Tire replacement for 2021 Model S Long Range Plus

I just had the bad luck of having two of my original tires develop slow leaks. I have 22k miles on these 19" tires. I plan to replace the tires (I don't trust "tire repair").
Question 1: is it better to get new tires from Tesla, or to go to a local tire dealer?
Question 2: I assume Tesla offers one option, but the tire dealer has many. So, any recommendations?
Thanks for any thoughts/insight!

How to add Powerwalls without touching existing PPA solar system

Greetings Braintrust!

Longtime Tesla driver/investor, first time caller.

We want to add a Powerwall or two to our home in California to keep our sump pumps and home office alive during outages.

We are 8 years into a 20 year PPA (prepaid power agreement) with Spruce Power. It's been a good deal so far, but now that we want to upgrade (add a battery), as owners of the system, they claim sole domain over any upgrades and their prices are sky high -- pretty much double.

For the price of one of theirs, I could add a couple Powerwalls as stand-alone batteries, charging directly from the grid.

My question is this: Can we add Powerwalls to the system without stepping on Spruce's domain? Perhaps by adding a second gateway with its own isolated connection to the main breaker (or a smart breaker like SPAN).

Any insights would be welcome!

Got hit and run, have the guy's plate and a witness. Should I call Tesla insurance or just eat it? (California)

Been reading a lot of conflicting info. I got hit and run while parked, fortunately a witness saw everything and took a picture of the guy's license plate. No picture of the driver but witness remembers description. I filed a police report but police seem uninterested in such an undramatic incident. This is in California.

Repair estimate is $1500. I have Tesla insurance, deductibles are $1000.

Should I contact insurance? Should I file a claim? Can they get the other guy to pay better than the police can?

Appreciate any help. Seems crazy how easy it is to get away with a hit and run, if I have to foot the whole bill.

Aside: I had Sentry on but no dashcam clip was saved. The witness told me more than an hour after the fact, so I could not recover a Sentry recording. If anyone knows a way to possibly recover the recording, I'd really appreciate it.

  • Question
Is my model 3 a performance?

Hello, first post here. Anyways, I just picked up a 2019 model 3 with 100k miles off Facebook marketplace in Chicago. I was told it was the “stealth performance”. They said that it has the performance motors and speed, but just not the badging and cosmetics. That’s what the service department at Tesla told them anyways.

I’ve been in a lot of sports cars and can tell what kind of 0-60 time a car is getting when driving it. This model 3 definitely was not getting near the 3.1 0-60 mark the performance model is claimed to achieve. When looking in the app there is an upgrade option “acceleration boost” you can buy for $2000. And it says it will make 0-60 time from 4.2 to 3.7 seconds.

So my question now is, is my car actually the performance model or not? Even if I bought this upgrade, I would be getting a claimed 3.7 seconds instead of the 3.1 seconds the performance model is rated at.

I’m already looking at selling the car to get an actual performance model. But want to know what it is for sure so I don’t screw the next buyer.

SoCal Edison "TOU-D-PRIME" Super Off Peak - How to take advantage of the lower rates?

Southern California Edison customers who have signed up for Time of Use -D- PRIME rates can take advantage of Super Off-Peak rates October 1 thru May 31 from 8:00am to 4:00pm. Those with EV's may want to look into signing up for TOU-D-Prime.

My car is often gone during the day returning home at 1:30pm or later. Is there a way to tell my car to stop charging at 3:59pm to avoid the higher rates?

Currently, I have to manually stop charging at 3:59 or sooner.

Supercharging Eligible 2013 Model S

I recently brought a 2013 Tesla Model S with only about 80K miles, one owner from a non tesla dealership. When I brought the car I saw the message that said to add payment to use supercharging. Did that and when I went to supercharge, it would not work. I call tesla and they said I have to pay 2K for the supercharge upgrade, even though my specs&warranty page on the app states I already gave supercharging. Any advice? Has anyone else dealt with this?

Charging complete at 36miles. Not getting full range.

image.jpg

While the car was being driven at around 20mins left at range on the way home and a warning came up for reduced power and the vehicle may not restart. Driver pulls over and of course car doesn’t not restart. Had to pull out the 12V battery to bring home to charge due to the charging port not being able to latch because the 12v was low on charge as well. Put back in the 12v battery and plugged the car up the a generator to get enough charge to load it onto a trailer. Generator produces 110. Put the car to charge when it got home (220v) and at first only charged to around 20 miles and tried again and got it to charge to 36 miles of range. Anyone know what the issue may be? or how I can reset the BMS? Also put the car into service mode and these codes came up.

