A lot of Middle Eastern countries took in Palestinian refugees from the early wars and those refugees are still there. Some families have been living in refugee camps for decades. They don't want to take in any more refugees because of this.

Further up in this thread I posted a map of the original British Palestine Mandate. This territory was carved out of the Ottoman Empire. Prior to the creation of the modern day State of Israel, there never was a country of Palestiine.

The term Palestine supposedly is derived from Philistia, the name given by the Greeks to the kingdom of the Philistines, who occupied a small area of land in the 12th century BC on the southern Mediterranean coast..The Romans also referred to area is "Syria Palestinia". The term has stuck and refers to indigenous Muslim inhabitants of that region.
