Tesla's Supercharger Team was recently laid off. We discuss what this means for the company on today's TMC Podcast streaming live at 1PM PDT. You can watch on X or on YouTube where you can participate in the live chat.
@bart513, sites like Bring a Trailer track prices over time:
Roadster
Orig Roadster should be unaffected by S/X, as it is far more rare. Even the follow-on Roadster (2025?) is late!
A specific segment of potential buyers might be stockholders/fans who intend to use cap gains to buy the car...
Sold for $85,600 - not bad! This was basically a low-milage glider, right?
Needed new ESS and had some door sill oxidation from nearby gold cart fire (or something)...
Sig 74 was a tough act to follow, low VIN and low miles. Even so, not many white ones out there lately... seems like it should do better. $85k feels like pricing of 11-12 years ago.
Thanks for sharing!
BAT listed as "Racing Green", however it is Signature Green based on the pics/video and also prior posts on sig#77 exhibited at Petersen:
Roadster History North America
Current bid $169,420 w 4 days remaining, def interesting to watch...
2011 Tesla Roadster Sport R80 3.0
VIN#1418 with R80 (CAC 182.35), 69k miles, jet black over black leather. Current bid $69,690 w 20 hrs remaining on BAT.
2008 Tesla Roadster R80 3.0
Validation Prototype #22 with R80 upgrade going relatively unnoticed on BAT, bid only ~$42k heading into last couple of hours of the listing.
49k miles, CAC 183.36 Ah, electric blue over gray leather.
As we've seen, Tesla has been consolidating a bit on the service centers handling Roadsters. Thought we could use a thread to post/update the current state of local Roadster service nearby each of us.
My location: Mercer County, NJ.
Current service location: Devon PA, about 52 miles away...
Paint code should be listed on the VIN label inside or underneath the glove box:
Roadster paint colors
The larger thread is about comparing and compiling the paint codes. Good luck.
@eHorses beat me to it. My switchpack went bad with that code many years back:
Dead Roaster - switchpack?
(If you enter that code into the Search bar and limit to this forum, you will see other hits as well).
I'm a fan of Sig Green on my car, would never change it.
Link below is a video detailing of Founders #19 (not mine) when it was still Signature Green. Shows the color dirty & clean in fairly low lighting, so more subtle than the pic above:
In contrast, Tesla's most recent published app from July is or novel electrolytes for Li-metal / anode-free batteries:
United States Patent Application: 0200220220
Quick 2 cents - that PCT app connects to a much larger family which has issued patents in all IP5 markets. Don't know how practical/deployed the tech is, or how tied to Tesla, but there is a decent amount of patenting going on.
In U.S., Amprius has 25 issued patents, the most recent of which...
Hi Dave, I don't know if Tesla is handling things differently for the Model Y, but for Model 3 there was some priority for previous owners. As 2nd owner of a Roadster, I was able to get my car a few months earlier than non-owners from same region ordering the first production config (i.e., LR...
That's correct, still shows Y2K.
Can I reach out to you circa March/April on the cable loan offer? I intend to get preventive replacement of the coolant pump around that time (same one over 8+ yrs in my hands), so that's the next checkpoint if TSLA is ready to field the rollover issue...
The GPS / date issue was acknowledged on my invoice but not resolved. No bill for it. The formal statement was: "The firmware update and harness to complete this is not available at this time".
I had initially sent a link to this TMC thread when reaching out to RoadsterNA email box in late...
Thanks for the offer on this. If I were at all handy I might say yes.
Also, I must apologize in coming up empty on two counts - trying to get a tech service bulletin # to report to the group here, and the GPS sensor version in my car. I did not get to talk to the tech directly, so I think...
Adding my info, if at all helpful:
Roadster shows GPS issue, date is May 2000. U.S. Founders#25, assembled 24 July 2008. Do not know what version of GPS sensor I have.
Last service was late 2018. Expect to address as part of next service TBD in 1Q. (I often go ~18 months between...
I used Plycar as well, recommended by Tesla, treated a bit like a CPO ahead of the program. Enclosed transport, good communication. Chicago --> NJ ~$1325 / 3 days in early 2012.
@smicker, congrats and good luck!
Thanks, @patelhiren. I was lucky in the timing when I was ready to buy. On google maps for Devon, a user posted a nighttime pic of it while in for service ~3 yrs ago.:)
I don't know if the Lawrence SC will get its own Roadster technician, so F#25 might only show up there for occasional...
