Where is my MY?

My car is being shipped across the country (couldn't bear another 3100 mile, 7 day solo drive with a dog that pukes in the car ) and I'd like to use the app to see where it is. Right now it seems there's been no progress since last night and the "location" jumps between two addresses, both nearby and both residences rather than a parking lot as I would expect. I've shipped it once before and the location did not update and not accurate, if I remember correctly. Any insight much appreciated.

buying model Y with ETH?

I've finally decided to pull the trigger on a model Y and after test driving, choosing spec etc the dealer agreed to accept ethereum as a payment.
All good until this Friday when they've emailed me asking to provide an AML report (they suggested a known provider of aml reports for this) to prove the legitimacy of my coins. I did the check thinking it was just a formality but the aml report came back saying 92% of my ETH is somehow involved in illicit activities.
I didn't send them the report yet (waiting until tmro) but im thinking I should try another dealer ? Any advice for me ? Or should I just send them the report hoping they won't check thoroughly ?

Lesson for Tesla Owners - Tire Service from Tesla or not

Driving to the office in the morning, my wife's 2023 MY picked a nail, on the rear passenger side. She got an alert on her cell phone around 3 pm, the tire pressure was low - 32 PSI. I have her carry a portable inflator so asked her to fill it to 46 psi and drive to nearby America's Tire (In California that's what they call Discount Tire), which is around one mile away. She was not too sure so called Tesla Roadside assistance and the mobile tire service van arrived in an hour. The guy straight forward told her, he wouldn't patch it so the only thing he can do is replace the tire (approx. 8K miles on tire/car). Interestingly, he told her the tire was losing air very slowly so he could top it and she could take it to America's Tire and they may patch it, but he wouldn't. Wife being a wife - she said okay to replace the tire! So the Tesla service replaced the tire ($450 pop) and returned the old tire which I got patched for free. So have a look at the pictures guys and let me know what you think. IMO Tesla plays safe from liability reasons. There was no need to replace the tire. But I would like to hear what you guys think.

Also, let me know - should I leave the brand new tire there, as it is mixed with 8K old (but in great shape 7/32) tires, or shall I get the old one put back and keep brand new as a spare or future replacement where I would have to buy only three instead of four tires.

Italy Trip

Just got back from our trip to Lake Como. My plan was to go via one of Furka Pass but the owner of the Airbnb that we stayed at in Switzerland said "Oh, we've recently had lots of snow, lets check..." CLOSED! Instead we went via Simplon Pass and the car train through the mountain before it.

Our nearest Supercharger was about 50km away which meant that we were at the mercy of whatever local which wasn't great. In the town and most nearby were only 11kW. DC chargers, first one worked but not several days later. Tried one, only doing AC, next one totally dead. Next after that only delivery 36kW. We did visit a museum in Como and used a charger at the railway, that was reasonably cheap at 56p, only the second one I tried worked.
On the one day that we headed to Bergamo, the entire 20 stall Supercharger site was down and came back online when we where half way back to our accommodation. Grr.
Good trip though and some fun efficiency figures (current drive):-
IMG-20240512-WA0007.jpg

Route down was through France, overnight Airbnb in Bern so that we could do a leisurely trip across picture postcard Switzerland in the daytime. Route back was via Splugen Pass and through the Black Forest (Germany), Strasbourg and Belgium.

At Arlon Supercharger, we also previewed the new Mercedes Convertible EV (sarcasm of course):-

Returning home this morning, Octopus Agile gave us a treat too, right in time for a recharge from 14%!

Anyway, just sharing another "Trip to the local shops" because that's all these EV things are useful for. ;) Now thinking about where to go for the next one.

Tire shop damaged wheel

Hello all,

I got my new MYP end of April, when I took it next day the inspection shop damaged a wheel. Took a while but finally got them to order a new wheel and replace. They put it on yesterday and I’m noticing the color is off a bit from the others. Is that possible? The new one looks more dark grey compared to the other ones which are more of a medium grey. The car has about 600 miles on it.

Did the other 3 rims lighten up a bit from sun exposure or did Tesla change the color on some batches?

What car settings are needed for using SuperChargers?

I have only used a supercharger once so far and I'm not sure I was doing the right thing. At home, I use the wall connector. I have it set up on a 60 amp breaker and set the car setting for 48 amp.

Do I need to change that setting when using a supercharger? And if so, what should I change it to? Or does that setting only apply when use the wall connector?

Tesla Model Y - black Gemini wheel covers

I’ve got a Quicksilver MYLR due next week and I think it will look better with some black Gemini covers rather than silver ( two tone silver :-/ ). Looking for ones that cover the edges so no silver band.

Want to keep the aero so not looking for other styles.

Can anyone recommend based on experience?

Kavanic on Amazon do some but they are £250. Seems steep considering you can get them on eBay in some places for £80-ish.

