Wheel alignment cost at SC

Does anyone know where Tesla Guildford take their cars to be aligned?

I’ll double check our paperwork later but I think it may even be on site. Certainly no evidence of our car moving more than 1/4 mile away from site whilst it was in for a couple of afternoon jobs incl. front lower suspension arms which I guess triggered the 4 wheel alignment.

Not sure what the site was before Tesla.

Ah okay, thanks. I think they quoted £227 or £272 (can’t remember) for alignment. Both numbers are outrageous.

Ours was under warranty but we did get a cost breakdown- iirc it was some multiple of their hourly cost so likely to be quite different to a garage using a different charging structure.

I recall at the time being thankful we didn’t have to pay for it. It wasn’t a thing that I thought needed to be done as part of front lower suspension replacement. I don’t think ours was out by much if I interpreted the sheet correctly.

I haven't heard of centres taking the cars off site for alignments, so just because one might doesn't mean the others do.
Not that I'd use a Tesla SC for an alignment anyway, because there are better options.

@thewanted For Guildford, the place I've used who are very experienced and know Teslas well is HAS - Harding Autos – Servicing | MOT's and More
@garycat For Bristol/Cardiff, it's not next door, but you might want to try Harveys Autotech who are very well known locally for doing excellent geo work and they do quite a few Teslas.

Thanks for the recommendation. I spoke with Harding Autos recently and their minimum charge is £234 inc. if it only takes 1 hour. Any longer than that, and it's another £120+VAT/hour. Sounds like a lot to me.

Ok fair enough. They are very meticulous and do a very careful job so the price obvously reflects that! I'd still use them over Guildford SC if the proce was the same though.

For the record, I checked with my contact in Tesla and certainly Bristol, Cardiff, Guildford and Chelmsford all have their own alignment ramps so if they do ever farm out an alignment it will be because of some circumstance such as the ramp being out of action or over-booked.

But, my advice is still to try and find an independant who charges fairly and is prepared to work on Teslas and if they do a good job, please come back here and let us know because this question comes up all the time.

Our warranty cost, ie no charge, would have been 1.92 hours at £165/hr

I’m guessing that included a T break or two, or doubled up on manpower especially since with that and other work undertaken, they charged for more hours than car was on site…

The takeaway here is that Tesla are not alignment specialists. Neither are BMW, Porsche, Mercedes and the rest. Same as tyre fitting. They charge more than a good indy tyre place because they don't specialise in tyres. You pay the same hourly rate for all work at any dealer so if you don't want to pay that for tyres or geo take it elsewhere.
