Bloomberg Launches Model 3 Production Tracker

Since Tesla has elected not to report sales on a monthly basis like other automakers, it’s difficult to gauge improvements in the sluggish output of the Model 3.

To help piece the production picture together, Bloomberg has launched an online tool to estimate the number of Model 3s coming out of Tesla’s factory. The tracker leverages Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) to formulate estimates. The data is from official U.S. government resources, social media reports, and direct communication with Tesla owners.

According to Bloomberg:

For our estimate, we’ve aligned the two datasets with Tesla’s reported production and averaged the results from the two methods. Given the exponential trajectory of a production ramp up, there may be sudden increases in output that this model is slow to catch. We will continue to make adjustments to the model as Tesla publishes new production figures at the end of each quarter.

Bloomberg figures that Tesla has manufactured 7,341 Model 3s so far, and is now building approximately 1,025 a week.

You may remember that Bloomberg launched last year “The Future According to Elon Musk,” a site to track initiatives at the four companies Elon Musk is running – Telsa, SpaceX, The Boring Company, and Neuralink.
