  • Question
Can I share a charger and have my neighbor bill me?

Can I share my neighbor's charger and have my neighbor bill me? We live in a condo building, and the cost of installing a wall charger would be prohibitive. I want to propose to the chap in the next parking space--who has his own charger--that we share his. He could add a markup to the hourly bill and hence recover some of his own costs. But for this to work there would need to be a seamless, hassle-free way to meter the electricity I use, and pay him for it eg with PayPal or Venmo.
Is there an app capable of doing this?

Model X Rental in Canada

Is there any tesla-specific rental service in Canada?

I'm currently renting a 2022 MSLR at $2500/mo (including HST is $2825) from a company in Toronto, but period is reacing to the end next week and they don't have MX.

I want to rent a refreshed model X, but it's really hard to find a nice company in Canada.

Would you share your experience if you have similar one in Canada?

Gen 3 Wall Connector No Light

Hi everyone,

I am having a reoccurring issue and need some thoughts. I got my Gen 3 wall connector installed by an electrician and after about 2 days of using the charger, the charger would not light up. I assumed it was a power supply issue so my electrician came back and swore that the wiring, energy management system and breaker was all set up correctly. The unit still would not light up.

I called Tesla and got a new unit sent to me. The same issue happened about a month later where the unit would not light up. I flipped the breaker and the unit surprisingly light back up and it worked fine for about 2 months. I also commissioned the unit and updated the firmware. I also lowered the amount of amps that the car was pulling from the house from 48A to 46A. The wall connector worked fine for about 2 months.

Last night I installed a software update on my Model Y and noticed that the wall connector lost its light again. I once again cannot connect to the units wifi to update the firmware. I tried resetting the unit by flipping the breaker but still nothing. The unit still will not light up.

At this point I have no idea what to do or what may be the root of this issue. Faulty wiring ? bad breaker? defective unit ?

If anyone has any solutions or ideas please let me know.

  • Question
Garage to small to reach charging port

Hey!

I test drove a Model 3 yesterday and loved it. We drove it home to put in the garage as part of the test because we weren't sure it would fit. It does. Just.

However, I had a sudden realisation today that we will have trouble plugging the thing in. Our garage is also the entrance to our house (there's a separate gate beside the garage door and path up the side) and the car is tight to the front back and one side. This means we need to reverse in so that we can actually get out the driver's door but that puts the charging port against the other wall (I'm in the UK so it's a RHD)

Now, of course, I have no car to test with so I was wondering if anyone had experience with solving this problem.
The questions I have are:
  • If I drive it in front first, this would mean clambering over to the passenger side to get out. How difficult is that?
  • If I reversed it in, would it possible to reach the port and plug it in from the rear window if I hand the cable somewhere within reach?
  • I know the car isn't supposed to move when plugged in but is there a way to override this so I could leave space to walk round the back, plug it in and then reverse it the last couple feet?
  • Any other suggestions?
Thanks!

  • Question
How do we know what HW version is in our 2023 Model Y and why doesn't it explicitly say it has EAP, which we bought?

We have a new 2023 Model Y built in 09/23 in Fremont. As we're looking at the software stack, currently 2023.27.7, and the commentary here we often see people refer to the computer in the vehicle as HW3, HW4, etc. Our car doesn't say anything about that. Instead, it just says "Autopilot computer: Full self-driving Computer." So, do we have HW3 or HW4? We definitely don't have radar, so at least that's understood.

Also on the software page in our car it says we have FSD capability which expires on Jan 13, 2024. It says nothing about EAP, which is what we bought. So, we're confused about why our car seems to be on what is referred to as the early release branch for FSD (2023.27.7 / 11.4.7.3) vs. what folks refer to as the main branch, with a higher 2023.x.y number than we have. We neither bought nor intend to buy FSD, but we did buy EAP for lane changes and navigate from entrance to exit. We would like to have gotten summon, autopark, etc., but found out after the sale that those features are dead...at least for now. (sigh). So what changes when our FSD access expires on 1/14/2024? Do we switch over to EAP, or does something else happen?

