this decision boggles my mind. I did a demo drive of a new 3 and was forced into 1 pedal driving and the slow speed maneuvering is way worse with the car always trying to come to a complete stop. Free rolling under 5mph is so much better and I have no idea why they don't let the driver choose...

Agreed, but with the nuance that legacy auto leans on dealer network to hold that inventory. Tesla certainly has less buffer room as direct to consumer to get it off their books and really needs to get the demand thing right. So far it seems they are doing it quite well.

If you wan to "keep the range" just put smaller wheels on the performance. As of right nows design anyway, they would get the same range.
