Russia/Ukraine conflict

Looks more like a conventional turbofan, with 2 lateral air intakes forward of the rear engine bay. These drones operate in the low- to mid-subsonic regime (below Mach 0.75); Scramjets typically need Mach 6+ to create enough ram air compression to sustain combustion.

The 'new hottest' with this french drone is going to be all about what's in that optical seeker head (and the AI cpu which powers the guidance computuer). It's time folks. True fire'n'forget, shoot'n'scoot, all-u-can-eat.
Yeah, those wings don't look like they'd hold up well to Mach 4+. They don't look designed for loitering either. Maybe it gets a rocket boost initially then uses jet/turbofan power to reach it's target.

With growing Russian imperialism, the old, recently added, and soon to be added Nordic NATO members should be able to handle this threat in their backyard:

The Sovjet/USSR/Russia hawks have come with similar outbursts about Svalbard from time to time all my life.

There is one shabby looking Russian town - Barentsburg - not connected by roads to the main Norwegian population - Longyearbyen. Interesting enough the population in Barentsburg is 90% Ukrainians and 10% Russians. It's a coal mining town.

Do the Russian's actually want to start a war with all of NATO over a population of less than 423 Russians who are probably living a better life than most Russians back home?

I'll guess thw imperialistic motivation stems from the territorial waters The Chinese are famous for buiding artificial islands for much the same reasons.

How long until she meets her murdered husband's fate?

Navalny’s Widow Pledges to Carry On Opposition Leader’s Work

The widow of Aleksei A. Navalny said on Monday that she would carry on her husband’s work to bring about a democratic and free Russia, presenting herself for the first time as a political force and calling on his followers to rally alongside her.

Mr. Navalny’s sudden death in prison, which was announced by the Russian authorities on Friday, left a vacuum in Russia’s opposition. His supporters had wondered whether his wife, Yulia Navalnaya — who long shunned the spotlight — might step in to fill the void.

In a video released on Monday, Ms. Navalnaya, 47, signaled that she would. She said she was appearing on her late husband’s YouTube channel for the first time to tell his followers that the most important thing that they could do to honor his legacy was “to fight more desperately and furiously than before.”

Allegedly:

Minister of Digital Transformation Fedorov says there is a way to disable Starlink terminals used by Russia on the frontlines. [My u.]

Mykhailo Fedorov, in an interview with Suspilne, discussed his communication with Elon Musk about the use of Starlink by Russian occupation forces on the frontlines.

Fedorov states that they have found a solution similar to the strategy used in Israel during the Gaza conflict.

While SpaceX has the ability to disable Starlink in occupied territories, doing so would also have a negative impact on Ukraine's own use of the system.

I guess they are not using a whitelist. They should be.

Unbelievable - yet another Russian Su-34 and Su-35 eliminated. That's 6 total of these aircraft in the last 3 days.

The Russians started the war with about 149 Su-34 and 118 Su-35. At the end of January they had lost at least 25 Su-34 and 5 Su-35 in combat. There are almost certainly quite a few that are down for maintenance or are write offs for various reasons. In heavy operations it's normal for NATO air forces to have 1/3 of aircraft down for maintenance at any point in time after the initial few days of operations. Military aircraft require a lot of maintenance.

It appears Ukraine is using at least one Patriot battery in a way nobody envisioned. The Patriot is designed to be a static defense to protect cities from missiles. The batteries are built into trucks so they can shift around and be harder targets for an enemy to hit, but nobody planned for them to be mobile AD systems.

From what I read the Ukrainians have dedicated at least one Patriot system to mobile shoot and scoot AD work. They set up near the front lines, wait for some Russian aircraft to come within range, fire off some missiles and get out of there. They are basically taking sniper shots at Russian aircraft.

During WW II Americans got a reputation for adapting equipment in the field to new and innovative uses. It happened in all theaters, but the most impressive work was done by Pappy Gunn in the 5th Air Force based in Brisbane, Australia. But everywhere Americans went, they adapted what was available to create new conveniences as well as new weapons.

The Ukrainians are putting the GIs of 80 years ago to shame. One retired US general pointed out over a year ago that NATO can't afford not to let Ukraine into NATO when this war is over. Ukraine is going to be the most experienced, best at adapting to conditions, and the largest army on the continent by the time this war is over. We will need to have them inside the tent rather than an independent army shunned by the west.

In other news, the longer 300km range ATACMS may be added to Ukraine's arsenal:

Once money is available. If the funding bill makes it to the floor of the House this year, it is going to take a while. The House is on a 2 week recess now, and when they get back a government shutdown will be looming and they haven't even started on the bill to deal with it. With the dysfunction in leadership there, the US government could be partially shut down for months. Foreign aid will be on the back burner if that happens.

I guess they are not using a whitelist. They should be.

That may be what they are doing.

Appears the US is taking some proactive action against the Russian threat of placing a nuclear weapon in space. Launched courtesy of SpaceX. Despite Elon’s words around Ukraine, his actions are still helping the Ukrainians.

“The US launched multiple satellites capable of detecting global missile launches, including two for the U.S. Missile Defense Agency (MDA) and four for the Space Development Agency (SDA).”

The Swedish government will announce a military aid package worth 7.1 billion Swedish kronor ($682 million), the country's largest contribution to date, the Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter (DN) reported on Feb. 19.

If someone wants to see what it looks like drone POV when UKR uses FPV-drones to attack the Russian Dictator's weapons of war inside of a ~medium sized warehouse...

Bulava of the Presidential Brigade potentially destroyed several russian tanks, S-60, Urals, a BMP and even a BMPT in a warehouse in Staromaiorske.

With regards to 'certain people' previously mentioned in this thread... The post on X linked below contains video with audio.

Charles Lindbergh speaking in 1940:

“I’ve been forced to the conclusion that we can’t win this war for England regardless of how much assistance we send”

If Lindberg would’ve been listened to, there would’ve been a Nazi Europe from Lisbon to Vladivostok

I raise you this /s

Seems like it's being addressed in that "Readers added context" community note present in the embedded tweet...

Besides... All it would have taken for Lindberg to be completely wrong at the time he said that in 1940, would have been for the Allied side to get the Soviet Union to enter into the war against the Axis powers. Could the Allied side have succeeded in persuading the Soviet Union to join them even if Hitler hadn't broken the non-aggression pact?... That we will never know.

EDIT:
But I'm going to wager a guess that the threat of the Nazis succeeding in developing an atomic weapon before the Allies would have been a 'rather persuasive' motivator...

Denys (as well as this article from the BBC) said that there is no positive identification yet, and posits that this could be a Ukrainian disinformation project.

Russian pilot Maxim Kuzminov who defected to Ukraine 'shot dead' in Spain

The body of a man who was shot dead in Spain is believed to be that of a Russian helicopter pilot who defected to Ukraine last year.

In August, Maxim Kuzminov flew a helicopter into Ukrainian territory, where he handed himself in.

Spanish police have not publicly confirmed the identity of the man, who was killed near Alicante last week.

However, Ukrainian intelligence confirmed Mr Kuzminov's death on Monday.
