Car guy coming from an ICE

One thing I've learned from reading these forums is that the consensus is that "performance" is taken to mean drag strip times. However, that's not the kind of performance I'm interested in, but rather things like road feel, grip around turns, agility and endurance. Those attributes are among...

Fake news never ceases to amaze me

Neither the article writer nor the organization presented this as news, but rather an opinion based on rationalization for a short sell of the stock. SA actually has a separate news feed with news.

Fake news never ceases to amaze me

lol, if you ever wondered where the discernment level is at. There wouldn't be a market for "fake news" without such blind bias.
  4. Z

Fake news never ceases to amaze me

lol again the incredible lack of discernment of what constitutes "news" is amazing. Btw, I typed in "Model 3" without "news" and got the seeking alpha article search result as well. Is that really how you go about finding news sources, or are you also being willfully ignorant?

Fake news never ceases to amaze me

Many of you guys are actually false framing these opinion pieces as if they were purported to be news in the first place. They obviously aren't, so can't be considered "fake news". Almost embarrassing to have to point something like this out to folks. Anton Wahlman is a private investor writing...

Model 3 entry via ... keycard & app. No fob.

What is the quality of such a measurement though?
  7. Z

Model 3 entry via ... keycard & app. No fob.

How does that address distance? What if you wanted to lock it again? Like you forgot something in the car, or simply wanted to put something in it and leave again?
  8. Z

Model 3 entry via ... keycard & app. No fob.

I can't see how it could accurately determine range, even if you calibrated it for your particular device. Too many random environmental factors influence how far that signal would carry. Also, what if you don't want to unlock the car? How could it possibly know if you wanted to lock or unlock...

Your M3 price vs. your disposable income

The people I have asked why they paid cash instead of investing the money typically do not want to risk losing on the investment.

Your M3 price vs. your disposable income

I hear that a lot about Penfed customer service. However, I'm glad I didn't use them for my last loan as I would have wasted (to me) over $200. Apparently, some people would want to "reward" such good customer service by giving them that extra $200, but I don't really understand why.
  11. Z

Model 3 entry via ... keycard & app. No fob.

What about just having a fob or card in the pocket and touch the car to unlock or lock? Wouldn't that be easier as you wouldn't have to hold the device or use an app at all?
  12. Z

Your M3 price vs. your disposable income

Lightstream was offering 1.74% for 5yr new car loan only a few months ago. The only string was an automatic withdrawal. However, it still would have been under 2% without the automatic withdrawal. Penfed seems to have one of the best currently at 1.9%.

[POLL] Untapped 0-60 performance in the LR today? With only OTA-SOFTWARE the car could...

This same question has been brought up a few times before on here, and no one knew then either. At the time it was merely reasonable speculation that there could be some margin for power increase. Now the question has been promoted to speculation on how much margin, but with no additional...

Your M3 price vs. your disposable income

Generally outliers, just like the stocks that quadrupled or more in value. Speaking of outliers, my favorite investment was the return on the $10,000 invested in Mobileye as a startup. If it was only that easy.
  15. Z

Your M3 price vs. your disposable income

That's a good rate. From where, and how many months? Also, at what interest rate would you consider it better to pay cash rather than invest? Looking at the market for the past 5 years (e.g. qqq stock - Google Search), you could actually have doubled your money and be driving a free car. So...

Will there be a ludicrous mode option?

Kind of surprised the performance version of the car only involves motor changes (and power delivery). You'd think there would be stuff like suspension, wheels, tires, and cooling enhancements.

    Tesla multi-phone bluetooth?

Since 2011, up to 4 phones may be paired on a BMW. However, only 3 of the 4 can have a simultaneous active connection to the car. Among those 3, only one can be selected for hands-free (HFP).

Tesla Model 3 vs BMW 3 Series (Electrek)

Are you sure a buyer would purchase a 330i and add all the options vs buying a 340i where many of those options are standard? I know a loaded 2-series cost more than an M2 with all the options and you get less of a car.

Difference between Model 3 and its competitors?

Believe it or not, they don't exist yet. The only source I could find was the Motor Trend pre-review from a reviewer who focuses on EV and hybrid cars. The other reviews were from tech journalists, other non industry writers, or sites that quoted their reviews. Sure the car has a lot of tech, so...

    Aluminum Panels?

