” Shah told Reuters. “When you do that the customer comes to you rather than you going to the customer.”