Bit more history:
When I got my Roadster at the start of 2012, the only NJ service option would have been in Manhattan. (Since I was buying it from Chicago, got the annual done there before shipping the car to NJ).
The original Philly SC (Norristown, PA) appeared about a year later, which...
Make sure have at least 30 A charging, esp in summer - Roadster gives off a lot of heat when charging, and it is not managed well on a regular 120V 15A. Check that you are ok with the low driving position for highways esp w traffic and trucks. Get all season tires or 2nd set of wheels+tires for...
I think they should've put the snowflake in directly... right now the reader has to click through to winter driving tips:
Watch for the Snowflake Icon
When your battery is cold, a blue snowflake alert may appear next to your displayed range. This means some of the energy stored in your battery...
This.^ @PFLeFaou, had you taken this pack down to low state of charge previously, or was this first major road trip with it?
I don't recall the number, but taking the Roadster to low state of charge (down to ~20% on one key turn?) and then charging fully has been described as a way to...
Quick fly-by lat last night - entrance still coned off. Tesla sign/lettering is on the building. Seems filled / furnished and otherwise ready to go.
I would have expected them to open by now to at least help deliveries (if not service), but it feels like that's punted to the new year.
To put...
Time sequence:
11/25 - received Jerome's email (dedicated channel, RSNA email box)
11/30 - sent a service request email to RSNA
12/2 - received email from RSNA acknowledging request, saying local SC would reach out
12/3-12/7 - crickets
12/7 - sent reminder email to RSNA, noting SC has not been...
Gruber Power appears to have a pack. Link::https://www.gruberpower.com/Roadster-Battery-Pack
There are threads here on TMC about them, as well as videos on YouTube. (I have no experience with them, but just sharing the info).
I have no sign of the email. Owner and service customer since early 2012.
Roadster has been in MyTesla account for the last few years, ahead of Model 3.
@Roadster, I had to check using my smartphone camera, reverse angle, using it to look "up" from within the passenger footwell of my 1.5. The label was perhaps 6" from the front.
In a 2.5, I'd also check the surfaces inside the glovebox. (Other 2.5 owners can comment on location for theirs...)
Correcting self - I actually do have this label! Needed to reach further into the passenger footwell and feel bottom panel of dash to locate it, then take picture with smartphone. It's further back than the bottom of the dash storage "slot' in the 1.5's.
For Signature Green, the...
Others may know this, but according to the owner's manual each Roadster's paint code should be located on one of the VIN labels around the glovebox, or in the 'slot' of the same area in 1.5's. (As 2nd owner of my Roadster, I've not spotted this on mine, and might not have it).
@TEG, I think it's this one from #206 that looks metallic to me:
It looks a bit like a Lotus Elise in (one version of) Racing Green, which apparently is metallic Lotus paint code B86:
Some additional links on this metallic version of Lotus Racing Green:
The Lotus Racing Green Thread -...
@TEG, thanks for all the great pics of green roadsters, very cool to see. Those all look like Tesla Racing Green to me, save for #300 and the Sig Green you just posted.
I was diving into Sig Green topics a few weeks ago and discovered this thread matching Tesla and Lotus paint codes from...
From earlier today, used CAN SR to charge at Americana Diner in East Windsor, NJ, which I don't recall trying before with the Roadster. They have two S/X/3 destination chargers, as well as a J1772 from Clipper Creek. VDS showed 196V 64A.
Imho the CAN SR remains the single most useful piece of...
Yes, you can open Model 3's trunk first. I did it just yesterday at Wegmans.
With phone key working, walk up to the trunk first and pull the handle up. (There may be a short wait for wake-up/pair with the phone, similar to what the doors do, but it does work).
I never saw a schematic, but this thread had fairly close-up pics:
Looking for Tesla parts - 12V "switchpack"
It took some time to find a match several years ago when mine when bad. It convinced me that this is one of the top obscure proprietary parts that Tesla should be making spares of, in...
I have to admit, I've come across the same feedback in a commercial real estate context in the past year... in our case we did not move forward for reasons unrelated to it. The gist was that things take longer than expected, but they aren't impossible to work with.
I found the 2016 Prius to be huge improvement on 2007 Prius even for that.... But Model 3 is definitely another level of solid with all the extra weight down low.