Thanks in advance for any insights folks here can share with us. :)

Used model y new owner stuck in valet mode.

Hope, someone can guide me. I bought it from third party dealer 2 days ago. I was playing around with settings and pressed a valet mode. It entered but needs a pin to get out. spoke with dealer who sold and they have no clue. Previous doesn’t know either. Tesla app is not setup in the phone. Can’t get the wifi access to the vehicle to reset. what are my options?
Thanks.

Android bluetooth stopped connecting in car - was working

I have been using my phone which connects when I enter the car for years.

Today when entered car it would not connect in car. Rebooted car (two buttons) rebooted phone. Nothing. Phone appears but when I hit connect it times out Tesla is not shown as a connection on my phone bluetooth (I had to reset it and lost all my connections but have reset up all my earbuds without issue)

Old phone I had paired but not used for 3 years works - recognized by car and automatically pairs.

I've tried to pair to the M3 from bluetooth on my phone but the Tesla never appears when I hit "connect" It says connecting on Tesla screen then says connection failed.
I have paired other bluetooth items to my phone todays without issue (headset).

  • Question
Is this rusted piece dangerous or replaceable?

I'm sure this is a stupid question to car guys but this is the first car I've owned since my early 20s (just getting my life together) and this piece in the middle is super rusted. Should I change it? Is that even possible? Also I'd like to rotate my own tires, when tightening lug nuts how do I know if it's 129lb ft torque.?

  • Question
Can a Wall Connector be hooked into an old style “fuse” box?

Hello all, new Model 3 owner here. To preface, I already have a mobile connector that works on a existing 220v outlet but I drive a lot of miles for work, having a wall connector for 48 amp charging would be great. My garage is separate from my house and has a really old fuse box rather than a breaker box like my house has. I was wondering if it’s still possible to connect a wall connector to it? Attached is a photo of it. Thanks!

Slower Acceleration and weird behaviour 2020 Model 3 SR+

Question for 2019/2020 Model 3 SR+ Owners

I have a 2020 (Purchased Dec 2019) with about 118,000kms (74,000mi) on the odometer. I’ve noticed the acceleration reduce quite a bit in comparison to my early 2021 build. Only differences are Michelin Radial X tires (80% tred) on the 2020 and mileage. Car doesn’t throw me into the seat or as responsive as the 2021. I also recently sat in a 2019 SR+ loaner which felt a lot zippier (60,000mi) and identical to my 2021.

Another thing to note, when backed onto my driveway with an incline, when putting the car into drive it lunges forward then the brakes grab a hold of the car, maybe about 1/5 rotation of the wheels.

Acceleration: Standard
Brakes: Hold
Obstacle Aware: Off

I have reset all tire configuration in the service menu and regular tire settings but no change in behaviour.

Anybody with similar experiences? Would the tires be detected by the computer and limit power? My old worn set also felt the same. Notably I don’t see the traction light come on nor do the wheels spin under hard acceleration from standstill, just lower power than usual.

I’d like to avoid the inspection fees Tesla wants to charge me to take a look as the basic warranty has expired. I have a service appointment booked but just want to know if this behaviour is normal for how much mileage this car has. Thanks

  • Question
Wrong country

I live in the US virtually on the border with Canada. When I try to schedule service with the app all the service locations are in Canada. Those locations have told me that I need to have service in the US (particularly roadside service, but also routine service). Is there any way to restrict the service centers that the app provides to US sites only? My country is properly set in my profile.

  • Question
Can anyone help me with these 2 problems please ?

I just got a 2018 model3 (I'm sure the newer ones work better) When I get text messages on my Tesla the new ones don't show up but instead I get old messages from years ago from ppl I'm not even texting with. Is there a way to reset or fix texting? Also my navigate on autopilot hasn't taken an exit or gotten on an on ramp once. It's basically just autopilot. Is there something I need to do? I thought as long as it's turned on it should work by just using the navigation.