NHTSA Recall 24V-035

I received a letter from Tesla in March regarding a recall 24V-035 where "insufficient inter-integrated circuit protocol stability may prevent the rearview camera image from displaying." The OTA fix "2023.44.30.7 or a later release incorporates sufficient inter-integrated circuit protocol stability to allow the rear-view camera image to display."

However, it's now May and I'm still running 2023.44.30.6 ... no updates are available per my car. My rear camera has blacked out several times when I'm in reverse, so this is a problem. Has anyone else received the recall fix?

Supercharger - Glenelg, SA

Don't get too excited by a new thread!

Just a holding location for some info that was posted in the midst of the shitstorm of the last couple of weeks. This was in the comment of a post on a FB group. After the email yesterday I tried to find it again, took me quite a while, so copying the info to a thread here so it doesn't get lost.

OP phrases the post as if he is an employee of the council, and I can't find anything on public record on the council website, so have anonymised his identity for now.

Partridge Street Carpark, Partridge St, Glenelg SA 5045

It might end up going nowhere, so I won't add it to supercharge.info just yet.

2024.14.6 problem

Got the update to 2024.14.6 yesterday before first drive. Both yesterday and today, after about 2 hours in the sun at about 90F, all safety features, regen braking, autopilot, and hold at stop were disabled with continuous warnings on the screen. It said it "may" be restored for the next drive. Moving to park and doing a soft reboot had no effect. After several hours of cooler temps yesterday it came back. After being in the grocery store for 45 min (still hot) today it came back. The car drove without trouble, although the coasting felt very strange vs normal.

I just moved the autopilot setting back from FSD (monitored) to lane keeping (the middle setting) to see if that affects it.

If this happens again I will report it here and tell Tesla about it (request service?) in the app.

Help a potential new MYLR understand [why I cant get promo apr applied to existing order]

Put Y on order a week ago with promise from SA delivery would occur within a few days. Advised by SA they couldn’t deliver. Given new date of 14th. Modified vacation for 14th pickup. 0.9% financing promotion surfaced. Asked to apply new financing offer as I qualified. Told I’d have to cancel. Unknown if $250 can be recovered. Unknown if trade in value will remain the same. Unknown delivery date. Why not simply apply new financing to order that’s ready and waiting? Seems nonsensical. Financing 16k for 4 years with a 841 CS. Am I missing something? Hell… I probably could have been talked into an upgrade or two… maybe a MYP…
Nope. Back of the line. You’ll known something when we do. Pickup location is Jacksonville FL.

Abrupt Phantom Breaking at high speed - scary

I recently purchased a 2022 Model 3 Performance that had about 10,000 miles on it and had been owned by two previous owners. I had been enjoying the car until the other night, when I experienced a braking incident while driving at 80 mph on the highway using FSD (latest update).

Scene:
- Nighttime on a dark highway
- I don't remember seeing an overpass

I was using FSD, relaxing and watching the road, when suddenly the car slammed on the brakes. The speed dropped to 40 mph before I disengaged the FSD and sped back up. My passengers were horrified, and if there had been a car behind us, we would have been in serious trouble.

Why did this happen, and how can I prevent this in the future?

This is MY idea, you can't have it!

So after neglecting my tire rotation (to the point of having to buy new tires a season early), I have a neato-peato idea. Tesla, name it after me, please. And a thank-you from Elon would be great, too.

Why can't Tesla add a button/app on the odometer screen of every Tesla that allows you to trigger a pop-up message every so many miles (mileage and text message of your choosing). This way I could setup a reminder every 5,000 miles (for example) to say "Rotate tires". Or to setup another reminder, say annually or every 10,000 miles for "get an alignment". I simply don't remember to write down the mileage when I rotate my tires, so a reminder app based on time or mileage would be VERY helpful. Another enhancement: trigger a message at a particular mileage point, something like when you reach 100,000 miles, take in for service.

For even more sophistication, you could setup a small history grid that shows, for example, the miles and date you bought new tires, performed some sort of maintenance, etc. A Tesla can even detect when you've rotated/swapped your tires by the movement of the TMPS sensors. The historical list is less likely to get implemented, it's just an extension of my first idea.

[UK] Does FSD have any second-hand value?

For those who sold their Tesla privately:-

If you paid for FSD or EAP when you bought the car, do you think you got any of that money back when you sold it? I'm actually scouting around for a used Model 3 and would quite like EAP, but would probably pay a smidgen more for FSD at this point on the assumption that we might get involved in the beta in the next few years.

New MY order with cracked windscreen

Hello, I’ve ordered my new MY Tesla, just awaiting the delivery date.

However Tesla have said that my MY has a cracked screen incurred during shipping, which they are replacing now.

Question is, should I continue and accept this new Tesla, with windscreen getting fixed OR get a perfect one with no issues instead from the factory?

