Adding a Tesla Gen3 Wall Connector as a product in the Tesla App. Why is it

NFC = Near field communication. It's basically an RFID chip - in credit cards, public transport tap and go cards, phones. Your Tesla keycard has one You likely have used it by tapping credit card or phone at checkout. Or using similar tap and pay on public transport.

    Evie EV charging networks

I dont know either, but to your point, I can see it bothering some people.... People only complain when price rise, not when prices fall - cue the gnashing of teeth when DinoJuice prices suddenly rise, but never a criticism when prices drop. However, I dont care abut pre-auth I don't care about...
  3. Q

Adding a Tesla Gen3 Wall Connector as a product in the Tesla App. Why is it

The phone communicates with car via several concurrent methods: 1) Bluetooth for unlocking car (via a subset of bluetooth called bluetooth low energy) and a few other functions. 2) Ultrawideband - a higher databandwidth version of bluetooth if you like for some bluetooth functions 3) mobile data...

Adding a Tesla Gen3 Wall Connector as a product in the Tesla App. Why is it

No, SSId = Service Set identifier. In other words your Wifi network name. No sure what "hiccup" you are referring to.

    Evie EV charging networks

My local metro petroleum has a "happy hour" period where the price of Dinojuiceᵀᴹ is discounted by 5c/L Had one guy argue with the bloke behind the counter when he completed his fill up just prior to happyhour. He was not happy that as he went to pay, the displayed price went down. I was happy...
  6. Q

    Evie EV charging networks

No, you still have to link the EVID RFID to your EVIE account inside the app. They send out random cards but get you to do the work of associating the card to account - which is actually more secure if you think about it.
  7. Q

    Evie EV charging networks

yes, or the tesla app. However I don't know what method is better to stop a charging session. Im inclined to stop if via the Evie side rather than the Tesla side. Ive found that when I'm Jolting and i stop the charging using the Tesla app, that sometimes this causes an "error" on the Jolt side.
  8. Q

    Evie EV charging networks

I just use the Evie card. No preauths . But yes there are anecdotal reports of difficulties of initiating charge sessions leading to frustration which is then compounded by >1 preauth. People still incorrectly think preauth causes money to be actually deducted from their CC accounts.
  9. Q

Adding a Tesla Gen3 Wall Connector as a product in the Tesla App. Why is it

You dont connect the Gen3 WC to the phone. The commissioning process does 2 things: 1) you log in via your phone to the wifi access point of the WC to adjust the settings as per the commissioning process. 2) You then tell the WC what building wifi SSID to use to communicate with the Tesla App...
  10. Q

    Evie EV charging networks

Of course, but the point is that but for issues with initiating a charge, a session would have been cheaper and multiple pre-auths might also have occured
  11. Q

    Evie EV charging networks

Thats my point. The driver might have arrived in time for a charge at the cheaper rate, but shenanigans and difficulties with commencing a charge pushes the charging session to start at the higher pricer period.
  12. Q

    Evie EV charging networks

Would be a real bummer if the driver arrives at an Evie charger hoping to charge and problems with initiating a charge causing several pre-auths + by the time the charging actually works, the clock ticks over into a more expensive period
  13. Q

    Evie EV charging networks

Hornsby Evie Variable pricing: 1700-0900 0.53c 0900-1700 0.64c 1600-2000 is the period with highest electricity spot pricing I wonder if Evie is saying the charger demand is higher between 0900-1700? Some would say this is just a way to increase prices without saying so.
  14. Q

Ausgrid changing pricing for electricity grid access

Here is the rub . It's been shown that battery longevity deteriorates rapidly when depth of discharge is > 25% at least in the NMC type batteries. A battery should be appropriately sized. I'm not sure that 80% depth of discharge everyday is appropriately sizing the battery. In the case of house...

LFP battery - how often is too often to charge?

That might be so under a zero load situation. However when the battery is under load it might not be able to deliver the residual kWh because when you press on the accelerator the motor demands a certain amount of current and cause the battery voltage of some cells to drop below cutoff. A...
  18. Q

Ausgrid changing pricing for electricity grid access

Disagree. The other way round. It's not the charge or discharge currents. PW2 power rating is 5kW. Car batteries can be charged at up to 250kW but they are maybe circa only 5 times larger . The main reason I think is that House batteries are discharged to a greater depth of discharge than car...

LFP battery - how often is too often to charge?

Are you sure Tesla says "as much as possible". Have you checked the Owners manual which can be accessed via the Tesla App for the actual instructions?
  20. Q

Ausgrid changing pricing for electricity grid access

Only works if the customer is generally a low kWh exporter/importer I told them I export about 25,000kwh /year and they immediately said they can't As my system is more or less fully amortised, It matters little to me if I disconnect one or more panels. Batteries are nearly there...The BYD...

    Superchargers in Australia

The behind the scenes retention of some Supercharging team is consistent with RocketMan's subsequent statement So it was a tactical Nuke and not "MAD". The truth about what happened will eventually come out. It is becoming a little clearer and I suspect that Rocketman thought the SC team was...

    Superchargers in Australia

Toombul did have Superchargers and ChargeFox DCFC at those shops. However you will recall that in Feb 2022 there were floods that inundated the area. As a result, Mirvac, the owners of the site terminated all the leases to the shops. It is now vacant. What Mirvac hopes to do is unclear and...

    Superchargers in Australia

The "right" and "wrong" way is very subjective. Agree. RocketMan is a seriously flawed character. Im not sure though if there is ever a "best" CEO. Many CEO do the D&R thing but run their companies into the ground because they are unable to be ruthless. Maybe thats why the companies he runs are...

Yes, his biography informs the reader about some of the stuff that is swirling in his brain at any point in time. I don't care about Mars either and have no interest going there. If Rocketman wants to think crazy stuff, it's not for me to say he can't because the crazy stuff like Electric cars...

    Superchargers in Australia

Not correct to suggest they are. Even if fungible,it matters little because the electrons coming out of the CCS2 plug are only partly renewable ( unless at the edge cases stated above) That 100% renewable will eventually occur - like FSD (unsupervised) but until then I'm not going to delude...

    Australian Model Y Waiting Room

I checked mine - it's also got the GB assignment but the car is in my garage in Sydney and was built in GigaShanghai and shipped to AU. I think the GB "assignment" is irrelevant for the purposes here

    Australian Model Y Waiting Room

Maybe try this one. Again destination is not a VIN characteristic.
  42. Q

    Australian Model Y Waiting Room

That does not make sense as "destination" is not part of any VIN number You might be referring to "location of manufacture"? Which would be the 11th character? Try this VIN decoder

    Superchargers in Australia

Yes and it's still a major contributor And the other 60%?. There are only certain places on certain days where one can guarantee supercharging is 100% renewable - mainly at 12 midday in South Australia or in the case of Tasmania most of the time. (Or with household solar).

Bugger. They didn't for mine. Then they did for a while. @TheRug80 There are places where you can pay $$ and they apparently will find out for you. Superchargers in Australia

As Tesla is a public company there are a lot of shareholder groups pushing and pulling in often mutually exclusive direction based on their own intepretation of how to achieve the mission.
