Towing with the new 16v battery

I don't have my Model Y anymore, but the brake controller that I had installed was just your average, cheapo brake controller. Nothing fancy, and I didn't research voltages. I didn't think that voltage even mattered for the controller signaling wire, anyway... it would really just affect the aux...

    Washington State Vehicle Sales

It is outselling the truck for sure.... Which is funny to me, as I think the truck looks much better. But people want three rows of seats, I guess...

    Washington State Vehicle Sales

I was one of those Rivian purchases - wife and I got an R1T towards the end of the month. Nice to see that Rivian has a general upward trend in Washington state. Which makes sense to me, as I feel like they are gonna position themselves as the EV version of Subaru in the future (crossing fingers...

Supercharger - Burley, ID - Pomerelle Ave

Considering there's one nearly-the-whole-state-long North-South route, it's really sad that they still have blinders on about it. And it's a US Highway too!
  5. VandalSibs

Supercharger - Burley, ID - Pomerelle Ave

There really needs to be more North-South chargers in Idaho. I do wonder if it's Tesla just not able to get agreements for land use, or if they just don't care to try...

Uhhhhh, what? There's ten different Superchargers between Portland and Spokane, on the I84/I82/US395/I90 route alone!

For sale Official CCS to Tesla Adapter

Gently used (maybe plugged in three times?) official CCS to NACS adapter. Don't have the original box anymore, but this is at a like-new state. Looking for $200+ shipping (if not local), or best offer. EDIT - didn't realize that I mis-matched the prices for the listing and description, so now...

    Meta: New 100kw+ NACS Chargers

In my opinion, as NACS actually becomes the standard, we're gonna have less of a need to track these things anyway (how many people are tracking the construction of new gas stations?). I'm personally curious about all new chargers, but I think that if there's a real interest in tracking that...

Supercharger - Liberty Lake, WA (LIVE Mar 2022, 12 V3 stalls)

Post your Travel trailer that you tow with your Y

If you're talking about the inTech Sol Dawn, mine clocks in at about 2,700lbs dry, and my wife and I don't overload it in any way. Within the tow rating for a Model Y for sure - about 800 lbs under it, in fact.

    Supercharger- Seattle, WA - Meridian Ave N (under construction Jan 2024, 12 V3 + L2)

    Supercharger- Seattle, WA - Meridian Ave N (under construction Jan 2024, 12 V3 + L2)

Towing travel trailer with Model Y

Indeed, and I think the latest "towing" update for Rivian trucks & SUVs do just this.... minus the driving profile bit. You can have different trailer profiles. Again, I don't have a Rivian, but would really like to...

Towing travel trailer with Model Y

Yeah, that's pretty much what I mean - after a little bit of driving, it re-calculates route and charging stops because it notices that the power usage is way off of expected. Currently I tow a 2,800ish lbs, 16-foot camping trailer. When I pull with that, I'm getting anywhere between 500-750...

Towing travel trailer with Model Y

With the five total towing drives I did this year, the trip planner would adjust after about five or so minutes on the freeway, if not sooner. Yeah, it doesn't know from the start that you are towing (which is weird, as putting it into tow mode should at least do something in regards to trip...

    Supercharger - Leavenworth, WA - US-2 (LIVE 30 Oct 2023, 8 V3 stalls)

Which leads to a bit of weirdness with the Sprague, WA charger..... it's much closer to Tokio, WA than Sprague. Addresses are weird. Granted, there's most likely about five people and a cow in in Tokio, compared to the 460-ish in Sprague.

FYI - Walla Walla to Moscow/Pullman and Back

The parking meter itself said that it was enforced Monday-Friday. It's pretty standard for parking on the University of Idaho campus, even the Gold lots that are the most expensive permit ($400+ dollars a year now!). Been like this since I was a student there in 2004.
  21. VandalSibs

FYI - Walla Walla to Moscow/Pullman and Back

I was just there this weekend (Homecoming 2023!), and can confirm that it's a normal parking meter - which on campus doesn't need to be paid on the weekends... so, free charging.
  22. VandalSibs

Post your Travel trailer that you tow with your Y

I haven't been towing anywhere near as long (only this year, in fact), but I second this. My wife and I have unhitching & re-hitching down to a science for our charging stops - and that's without a powered tongue jack!

How long did it take to receive WA plates?

Last year it took about three or four months to get mine. There was literally a delay in the making of the physical plates. Tesla (or the state, can't remember for sure) ended up sending me at least one new temp tag before the original expired.

    Supercharger - Coeur d'Alene, ID (LIVE Feb 2015, 6 V2 + 8 V3 stalls)

I would think that something actually east of CdA would be useful too. For example, I've always been kinda surprised that a supercharger wasn't installed in Kellogg, as it's a tourist-y place (big ski resort there), and it's between two mountain passes. Heck, there's an EA charger at the Walmart...