Thanks guys

carbon fiber rear spoiler deterioration

The attached pic is my CFS which I bought and fitted 2 years back. Whilst I would be happy to pay to replace this with a ‘good’ one I can’t see that I have anything to lose by having a go at fixing this (a short term remedy but easier).

I found this (vey helpful) post on the Tesla forum
Anyone repair/repaint faded clearcoat on the carbon fiber rear spoiler?.

In that post they say:
1. Apply a high-quality automotive primer
2. Select a clearcoat paint specifically designed for automotive applications. Look for a clearcoat that is UV-resistant

Can you name for those products (a name I can search for any buy)?

Has anyone her (UK) had any (repair / replace) experiences they can share that I can learn from ?

(Before you ask . . . . the answer is NO this is not an OEM product. I bought in on Aliexpress (£100) and at the time argued with myself that all these things (including the car) are made in China so cut out the middle-man. And I have read numerous stories of OEM CFS’s going the same way i.e. I could shell out beacoup bucks for a new replacement OEM spoiler and see the same thing 2 year from now) (Please don’t de-rail this post with self righteous ‘should have known better and paid Tesla to do it’ posts)

Kia EV6 GT Line AWD compared to my Tesla Model Y LR

For those interested I will post my comparison of the two EVs. I have now spent approx 2 hours driving plus quite a bit of research of the Kia EV6 recently, as I am very interested in getting another EV, so I think I have a little knowledge on the subject. Now both comparisons are AWD models from both companies with similar size batteries from memory.

So I will post what I think are the negatives of the EV6 first:

Capacity of the interior for luggage including Frunk and under the floor at the rear. No comparison here I think.

Although Kia are aggressively trying to price the EV6 to compete with the Model Y I think Tesla with their recent price drops are cheaper from what I see ATM. But the new EV5 which maybe available here soon may reverse this trend.

Access to the full Tesla Supercharger network is not applicable at this stage and what Superchargers are available, because of the 800 volt architecture, derates what is a impressive charging speed at suitable chargers that can handle the EV6's characteristics.

I think Tesla's Navigation software is probably better but having access to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto this may make this negative mute.

Having to service the car yearly maybe considered a negative.

Positives of the EV6 IMO:

7 year warranty.

Suspension is noticeable better I think. Kia sending engineers to tune the suspension to Australian road conditions shows here I think. I wish Tesla did the same.

I spoke previously here about how I consider the MY having too low a steering ratio to make a good handling car at higher speeds and especially for inexperienced drivers. The EV6 is far better in this regard IMO.

The radar based adaptive cruise control of the EV6 is far better than what Tesla are using on my Model Y IMHO. It truly was a pleasure to use.

Self steering or what may be considered lane centering. Ok Tesla around sharper corners is better ie holds its line more consistent. But, and this is a big BUT IMO, there are other attributes that make Kia's system far better to use I think. These are:

A capacitive steering wheel it seems ie just lightly grip the wheel when warnings are transmitted to driver instead of adding a certain amount of torque for the Tesla to show you are still attentive.

The ability to correct the line of the Kia without disconnecting self steering ie say you see a pothole ahead that you will hit staying in the centre of the lane. Just steer around it then head back towards the centre and self steering reapplies. It was even possible to leave the system on all the time and have it apply itself any time you wanted ie around town etc. Also taking a racing line around sharper corners was especially nice to achieve I think or moving over pre-emptively to overtake large trucks then back to self steering in the centre of the lane. A great and confidence inspiring system I think.

I have other commitments now but will try to finish this later.

How will s and x models that have no cabin camera handle 12.4 getting rid of steering wheel nag?

With 12.4 on the way and Elon stating it will get rid of steering wheel nag where do you think this will leave S and X owners with FSD that have no in cabin cameras?

Do you think the nag will still apply to s and x owners that don't have the in cabin cameras?

Maybe reduce the nag but not get rid of it for these subset of users?

Please give your input.

It will be interesting.

Bouncing clunk type noise after Koni Special Active Install

Back at the end of March, I installed Koni Special Active shocks on my otherwise stock 2020 Model Y Dual motor.
I have this clunk, bouncing, bump sound over small bumps coming from the front end. I can hear it at low speeds, but this could be because of other noises at higher speeds (not sure).

I have checked all the torques related to the install and they are all tight. I have had a shop look at it as well and come to the same conclusion.

I have recently replaced all my front lower control arms and they look good.

The upper control arms do not have play or make any noise either. For good measure, I replaced both the nut and the bolt on the connection to the upper control arm ball joint.

I removed the end links completely from the car and the sound remains. They also do not have any play.

The upper strut bolt was installed holding the rod in place with a 5mm Allen key on a ratchet.

Has anyone else come across this before and possibly have a solution?

I have a few videos of the sound, but am not sure how to upload it.

One video is from the steering wheel, and two more from each of the front wheel wells. I can hear the bumping sound in both wheel wells.
