Tesla Crash Lab Featured in New Video

Tesla released a video Tuesday that gives the first look inside the automaker’s “crash lab.”

The facility is used to evaluate Tesla vehicles in a variety of crash scenarios. To create the crashes, two Model S performance drive units attached to steel cables launch the cars 340 feet down a track.

Tesla also evaluates the performance of every vehicle component in simulated crashes, which are developed using sophisticated mathematical models.

Tesla’s vehicles have received high ratings and frequent accolades from testing organizations. For instance, the Model 3 received last month an Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Top Safety Pick+, which is the highest safety rating awarded by the the organization.