FYI - Walla Walla to Moscow/Pullman and Back

During the week parking rules are in effect on campus, but not on weekends...... that's how it was when I attended, and last I saw when I was there in October. EDIT: And then I actually read the map..... interesting. I neither had to pay nor was ticketed when I used it for five or so hours...

FYI - Walla Walla to Moscow/Pullman and Back

There's also a free L2 charger in Moscow hidden behind the College of Natural Resources building on campus. The driveway into it is funky, right next to Line St., but don't turn on Line St.... For some reason they are not listed on Plugshare, but I used it back in October when I was in town for...

Model Y tow hitch rise limitation

Here's what I ended up doing: Anti-rattle hitch clamp, standard pin and cotter pin. I cut a notch out of the plastic under the ball mouth receiver so that the clamp would fit.
  29. VandalSibs

Model Y tow hitch rise limitation

I'm pretty new to towing a trailer (as an adult, there were lots of family camping trips when I was a kid). The only stuff that worries me with the towing in the last six months (since I got this trailer) has been road conditions - lots of potholes in my neighborhood. Otherwise, with research...

Model Y tow hitch rise limitation

Yeah, I'm not sure about that. I'm also not familiar with a rocker ball - I'll have to look that up!
  31. VandalSibs

Model Y tow hitch rise limitation

The manual does show the requirements for the ball mount: A 3/4 inch rise is the most it allows. And the length is specified too. Does the foot of your trailer's jack allow it to be removed? The one on my Sol Dawn does, which gives things a little bit more clearance.... but I'm not familiar...

    Potential outlet splitter/sharing with RV

Yeah, that was essentially the jist of things when I asked the same question on the "Ask An Electrician" subreddit (which is super fun to read, actually!) I have this habit of looking for the coolest, techy-ist solutions to a problem that I've already solved in a simplier manner. The trailer...

    Potential outlet splitter/sharing with RV

Similar to this thread, I'm wondering about a potential split-use of an 14-50 outlet in my garage. Here's the jist of things: Detached garage with a dedicated 50amp circuit run to it for charging my car. Having seen the smart splitters that let you do power sharing between two EVs, I was...

Towing travel trailer with Model Y

To elaborate more for Mr. buckets, the brake controller has its own pin on a 7-way connector. It is not reliant on the 12v aux line/pin if you are using a normal, non-wireless brake controller.
  36. VandalSibs

Towing with the new 16v battery

It would need to be stepped down, but it hasn't yet for whatever reason. That's why it's non-functional on the Model Y's that use that particular battery. It's the same line/pin that would power a wireless brake controller.
  37. VandalSibs

Towing with the new 16v battery

As long as the brake controller uses the wiring (and pigtail that you have to buy from Tesla separately for about 5 bucks), then things should be good. But if it's a wireless/Bluetooth/RF controller, then it requires power from the 12v pin at the trailer plug, and that doesn't currently work for...

Post your Travel trailer that you tow with your Y

No worries, sometimes text communications don't get the idea across.... weird, I know. Luckily, my trailer is pre-wired for a backup cam, just have to order it and hook it up.
  40. VandalSibs

Post your Travel trailer that you tow with your Y

I was asking about the camera power source as the newer Y's (and the rest of Tesla's range I believe) use Li-Ion low voltage batteries and the 12v "aux" line at the hitch is not currently functional (tested at the dealership before we picked up). All the other connections work (lights, brake...

Hate to resurrect an old thread, but does anyone recommend any particular rear-view mirror extensions? Wife and I are pulling an inTech Sol Dawn and would love to have a little better visibility behind us... We're looking into a remote backup cam for it (the RV is pre-wired for it, we just...

Towing travel trailer with Model Y

My wife and I did some testing today, pulling our Sol Dawn with our Tesla Model Y. Some interesting numbers that I'm pretty happy about. We never drove faster than 63mph (and we don't plan on driving more than 60mph anyway), and it was anywhere between 39 and 43 degrees out - so the battery...

Model Y tow hitch rise limitation

Sorry to being this back up, but almost all of those anti-rattle clamps run into one problem on a Model Y.... The plastic surrounding the hitch receiver, and the depth of the receiver inside the car. I had bount a clamp on one without really thinking about the plastic, and I'm now trying to...

    Gemini wheel covers

Think we used one & half or two? It was back in June, so I don't totally remember. The tape was just to protect the Tesla emblem in the middle, it was removed once the paint was dry. There is no tape on the covers at all now. So far, they have held up wonderfully - been a snowy winter here in...

    Supercharger - Sammamish, WA (LIVE 12 Mar 2024, 8 V3 stalls)

From a psuedo-selfish perspective, that's okay, as Helena is my sister's end destination for her runs into Montana anyway. If that one were to be retrofitted, between it and the EA charger in Missoula, she would be more than set.
  47. VandalSibs

    Supercharger - Sammamish, WA (LIVE 12 Mar 2024, 8 V3 stalls)

Wonder how hard it's gonna be to retrofit these to already existing stations... my sister drives an ID.4, and would love for the superchargers in Montana to open up - would make her runs to there from Washington a lot easier.