Santa mode icon remaining after turning off

Hello community,
have just picked up a new model 3, and have been playing with the features. After turning on the Santa mode, the little model 3 turned to a sleigh, however when turning it off again, the sleigh still remains and wont go back to the default model 3. Is there a way to fix this!?

I should note it appears only on the tyre pressure area, on the main display, the model 3 is there.

many thanks !

How to slice plug and wand from two different generations? model s charging

image.jpg

IMG_3014.jpeg

Does anyone know if I can splice these two together? I believe they are from two generations. One wire is for the plug and the other is for the wand. I need to know what each color is for and which ones go to what wires from the plug to the wand. There are also 2 extra wires on the plug so not sure if they group up in twos to connect to the two smaller wires from the plug. Can’t find a wiring diagram anywhere.

Track Package installation process.

Did anyone with the Track pack notice how many miles the shop put on after installation? Shop told me 6 hrs . Its been in for 6 days and I just noticed on Tessie that they took three drives totaling 50 miles with an hour and 1:15 in time. I get taking it for a spin to make sure the brakes are working ok but 50 Miles? Suspecting joy rides. Does anyone have the factory instructions?

  • Question
trade in process

Appreciate if anyone can share their experience regarding trade in ... My assumption is that on the day of delivery, you will drive the car to be traded in to the dealer.

Do dealers go through "inspection" of the car ? What do they really check ?

The car has some transmission "shrudder" issue. Just wonder if dealers will "reject" the trade in.

Advice on when to sell and why on use ie carvana ?

Hi. Looking for advice on when to sell my 2023 performance 3.

I am hating it. I can’t get used to the constant charging, negotiating my next my next moves contingent on when and where I can charge, and the pressure of that. I just spent 18$ for 44w at a supercharger on Long Island. I can charge at home using high gauge extension cord hooked up to dryer outlet. That’s a pain in the ass but I am reluctant to put in a wall charger.

I am also dealing with the rims that have a dent for the second time. Driven on. Penal roads. No pot holes.

I put 10k down. Rest is financed. Any advice on when I should try to sell. The car will have high mileage. I drive a lot. Thanks in advance.

2023 Model 3LR NO tow hitch cutout ?!

Hi everyone, first time posting on TMC, I just took delivery of my 2023 model 3 LR and ordered a tow hitch to use for trailering and my bike rack.
I saw multiple videos on how to install the tow hitch, only problem is that my 2023 doesn't have the OEM cutout for the hitch receiver!!
What should I do? Should I just cut a rectangular hole myself directly into the underbody rear panel to let my hitch receiver fit through it?? Did anyone encounter this issue? Thanks in advance.

VCSEC_a222 tire pressure monitoring system fault

So I’ve had my model 3 LR for about three months and my back left tire just gave me a VCSEC_a222 tire pressure monitoring system fault code poped up. I checked the tire and doesn’t seem like there’s a nail or something in it and checked the pressure and it’s at 38 via my physical pressure checker, all other tires are 40-41. The car shows 40 about a week ago on my back left tire. I’m going to drive it tonight because it does say it can go away but wondering if this is just a service center thing or is there a way to fix it myself?

Connecting a temporary phone in my Model S

If someone is in my car and they want to play music from their phone, is there an easy way they can connect outside of bluetooth? I have done it before when they are connected to the charging USB port but can't remember how I did it. I thouhgt I just select the phone icon and I will see the connected phone. My daugher was in my Model S and did connect to the power cord but when I selected the phone icon, it gave me the options for my phone.

MYP 2023, trunk only opens from app or screen

Hi, we got a MYP and Im not sure what I’m doing wrong but I cannot open the trunk from the trunk button outside. I can only open it by touching the screen or using the app on the phone. I checked the Locks menu and there is nothing I can see that would solve it. Even at home, parked in the garage with the car unlocked the trunk doesn’t open from the outside.
‘does any have some suggestions?
thanks

2017 MS 100D

I recently bought a 17MS 100D for 40k it has 55k miles in thinking of selling it and going back to ICE because I can’t afford a new Tesla

I just don’t see the battery lasting for 84 months does anyone have any experience to show otherwise because from the data I’m seeing the car won’t last

For now I see these cars as something you stay away from used because the long term reliability just isn’t there but they are perfect if you buy new because at least you know you will pay it off before any type of battery failure.

There’s really no protection for these cars batteries after they go out of warranty all the products I’ve looked at will only cover up to 6k or not cover me by the time I can afford to buy thier products