Even the 2 series is 3500 lbs. But actually, they are introducing more carbon fiber with an expected 50-100kg drop for new model next year.
  22. Z

Difference between Model 3 and its competitors?

No offense but I'd rather hear from someone familiar with the wider auto industry, who isn't an evangelist and TSLA stock holder. That's a sure way to get a hugely biased review.

    Wiki Model 3 delivery estimator

I'd imagine that companies tend to provide better financing rates for the models they want to sell more of. BMW definitely does this. Tesla is also not talking Model 3 leases for some reason, although this should be a very popular option for buyers due to the changing tech. The lease info will...

EPA range estimates for Long Range Model 3

Looks like we'll have to wait until EPA updates their website or Tesla releases the long-range EPA estimate. I don't see another possibility.

Canada Model 3 Website not updated yet...

Ironically, the site is defaulting to Canada.
  30. Z

    Devil is in the detail

If Tesla won't go into detail on what you actually are buying for some reason, I think we'll eventually have some magazine reviews that will do this analysis. I look forward to a more objective and informational review of the car. You're sure not going to get one on a fan website.

    Elon's Model 3 Deception

hence the questions. Not in the market for a 340i. Btw, I don't think you yourself know how the M3's keyless entry works.
  32. Z

    Elon's Model 3 Deception

Hey it is a useful feature. You definitely can't compare the cameras that aren't available to the user. The safety features are overall better in the Model 3, however. How will the sound systems compare? What is "BT auto unlock"? Are you sure about that? In addition to keyless, that BMW also...

    Elon's Model 3 Deception

But one wouldn't compare the 330i with the 49k Model 3. The comparison would obviously be with something like the $48k 340i (Home - BMW North America) with the $49K Model 3. The last 3 series I owned was a $53k 2013 Activehybrid 3 MSport, 0-60 5s, 155mph limit, HUD, bird's eyeview + sideview...

What is the web browser webkit version on the Model 3?

I guess the idea is that you can bring your own "infotainment" and use that while the car is self driving.
  36. Z

    Elon's Model 3 Deception

what is the epa highway range for the model 3?
  37. Z

Price gouging continues on the 3. Can't say I'm surprised.

Seems fair to charge the same for same parts and capability. Not smart to drop the price lacking competitive pressure.
  38. Z

When is your Dual Motor All-Wheel Drive due for delivery, mine is in late 2018?

Good news is that far-out date provides time for spaceship and HUD enhancements.

Model 3 entry via ... keycard & app. No fob.

Then it wouldn't be offering the convenience of "keyless" entry.
  41. Z

Model 3 entry via ... keycard & app. No fob.

You would not use Bluetooth in such a manner because the range is way too long. Anyone could get into your car from like up to a football field away potentially, just because the signal was there.
  42. Z

Model 3 entry via ... keycard & app. No fob.

Exactly, that is what "keyless" usually means. But I don't see an indication that's what will be provided. The phone app may be useful if you locked the fob in the car though.
  43. Z

Nothing very special about 0-60 times?

For low optioned yes, for high optioned no. We still don't know about the "P" version, but presumably it will cost even more.
  44. Z

Price gouging continues on the 3. Can't say I'm surprised.

Everyone should understand this point and it would be stupid of Tesla to not take advantage of their current position. It will also greatly help them invest in even lower cost tech for the future - a future which will be much more competitive by design.
  45. Z

    Oh well...

It's very important info for Tesla to help manage expectations. This is a PR event, and a support/empathy event for the team (most of audience are involved with production).
  46. Z

    Speedometer

You are missing a great deal of discussion in past threads discussing this issue ad nauseum. Tesla addressed the lack of speedometer gauge by indicating the speed on the central display - as close to your driving vision as possible.
  47. Z

Amazed at all the 'disappointment ' threads

No, I'm saying that the performance variant of the Model 3 would need to be under 4.5s from a value/dollar standpoint. I don't see why it wouldn't be achievable technically. The comparably lower weight will help significantly.
  48. Z

Nothing very special about 0-60 times?

fastestlaps.com should provide the closest numbers for performance-oriented cars.
  49. Z

Amazed at all the 'disappointment ' threads

That doesn't make sense as Tesla would want a high profit margin for the P variant. 4.5s would not justify the option at their price point, simply due to competitor's offerings.
  50. Z

Nothing very special about 0-60 times?

How would you go about doing a proper, objective feature comparison between the 3 and its would-be competition?
